Overview

Competing in the compact SUV, the 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV goes up against other notable names in the class like the Jeep Wrangler and the Nissan Xterra. With just one trim, the FJ Cruiser starts off at a base price of MSRP of $27,030 and carries on to $28,620. Not all trims are built equal, however, as there are two transmissions on offer. The standard engine is a 4.0L V6 engine rated for 260 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. With this engine, the FJ Cruiser gives you a towing capacity of 5000 pounds. An optional 6-speed manual transmission is also offered if you opt for the full-time 4WD version.

Buying Advice

The FJ Cruiser is a distinctive-looking SUV with go-anywhere ability. Available in just one trim and two drivetrains, our recommendation is the top-level 4WD trim with automatic transmission which gets the job done all by itself when it comes to off-road, unlike the manual transmission. To make it even more capable, we suggest the Trail Teams Special Edition package which adds off-road tires, an upgraded suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, and some more upgrades.

Its a shame Toyota discontinued this vehicle!

Pros - ["It can get me through 13 inches of unplowed snow in the winter with no problems.", "Extremely reliable, never had any mechanical issues with it. I have also owned a 2007 FJ and it was the same. Best vehicle I have owned."]

Cons - ["Blind spots in the cab, although you can get use to it.", "* The back windows do not roll down."]

The FJ cruiser is an extremely reliable vehicle that breaks records in high mileage. It handles remarkably in rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions. It has a five star rating for safety. Includes front and back side curtain air backs and well as driver and passenger airbags, advanced stability control and various traction control features.
