Overview

The Honda Insight is based on the Honda Civic. But that’s what it is about on the outside, mostly. The 2022 Honda Insight Hybrid carries forward to the 2022 model line-up without any changes. And just like any other compact car, it offers most of the same features at an aggressive pricing, which might be slightly over for some.

Buying Advice

The 2022 Honda Insight Hybrid EX trim is the trim to go for, according to us. Yes, it does get a few features less than the Touring trim, but the smaller wheels on the EX provide a better economy and the car overall, also costs a few thousand dollars less. The optional packages are all cosmetic, and we do not specifically recommend any.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 Honda Insight Hybrid has got a price bump of around $2,000 for its line-up. The car now comes in two trim levels only, as the base LX trim has been completely removed. The Honda Insight is a practical daily driver, offering the best of both worlds and not defying you a good time. With everything the Insight does the way it does, it rivals the 2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid and the 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid.

Interior
6.0/10

The interiors on the 2022 Honda Insight Hybrid are like a penthouse in terms of compact cars. Its roomy, airy and has a lot of storage options in the center console. The interior are well-designed, and more inclined towards practicality and functionality. They are slightly driver-incliendas well. The controls are easy to access, and are sturdy. There are hints of similarity in the interiors with the Accord and the Civic. The best part of this interior is how well-laid out everything is. Also, the fit, finish and quality of this interior is excellent. The one issue is the engine noise that sweeps in at higher speeds.

The 2022 Honda Insight Hybrid is a five seater car. Getting in and out of this interior is not an issue, thanks to the large doors that open wide. The seating benefits from the space inside. Up front, there is tons of legroom and shoulder room. There is a lot of adjustability available. The Insight sits low on the inside, but this does not affect the visibility offered. There is decent comfort and support on the front seats. The rear seats are spacious as well. The legroom does stand at 37 inches, but even tall passengers will find themselves at comfort in the rear. The only issue with the rear is the under-thigh support, as seat bottoms are thin, making long journeys slightly troublesome.

The Touring trim adds navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot capacity and a 450-Watt 10-speaker audio system. The infotainment system is easy to use, sharp and quick. The smartphone integration is also seamless, and HondaLink is very useful as well. Some of the highlights of the infotainment system are:

  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Voice controls
  • SiriusXM
  • Bluetooth
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • HD Radio
  • HondaLink

Exterior
6.0/10

The 2022 Honda Insight Hybrid’s exterior gets no changes for the year 2022. The Insight Hybrid’s exterior design takes a lot from the Civic and the Accord. The roofline is similar to the CIvic’s, and the front and the rear look extremely similar to the Accord’s; only scaled down. The front sports a massive thick line finished in chrome that runs across the grille, in between the headlamps. The grille is well-proportioned, with a few thin lines and two-three thick black lines that give it a sporty look. The headlamps are all LED, and the sleek design with the LED detailing inside looks beautiful.

The entire grille and headlamp is set up on the front bumper itself, which can be seen even above the headlamps. The hood is wide and has a nice curvature to it. Along the side, you have the swept roofline that merges well with the rear hood. There are also lines that flow all the way to the rear from the front wheel. The wheel wells are deep, with 5-spoke alloy wheels. The Touring trim also gets 5-spoke alloy wheels, but with a better design. The rear is short, but with a smaller rear bumper and a chrome line running at the bottom. The tail lights look sporty and just enhance the Insight’s great looks.

Competition
6.0/10

2022 Honda Insight Hybrid vs 2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

The 2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is probably the most direct competitor to the Insight. The Elantra offers a ton of standard features over the Insight. Also, the warranty is better on the Insight. The fuel efficiency for these two is well above 50 mpg, but the Elantra has the better range. For 2022, the Elantra does not get any major changes.

The Honda has a smaller engine, but makes more power. In terms of performance, the Insight is ahead of the Elantra. In terms of safety, the insight is better equipped and has better ratings as well. The price difference is not a lot as well, with the Honda being priced around $500 over the Elantra.

2022 Honda Insight Hybrid vs 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid gets no changes for the year 2022. This car is basically the engine of the Prius in the body of a Corolla. This combo offers an inexpensive compact car, with excellent economy figures and a long range as well. Comparatively, the Corolla gets the bigger engine, but makes less power and torque, resulting in slower performance.

The Corolla is more affordable than the Insight, but the extra bucks gets a lot of standard equipment and some extra oomph as well. The Insight is slightly ahead of the Corolla in terms of safety as well. All in all, the Insight makes a better proposition compared to the Corolla Hybrid.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Honda Insight Hybrid offers excellent value for money, top fuel economy and has a ton of features. It is among the best daily drivers to own, with high safety ratings for an affordable rate. The interiors are mesmerizing, and spacious. The fuel economy is slightly behind the competition. However, the Honda Insight Hybrid offers a refined engine, with practical and comfortable interiors, and simple but advanced technology as well. The ride quality is smooth, and there are a lot of creature comforts on offer as well. All this, at a price point of $25,000 makes the 2022 Honda Insight Hybrid a very appealing prospect, and we surely do recommend one to anyone looking for a hybrid compact car.
