Overview

The world is taking big strides in its eternal quest for comfort and convenience. And if one lags to catch up with that, then it is no surprise that the market for it will be myopic only. The 2014 INFINITI QX60 is a three-row luxury crossover that comes under the price tag of $42,100 and can be a potent contender from the brand.

Buying Advice

Though, there are no such trims for the QX60 yet have variations as per its drive layout. Between the two variants of QX60, we suggest opting for the AWD trim since it is only $1,400 more expensive than the FWD. Furthermore, the AWD also comes with some extra added features in the infotainment and safety segment. Thus, better traction, maneuverability, comfort for long hauling, and practicality can be achieved in it with hardly any impact on your pocket.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The model is available in both FWD and AWD variants to choose from and has been generous in its offering of space, economy, and practicality. Moreover, it does not have any trim variation as such and competes against the likes of the Audi Q7, Acura MDX, and Buick Enclave. The rivals are established brands, meaning, the Infiniti QX60 would have to be an extra in all segments to beat them in their own games.

Features
8.0/10

The Infiniti QX60 is available in only one trim, which is the base model. There are two drivetrains: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive that can be availed of at minimal price gaping. Moreover, it has been loaded with comfort features which include the heated front seats that can be adjusted in 8-ways and that too via electrical actuation.

The safety segment is also satisfying as it gets the Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Monitoring System but one has to spend some extra dollars for them. The list adds the leather steering wheels and dual-zone auto climate control as well in its bin.

Apart from the aforementioned, one has the privilege to get GPS Navigation in the additional package along with a Tri-zone Automatic Climate Control for the AWD variant. The Remote Keyless Entry, Engine Immobilizer, and Leather Upholstery have been kept constant across the drive variants. The audio unit of the 6-speaker is sufficient but the enrichment can be intensified with Bose performance. Thus, on the whole, there might not be trim strata but the individuality surely stands it away from the crowd.

We Recommend

Though, there are no such trims for the QX60 yet have variations as per its drive layout. Fuel Economy
8.0/10

With its FWD version, the QX60 offers 20 MPG in the cities and 26 MPG on the highways. The AWD variant, however, reduces the mileage by 1 MPG both for the city and highway. Regardless of that, it is still the best-in-class fuel economy. It has decent range coverage of up to 527 miles as well which puts it just behind the Q7. The CVT may take a toll on its performance but smooth transition saves up fuel in the end.

Rivals like Acura MDX are pretty close to QX60 and have a parallel coverage as well. But what makes the former an inspiring choice is its middle ground between the performance phenomenon and fuel management. The Audi Q7, on the other hand, is a hard bargain in its fuel appetite but the 26.4-gallon fuel tank keeps the refueling at least 50 miles more away in comparison to the rivals.

Interior
9.0/10

The 2014 INFINITI QX60 interior is one the most packed and well-organized one if it has to be put out in simple words. The seat cushioning along with power adjustment and ventilation at its disposal has leatherette touch all over it. The leather upholstery continues to span over the gear shifter, steering wheel, and door insert. The Dual Zone Front Automatic Air Conditioning in FWD goes with the flow to evolve into Tri-zone automatic climate control in the AWD variant. One even gets the enhanced INFINITI controller along with a center console on the dashboard for managing all at once.

15.0

Compared to its competition, the INFINITI QX60 offers the largest cabin in this segment. Even though the third row isn't as exemplary as the first two for adults, it still stands out among other SUVs with three rows. The same is not true for its cargo capacity as it has a marginal one of just 15.8 cubic feet while the others like Enclave have it up to 23.3 cubic feet. But ignoring this specific aspect might drive you to its sound ergonomics with uncompromised visibility and experience. Some key features of the interior are mentioned below:

  • Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control
  • Cruise Control
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Leather Steering Wheel

How intuitive is the 2014 INFINITI QX60's infotainment unit?

The 2014 Infiniti QX60 gets the standard 7.0-inch touchscreen along with 6-speaker audio unit which can be converted into a Bose 13-speaker or 15-speaker depending on the additional packages like the Premium and Theater respectively. Moreover, it gets Bluetooth Wireless Phone Connectivity, XM Satellite radio, and Radio Data System for different facets of one’s engagement. One has the tracking on oneself via GPS Navigation as well. The other standard features include an iPod interface and USB ports. Some key infotainment features are mentioned below:

  • Bose 6-speaker audio system
  • Music Streaming
  • Navigation
  • USB ports
  • Bluetooth system
  • 7.0-inch infotainment screen

Exterior
8.0/10

The 2014 QX60 is simply decorated machinery which has got that styling to compel others for a glance at least for once. The gradual inclination of the front from its bonnet to roof seems in congruence with the boundary limits of its fascia. The chrome-accented grilles with Infiniti badging in those dark backgrounds are complementary to sleek projector-beam headlamps. The rear, meanwhile, is not as expressive as the front. It does have a spoiler attached as an extension, more for dynamics purposes. In the end, the description ends with the 18" Split 5-Spoke Aluminum-Alloy Wheels which hold the frame throughout.

Looks and exterior outfit have their places but dimensional aspects have concealed motives which can be a turnaround, despite an appealing silhouette. The QX60, fortunately, falls on the right side of the bank and is one of the most compact ones with a comparatively lower weight altogether. With these parameters on paper, it is quite a stable SUV with a rollover risk of just 17%. But like other previous segments, the MDX has again proven to be a better investment for its control and handling pursuit. Some exterior features of this car are:

  • 18.0-inch wheels
  • HID headlamps
  • Power-folding and heated mirrors
  • Power liftgate
  • Moonroof

Safety
8.0/10

The INFINITI QX60 received the highest possible crash test ratings from both the NHTSA and IIHS. An overall rating of 5-stars with 4-stars in frontal and rollover departments by the NHTSA and a “Good” in all domains by the IIHS is a litmus test for its structural integrity. Moreover, it gets a host of advanced safety features like the Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

On top of that, it also houses Lane Departure Warning System and Post-Collision Safety System. These mentioned features can be integrated into it under different packages like Technology or Driver-Assistance. These advanced safety features have been listed below for your reference:

  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
  • Post-Collision Safety System

Final Verdict

The INFINITI QX60 is an excellent three-row crossover with excellent fuel economy, accommodating cabin layout, and a great list of advanced safety features. However, there are other issues relating to the SUV, such as outdated infotainment, limited cargo room, and an underpowered engine that cannot be overlooked. So, we recommend going for its rivals like the Acura MDX, which has much more features and is about the same price. Furthermore, the MDX is also one of the most efficient SUVs in its class.
