Overview

The 2014 Chevy Equinox comes with minor tweaks this year including the newer optional Red Rock Metallic and Silver Topaz Metallic exterior colors across its LS, 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ trim lineup. Having been introduced with chrome wheels for the LTZ configuration as well, the 2014 Equinox MSRP now starts at $24,440 while retaining the thrust of the 182 horsepower 2.4L I-4 and 301 hp 3.6L V-6 engines under the hood. Moreover, its towing capacity of 1,500-3,500 lbs and interior cargo capacity of the 63.7 cu-ft remain unchanged just like the 2014 Equinox MPG hitting as much as 32 MPG.

2014 Chevrolet Equinox Buying Advice

The 2014 Chevy Equinox and the 2013 Equinox have got no major difference in features and investments. The same stays true in the case of safety build and comfort as well. Therefore, one can go for either of them while the 2011 and 2012 model years can be ditched.

Considering the rivals such as the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Ford Escape, the competition quotient does not seem to be an easy buy for the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. However, its high-end reliability and noticeable trim hierarchy update in conjunction with worthy FWD and AWD configurations surely give it an opportunity to squeeze into the marketplace quite conveniently.

2014 Chevrolet Equinox for sale

The used Chevy Equinox 2014 costs you a ballpark of the listed price ranging from $11,500 to $19,900. In addition, one does get a chance to own the 2014 Equinox LS through a lease deal of $233/month for 72 months with a down payment of $1,000.

Buying Advice

The 2014 Chevy Equinox LTZ gets the best out of your investment with its balanced proposition of cabin comfort and interior engagement tech-ends. The optional V6 is also available for better performance while the safety suite provides you a reliable safe drive for a reasonable price increment.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Being a carry-over model the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox does not deviate in its reliability as the J.D power rating of 86 stands still just like those 182 hp I-4 and 301 hp V6 engines. Moreover, the increased intensity in safety features last year is going to be as it is which would sincerely give it a boost in stance while maintaining its unabashed 1,095 lbs-1,202 lbs payload capability.

With changing model year, the overall charges of the maintenance, repairing, fuel, and insurance change too as the total pay-off now costs $26,010 for the 2014 Equinox, an increase of $1,710. However, one must notice that its specific annual maintenance has gone down to $475 only, a reduction in this regard for the 3rd consecutive year, owing to its improved quality.

Features
8.0/10

The 2014 Chevy Equinox LS starts the campaign for an investment of $24,440. It specs the 17-inch Alloy Wheels, 6-speaker audio unit, and a Graphic Interface Display. However, the list further reforms as we get inside the $26,085 priced Equinox 1LT that appears to offer a 7-Inch touchscreen display with USB & iPod audio interface and Bluetooth Connectivity.

The 2014 Equinox 2LT MSRP of $27,955 is the next bid one has to pay to get in touch with Heated Front Seats and Pioneer Premium 250-watt 8-speaker Sound System. In the meantime, spend $3,655 more and you can drive the Equinox LTZ 2014 that specs Perforated Leather-Appointed Seats and 19-inch Chrome-clad Wheels as standard alongside Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The 2014 Chevy Equinox MPG rating is no different from its predecessor as the 22 MPG in the city, 32 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined by the 182 hp I-4 and FWD still helps you to navigate till 601 miles at its best. On the other hand, the AWD variant gets these numbers to 20/29/23 MPG while keeping the gas tank size of 18.8 gallons as it is.

In the meantime, when you prefer to rev the 301 hp V6 engine the fuel economy is lowered further to 17/25/20 MPG in the city/highway/combined terrains in that FWD configuration. Adding that tinge of traction with the V6 exhilaration through the AWD platform brings that engineered MPG rating by EPA to 16/24/19 MPG respectively.

In terms of data, the Chevy Equinox has got a 5.5 gallons bigger fuel tank than the CR-V with which the former has 70 miles better combined range despite having similar fuel mileage. It is true in the case of Escape where the Escape lags behind the Equinox in combined range coverage by 90 miles due to 1 MPG lower economy and 5.7 gallons smaller fuel tank capacity.

Interior
8.0/10

The 2014 Chevrolet Equinox interior has been designed to charm you with its standard heated front seats that are available for the 2LT and LTZ configurations. That being said, the 8-way Power Driver Seat is also common for these two trims, unlike that 8-way power-adjustable front passenger seat that is on offer as inherent virtue only for the Equinox LTZ.

Coming on the touches, the 2014 Equinox interior is a melange of both premium cloth and leather upholsteries, the only deviation is that the leather finish is there for the LT variant while the rest has to have the cloth surface. It remains mostly the same in terms of cabin temperature regulation with manual climate control for the LS and 1LT and automatic climate control for the 2LT and LTZ. However, the cargo capacity of 31.4cu-ft to 63.7 cu-ft stays common for all.

Based on the data, the 2014 Equinox cargo space has 7 cu-ft less accommodation than the RAV4, 5.8 cu-ft less volume than the CR-V, and 3 cu-ft smaller gulf than the Escape. However, it has 2.7 inches and 3 inches better legroom in the 2nd row than the RAV4 and the Escape respectively. As far as control settings are concerned, the Equinox LS fits in the standard Graphic Interface Display(GID).

To keep you entertained in its spacious ambiance, the 2014 Equinox interior has been packed with the 6-speaker audio unit for the LS and Equinox 1LT and Pioneer Premium 250-watt 8-speaker Sound System for the 2LT and LTZ trims. On to that, we have got the 7-Inch touchscreen display from 1LT onwards and an optional navigation unit from 2LT onwards.

Exterior
8.0/10

The 2014 Chevy Equinox flaunts newly added two exterior paints along with an age-old single exhaust outlet and chrome strips. Having those halogen headlamps with automatic exterior lamp control follow the same lead as that of the 17-inch Alloy Wheels, 18-inch Machined-aluminum Wheels, and 19-inch Chrome-clad Wheels.

Also, the 2014 Equinox gets to be a little choosy in terms of some assets including the power liftgate as LTZ has it as standard but 2LT demands for extra investments. Meanwhile, there seems a completely different story when the roof rails are found on all except for the L trim. Apart from these, we have a rear lip spoiler and exterior mirrors with memory function available to us as per trim level.

Rounding off these figures means to acknowledge Equinox's 0.6 inches higher ground clearance than both RAV4 and CR-V but shorter than the Escape by 1 inch. On top of that, the Equinox might just be a tough one to drive as well due to its 412 lbs heavier curb weight than the CR-V. The rest of the rivals have similar narration on their front.

  • Chrome surround grille
  • Massive wheel arches
  • 18-inch chrome-clad wheels
  • Roof rails
  • Black and chrome exterior accents

Safety
8.0/10

The 2014 Chevrolet Equinox has a unibody structure mostly created with high-strength steel and scores a 4-star NHTSA safety rating. Also, an overall "Good" safety rating by the IIHS along with a 'Top Safety Pick+' stature gives Equinox a slight in the market. Some of the noticeable safety features have been mentioned below:

  • Anti-lock braking system
  • Traction control
  • Electronic stability control
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane departure warning

Competition
9.0/10

2014 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2014 Honda CR-V

The 2014 Chevy Equinox is simply more spacious than the CR-V in its seating ease and has better range reach as well. However, the latter seems to make the ground level with the Equinox 2014 with its better power acceleration and cargo capacity. All in all, both weigh the similar in their proposition and one can go for either of them.

2014 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2014 Toyota RAV4

The 2014 Chevy Equinox and the 2014 Toyota RAV4 have got parallel towing utility but the RAV4 outclasses the former in power performance and dynamics. However, the 2014 Equinox does not go idle as its better cabin roominess and range practicality on offer level up the competition. Hence, both are equally desirable.

2014 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2014 Ford Escape

The 2014 Chevy Equinox is clearly ahead of the 2014 Escape in its cabin upholstery and spaciousness. It is true for interior isolation and range coverage as well. But the Escape has proved to be more practical in cargo volume and performance surge while maintaining the same level of towing prowess.

Final Verdict

The Equinox is a popular SUV in its segment, thanks to its balanced powertrain return between utility and power performance. The interior comfort and engagement is also impressive just like its safety virtues. Therefore, one should consider it for sure.
