2014 Toyota RAV4 Buying Advice

The 2014 Toyota RAV4 can be an ideal choice for those looking for reliable performance and efficiency without much glamor.

2014 Toyota RAV4 for sale

Considering a low APR of 4.44% and a term of 60 months, the 2014 Toyota RAV4 LE can be financed for $416/month. The same model can also be leased for a term of 36 months with monthly payments of $339 and $2,355 as down payment.

Buying Advice

The 2014 Toyota RAV4 XLE trim would be our recommendation as it gets all the necessary features for one’s safety, long hauling practicality, and convenience. The performance is also at par with other trim levels. On the other hand, the base lacks many in the list, and the Limited is on the expensive side. So, most buyers would be happy with the mid-tier XLE trim.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2014 Toyota RAV4 scored 79/100 in the J.D. Power Consumer Rating and it can be considered as 'Average'. The overall score is based on four parameters, including the quality and reliability, driving experience, resale and dealership experience. The RAV4 2014 scored 82/100 for resale which can be considered as 'Great', pointing towards a higher resale value than some other cars in the segment. It will cost you approximately $50 to fill up your gas tank. The annual insurance cost is estimated to be $1,181.

Interior
8.0/10

The Toyota RAV4 interior 2014 is designed well but cannot beat some of its competition. The cabin features some hard to feel plastics and the climate control buttons feel fragile. The front seats are comfortable but the same cannot be said about the rear seats. Toyota offers Entune Audio with 6.1-inch touchscreen. The XLE trim features Entune Audio Plus with same-sized touchscreen. The Limited trim adds Entune Premium Audio with Navigation and App Suite. The infotainment system is fluid but some lags and jitters can be experienced randomly. More about the 2014 Toyota RAV4 cargo space can be known in our cargo capacity review here.

Exterior
7.0/10

The Toyota RAV4 is a fairly sober-looking SUV with a focus on practicality rather than aesthetics. The front has been adorned with a chrome-accented grille along with sharp and sleek projector-beam halogen headlamps. The bumper has been kept relatively higher both in the front and rear. A rear color-keyed spoiler enhances the rear profile and is useful for aerodynamics as well. The side view flaunts 17-inch steel wheels in the LE trim that are converted to alloy wheels in the XLE trim. The Limited trim flaunts 18-inch alloy wheels. Learn more about the 2014 Toyota RAV4 exterior dimensions in our dimensions review here.

Safety
7.0/10

The Toyota RAV4 offers safety assurance with its standard STAR Safety System of Driveline Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control along with a 4-wheel ABS which can counter unfavorable conditions while speeding on the rain-soaked tracks. The galvanized steel panels and side beams also negate the impact forces. An NHTSA Rating of overall 4 stars might be complacent but the driver's compartment needs to have a little more reinforcement.

Some of the 2014 Toyota RAV4 safety features are:

  • Tire Pressure Monitor System
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Brake Assist
  • Electronic Brake Force Distribution
  • Auto high beam

Final Verdict

The 2014 Toyota RAV4 can be best termed as the 'Jack of All Trades but Master of None'. Toyota's compact crossover has a decent combination of practicality, fuel economy and interior comfort. However, it does not surpass in any one of them as compared to its rivals. However, there are more pros than cons and we won't mind recommending one to you if it fits your requirements.
