The 2023 RAM 3500 Regular Cab will get the same and massive 6.4-liter Hemi V8 that is quite the performer. In stock form, the motor pushes out a beefy 410 horsepower along with 429 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed ZF 8HP75-LCV automatic transmission which it received during the 2019 update. Both the motor and the transmission work in unison to deliver a strong performance both in the cities and out on the highways. Even though the truck takes a leisurely 8.4 seconds to hit 60 mph from a standstill, it shouldn’t bother you much since the powertrain can also tow as much as 24,100 lbs. Moreover, the truck has an impressive payload capacity of 4,280 lbs and the driveability remains mostly intact even under a full load.

The Ford F-350 SuperDuty is a decent performer in the class. It gets a slightly smaller 6.2-liter V8 and makes less power than the RAM 3500, but has a similar torque output though. In the towing and hauling department, it is just mediocre as compared to the RAM 3500, with a towing capacity of just 15,000 lbs along with a maximum payload capacity of 3,550 lbs. The GMC Sierra 3500HD is a solid performer against the rivals here and fares much better than the F-350. It gets a bigger 6.6-liter gasoline V8 under its hood and has a muscular torque output of 464 lb-ft. However, it makes a little less power than the RAM 3500 at 401 hp. While its towing and hauling capacities are at 20,000 lbs and 4,316 lbs, the former is lesser than what the RAM 3500 delivers. The Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is the mechanical twin of the Sierra here, hence has identical power output figures along with both towing and payload capacities as well.
2023 RAM 3500 Regular Cab Ride and Handling
Big and burly pickup trucks always had a dark side where they delivered poor driving dynamics along with jittery and bouncy ride quality. However, the impressive and cozy ride of the RAM 3500 along with its pleasing driving dynamics are the two most important reasons for its immense popularity. While driving potholes, uneven surfaces, and minor speed breakers are easily gobbled up by the suspension, keeping the truck settled. The ride further improves significantly once the truck is loaded. When equipped with the 4WD layout, the truck can tackle bad terrains easily, demonstrating the robustness of its suspension setup.
2023 RAM 3500 Regular Cab Braking Performance
The 2023 RAM 3500 is quite hefty at 6,056 courtesy of that mammoth motor and the robust chassis. To stop all that heft in time, the truck is equipped with a pair of 14.2-inch rotors at the front along with 14.1-inch rotors at the rear. With this hardware, the truck stops completely from 60 mph within 140 feet. The brakes do feel sure-footed while driving and respond quite well during harsh braking scenarios as well.

The Ford F-350 SuperDuty gets a set of 14.3-inch rotors at the front and a similar 14.3-inch setup at the rear as well. Despite that, the sheer 6,717 lbs of curb weight take some time to halt from 60 mph. As such, the F-350 requires a long 163-feet stopping distance. The GMC Sierra and the Chevrolet Silverado have identical curb weight and brake hardware here. Both trucks have similar braking performance but the stopping distances aren’t known as of now. However, we expect them to perform on a similar level to the rivals it faces in the class.
