Overview

The Grand Cherokee from Jeep comes with a vast range of models across different price points. The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with some major changes including a mildly updated exterior which stays mostly similar to the older version. A new 8-speed automatic transmission has been introduced for this year. The interior also has been updated and some new tech has been added to the cabin.

Buying Advice

The Limited trim in a 4WD configuration would be the best option to choose in the 2014 Grand Cherokee lineup. It comes with a set of updated features over the base trim. Opting for the 4WD drivetrain will surely improve the offroad capabilities and enhance the stability and traction of the vehicle. The Limited trim also has a considerably lower price than the higher trim which makes it the best choice.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with three engine options and four main trim options and a more powerful SRT trim which would be received separately. Pricing for the 2014 Grand Cherokee starts at $29,495 and goes above 50K for the highest-end model. It competes with the Buick Enclave, Ford Edge, and the Nissan Murano SL. Let’s see how it manages to compete with the competition.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in four main trim lines namely Laredo, Limited Overland, and Summit. All models come with a 3.6 L V6 engine under the hood. We Recommend

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a 3.6 L V6 engine under the hood mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels as the standard powertrain configuration. This V6 produces a strong 290 hp and 260 lb-ft and 4WD is an available option for all trims. The Limited trim and upwards could also be upgraded with a stronger 5.7 L that outputs 360 hp and 390 lb-ft.

The base engine is strong and can take the Grand Cherokee to a speed of 60mph in just 7.7 seconds. The Grand Cherokee crosses the quarter-mile mark in 15.8 seconds which is also a good time. This Jeep is a good one to drive and on the road, it remains stable and handles cornering impressively. The ride quality is also good although the suspension setup is tuned towards the stiffer side.

The Grand Cherokee even with the base engine is the strongest in this competition. The Buick Enclave and the Ford Escape closely follow with slightly lower power outputs. However, the Ford is the fastest in straight line runs followed by the Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee has a much higher price range than the Murano and the Escape but still, it is offered in lower-priced trims also. Overall the 2014 Grand Cherokee is a powerful option even with the base V6 and when equipped with the stronger V8 it is undefeatable.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

Despite being a powerful and well-performing machine, the 2014 Grand Cherokee manages to provide good fuel economy. It squeezes out the fuel efficiency of 17 mpg in the city, 25 on the highway, and a combined efficiency of 20 mpg. Along with a much larger 24.6-gallon fuel tank, the Grand Cherokee delivers a segment-leading combined range of 492 miles. Overall the Grand Cherokee is a great option in terms of fuel efficiency.

The Ford Edge is a superb performer in the fuel economy sector. It provides a fuel economy of 22mpg while the Grand Cherokee has the largest fuel capacity and delivers the most range. The Buick with the larger footprint and the extra row comes with the lowest fuel efficiency. Overall the Ford is the winner in terms of fuel economy while the Nissan and the Jeep are great options.

Interior
8.0/10

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a quality interior and a neatly arranged cabin consisting of premium elements in the higher trims. The seats are comfortable and offer great support and won’t tire you on long journeys. However, even with the slightly updated interior, the Grand Cherokee’s dash looks a bit outdated. There is an ample amount of space on the inside and both rows are spacious and offer comfortable seating.

The seats are wrapped in cloth in the base trim while it gets updated to leather in the higher trims and gains multiple adjustability and lumbar support. The highest-end Summit trim comes with Natura Plus leather-trimmed seating which is a nice touch. Overall the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a high-quality interior with enough space and plenty of cargo capacity. The Grand Cherokee is a great overall option considering the fact that it has a great interior also.
