Overview

In the dawn of the fuel crisis, many have been forced to drive themselves on a road that is less traveled. The complete switch to electric mobility might be a far-fetched vision but coupling it with the existing technology would be a much more viable option to end with a middle ground for the time being.

Buying Advice

Since the gap of offering is not significant in terms of basic amenities. A parallel performance along with the same comfort and ease for daily commuting and long hauling in the HB trim makes it a more valuable choice. It is obvious that the higher is more packed but the younger one is well-packed. It is also true that it lacks the Head-up display and some other flashy features but on the whole, the interior accent and appeal of the HB make no difference owning the Prius Hybrid.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Toyota Prius Hybrid is simply one of the responses to such shifting dynamics. It has been a cornerstone in the segment for its supreme practicality and value return as per the money invested in it. This machinery is available in two trims and seeks to compete against the assets of the Honda Insight, Chevrolet Volt, and Toyota Prius C.

Features
9.0/10

There are two trims that are available for the 2014 Toyota Prius Hybrid namely the HB and HB Advanced. The HB trim gets EPAS which has been replicated in the elder sibling as well. But the price tag seems to increase with the heat-assist tech ends which engulfs the power adjustment as an extra for the seats in the HB Advanced trim. Not just that, the higher trim even gets a Head-Up Display which tracks all the necessary parameters. One important touch that is basic in the Prius Hybrid is the Entune with a 6.1” Display Unit as it is highly interactive while abusing.

The list goes on to introduce you to the Synthetic Leather SofTex’s asset and Automatic Air Conditioning for your ease and comfort within the cabin. The SiriusXM satellite radio has enough reached to bring in the engagement of yours along with the 6-speaker audio unit having high bass. The 15" x 6J 10-Spoke Aluminum Alloy Wheels have a Regenerative Braking Unit attached to them which helps in trickle charging while hard braking.

Fuel Economy
9.9/10

There has been a lot of charm tagged to the Prius name and fuel economy is one of those. A whopping mileage of 49 mpg in the city, 51 mpg on the highway, and 50 mpg on a daily basis is simply of the segment-leading cader. And that too when coupled with the 10.6 gallons of the fuel tank, the range shoots up to 540 miles. This is by far the most one can achieve with a significant gap against the rivals. These numbers can even exceed when the only electric drive is also engaged.

Well, the Toyota sibling Prius C is quite a competitor to the Prius Hybrid but even it has to struggle in the matter of range. Others like Insight and Volt are far behind the aforementioned. The range ceases to have a relative difference of at least 100 miles. It becomes impressive as the Toyota Prius Hybrid achieves this with a comparatively bigger engine capacity. Hence, it is way more practical than others to own.

Interior
8.0/10

Well, expecting too much from a 5-door hatchback would be immaterial on one’s end. Yet it has been given some decent touches which may turn around the scenario for you if that matches your status quo. Starting with the power-heated and electric-actuated seats which are wrapped with the Synthetic Leather Softex in the HB Advanced, the narrative does mention the leather upholstery on the steering wheel and door inserts for the same. On the other hand, the HB goes on to replicate a few of the comforts like the automatic air conditioning and under-seat ventilation but the following does lack the touch of leatherette for many units which the HB Advanced does not.

After the description, comes the climax where it becomes much clearer what the plot is all about. The spaciousness inside the Toyota Prius Hybrid along with cargo capacity is just fascinating. It allows you to take in 5 but the 5th being a child would be a preferred one. Other rivals are also somewhat close to the standard figures except for the Volt as it is easy to spot with naked eyes that squeezed spacing. Thus, the Prius Hybrid comes out with flying colors in this domain. Some of the features are:

  • Power-heated and electric-actuated seats
  • Synthetic Leather Softex
  • Automatic Air Conditioning
  • Leather upholstery on steering wheel and inserts

How intuitive is the 2014 Toyota Prius Hybrid’s infotainment unit?

The 2014 Toyota Prius Hybrid gets a series of technology packs that is sufficient for your craving irrespective of the trims. The Entune with 6.1” Display Unit along with SiriusXM satellite radio is among those which take on your vision in the first place when entering the cabin of HB.

This gets bigger with HB Advanced to 7”. Further adding to the same Darwin Evolution, the 6-speaker audio unit becomes premium with the 8 JBL GreenEdge speakers. One also has the privilege to try out the Bluetooth Wireless Phone Connectivity and HDD navigation which has been integrated into it. Some of the features are:

  • Bluetooth Wireless Phone Connectivity
  • HDD navigation
  • 6.1” Display Unit
  •  8 JBL GreenEdge speakers
  • SiriusXM satellite radio

Exterior
6.0/10

The Prius Hybrid is a simple and sober-looking hatchback. The hatchback is adorned with the black grille on the fascia with backward converging headlamps which give it aggressive imagery but not to any superlative extent. The whole chassis rests on the 15" x 6J 10-Spoke Aluminum Alloy Wheels which do not seem to serve any trim purpose in terms of exterior appeal. The rear is generally underappreciated in a hatchback but the Prius deviated from the normalcy as it has a lip spoiler along with stainless steel- finish exhaust to give it a little bit of sportiness.

Despite being one of the heaviest and lengthiest cars among all, the Prius Hybrid is still within the extremities. This allows it to give comfort inside without any compromise with the handling dynamics and control stability. The truly compact one is the Prius C and it also tends to be the lightest one as well. Both of these factors together make it fundamentally stable and give one the confidence to go a bit reckless around the corners. The Volt and Insight are smaller in number than the Prius Hybrid but are on the same level as that of the latter. Some of the features are:

  • 15" x 6J 10-Spoke Aluminum Alloy Wheels
  • Black Grille
  • Auto-Off Projector Beam Halogen Headlamps
  • Lip Spoiler

Safety
8.0/10

The 2014 Toyota Hybrid Prius is one of the best and most real-time tested hybrids which grabs the “Top Safety Pick+” award by IIHS for scoring a Good rating across all domains. On top of that, it has a 4-star rating for its rollover worthiness in the NHTSA.

To our dismay, the Prius Hybrid has not yet been tested in other parameters to date for the same. Apart from these ratings, one gets Electronic Stability Control and Safety Connect Emergency Sos to fill in the void of active aids. Moreover, it has optional advanced features which include the Additional Safety Package and Pre-Collision System. Some of the features are:

  • Pre-Collision System
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Safety Connect Emergency Sos
  • Side Impact Beams

Final Verdict

The Toyota Prius Hybrid is simply the best among the rivals. There is hardly any segment where it has not left its impression. The embossing of its practicality and economic-friendliness are going to attract a huge customer base and it is worthy of the same as well. Thus, keep your eyes close and hit the pedal to drive you to this beautiful engineering.

              Gas mileage has added up.

Pros - ["gas mileage", "interior smooth design"]

Cons - ["tiny bugs can get in", "tires are too small."]

Driving a hybrid automobile has been a long term money saving advantage. Anybody who can appreciate that should certainly consider the Toyota Prius. Acquired from a dealership in Delaware, 2015. The persona series has held up very well for what is almost now a decade. To tally up the amount saved at the pump would be somewhere around $10,000 at this point. For most of the populace, that is a subs...
