Overview

The Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV is a proud member of the compact SUV segment, locking horns with cars like the Jeep Wrangler and the Nissan Xterra. Spread across a single trim, the FJ Cruiser starts off at a base price of MSRP $27,680 and carries on to $29,270. Its 4.0L V6 engine, however, there is a choice between a 5-speed automatic transmission and a 6-speed manual transmission (available on the AWD model). This gives the SUV 260 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. With that, it manages a 0-60 of 7.1 seconds and boasts a towing capacity of 4,700 pounds. Moving to fuel economy, the FJ Cruiser manages to get a combined EPA rating of 18 MPG, which is just average for the class, with most of its rivals reaching similar numbers. It also has a ground clearance of 9.6 inches.

Buying Advice

The rugged-looking 2014 FJ Cruiser is one of the rare off-road SUVs and even though it is the final year of production for this vehicle, it'll flaunt its capability for one last time. If you're looking for a serious off-road SUV, you can't get better than the FJ Cruiser, particularly the base trim with AWD system. While it lacks fancy furnishings, it does offer adequate off-road-friendly optional features and packages.

Its a shame Toyota discontinued this vehicle!

Pros - ["It can get me through 13 inches of unplowed snow in the winter with no problems.", "Extremely reliable, never had any mechanical issues with it. I have also owned a 2007 FJ and it was the same. Best vehicle I have owned."]

Cons - ["Blind spots in the cab, although you can get use to it.", "* The back windows do not roll down."]

The FJ cruiser is an extremely reliable vehicle that breaks records in high mileage. It handles remarkably in rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions. It has a five star rating for safety. Includes front and back side curtain air backs and well as driver and passenger airbags, advanced stability control and various traction control features.
