Overview

The 2022 Ford Bronco is a highly capable off-roading SUV. The base 2-door 2022 Bronco starts at $30,800 while the base 4-door starts at $34,700. The Bronco returns for the 2022 model year unchanged from its debut year and competes with the tried and tested Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Defender. Buyers will have new exterior paint colors to choose from, Eruption Green and Hot Pepper Red, and two new trims namely - the Everglades and the newly added Bronco Raptor. Also, the off-road-focused Sasquatch package can now be added with the 7-speed manual transmission option.

2022 Ford Bronco Buying Advice

Since the Bronce is still in its first generation, the 2022 model year remains largely unchanged. Opting for the 2021 Ford Bronco would be wiser as it is cheaper and offers similar features as the 2022 Bronco. However, if you don't plan on going off-road as often and can make do with a less capable SUV, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport starting at an MSRP of $28,565 is also a viable option.

You can get the Bronco with one of two turbocharged engines including a V6. Four-wheel drive comes standard, and a seven-speed manual transmission is also available. For off-road purists, there is the Sasquatch package. To our delight, Ford also offers a long list of accessories to customize your Bronco to your desire. Above all, the interior is a fresh breath of air as it is purposefully built and appears quite unique. Big news for 2022 Bronco is the new Raptor version that will offer upgraded suspension and a more powerful engine.

2022 Ford Bronco for sale

The fan-favorite SUV is available in eight different trim levels with all-wheel-drive as standard. Pricing for the 2022 Ford Bronco starts at an MSRP of $30,800 for the Base 2-door, 4X4 trim while the top-of-the-line Bronco Raptor starts at $68,500. Furthermore, the five-year ownership cost for the 2022 Bronco Base amounts to $53,261 which is around $2,200 higher than the segment average.

Buying Advice

The Ford Bronco trim lineup is well packed with features and intelligent tech amenities on offer, the SUV offers a great luxury quotient with the mid-range trim levels. You can go with the Badlands trim that offers heated front seats with lumbar support, 33 inches all-terrain tires, and unique Badlands suspension for superior off-road capability. It costs $44,495 and $46,590 for the 2-door and 4-door versions respectively and provides the best value for the features proposition.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Just like its predecessor, the new Ford Bronco remains an excellent off-road biased SUV that offers a compliant ride. Although, the retro-styling and inherited off-roading capabilities are coupled with modern touches of technology and comfort that will surely hurt its rivals. The SUV comes with impressive features like Bronco Underbody Protection, Front and Rear Electronic Locking Differential, G.O.A.T Modes, Ford Co-Pilot360, and SYCN 4 Technology for all-round performance.

Prices of the 2022 model see a bump of $2,300 for the 2-door base model over the 2021 Ford Bronco and start at $30,800. The 2022 Bronco 4-door starts at a base price of $34,700. The 2022 Ford Bronco continues to rival the likes of Land Rover Defender and Jeep Wrangler.

It costs $42,095 for the two-door version and provides the best value for the features proposition.

Both the Wildtrak and Everglades trim offer the bigger engine as standard. New for 2022, the Bronco Raptor is exclusively available with the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine. The Bronco also offers various packages with systematic disbursement of features. The various packages on offer are Standard Package, MID Package, High Package, Lux Package, and Sasquatch Package.

Fuel Economy
7.4/10

Almost every class rival is more fuel-efficient than this Ford. The Bronco in its base spec gets EPA estimated 20 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway regardless of transmission. With the V6, fuel economy ratings drop to 19 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway. Lastly, the Raptor with its 3.0L twin-turbo V6 gets 15 MPG in the city and 16 MPG on the highway.

By comparison, every class rival including the Jeep Wrangler is more efficient than the Ford Bronco. What's even more disappointing is the 16.9-gallon gas tank on the 2-door models that deliver only 338 miles of combined driving range which is the lowest in the competition. However, a 20.8-gallon fuel tank is standard on every 4-door Bronco model and delivers about 416 miles of combined driving range.

Interior
6.0/10

"The Bronco does a great job of blending modern styling with the look of Ford Broncos of yesteryear." - Cars.USNews.com

The 2022 Ford Bronco's interior is simple yet functional with ample cargo space on offer. The majority of the seating surfaces utilize waterproof materials so that while you're off-road muddy water and dust won’t hold you back. The thoughtful design further continues on the dashboard with a rack on top to mount cameras and smartphones to record every terrain and trail that you explore. Further down the dashboard are four rubberized buttons for things like traction control and differential lock.

There are rubberized and washable floor mats too to keep off all the dirt. The wide range of upholstery material options varies from uber-functional vinyl grade to opulent leather for a plusher experience. When it comes to infotainment, the 2022 Ford Bronco won’t feel old. The infotainment screen size ranges from 8-inch for the base trim up to 12-inch on higher trims. Further, the infotainment system runs on Ford’s SYNC 4 user interface, which can be upgraded with over-the-air updates.

Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot and optional Navigation. The audiophiles can also opt for the fabulous Bang & Olufsen premium speaker set up to entertain the passengers.

The Ford Bronco's interior offers great practicality and functionality along with a striking and unique design. However, the Land Rover Defender offers a much more spacious interior, both in its 2-door and 4-door forms. Being significantly more expensive, the Defender also features more upscale materials and build quality than the Bronco. As compared to the Jeep Wrangler, the Bronco is on par in terms of build quality and appearance. Though the Jeep Wrangler's interior is slightly less spacious than the Bronco, especially in its 2-door configuration.

Some of the creature comforts offered in the 2022 Ford Bronco are:

  • Waterproof marine-grade interior upholstery
  • Integrated grab handles in the dashboard
  • First-Gen inspired instrument cluster
  • Rubberized flooring with drainplugs
  • Standard 8-inch LCD touchscreen unit
  • Optional 12-inch infotainment display
  • Ford SYNC 4 user interface
  • FordPass Performance application integration
  • Over Topographical trail maps from NeoTreks AccuTerra Maps

Exterior
8.0/10

"The new Bronco has only been out for a year and is already winning awards. Like the iF Design Gold Award. " - Kbb.com

The retro-styling and resurrected aesthetic appeal will drive the attention of the majority of the customers and even eyes on the roads. The revived Ford Bronco will feature the inspired round headlamps from the legend that ruled 22 years before. This time, there are new exterior paint colors to choose from, Eruption Green and Hot Pepper Red. The 2-door comes with a modular hard top with no option for a convertible. For that, you can choose a soft-top or modular hardtop on the 4-door.

Appearance-wise, the “Bronco” has a titled grille, huge wheel arches, and big wheels to travel on the worst roads with dusty patches or water-logged unpaved patches. Just like the previous Bronco, the 2022 Bronco will also have removable body panels, including the roof and doors.

The looks are stunning and there’s no chance of ignoring this icon upon having a slight glimpse. The figures suggest that the 2022 Ford Bronco is the longest and widest of the lot, yet the lightest off-roading SUV to grab. Though the Defender offers the best ground clearance, which would give it an edge in off-road skill show-off.

Some highlighted exterior features included in the Ford Bronco are:

  • LED lighting all round
  • Removable roof
  • Integrated roll cage in the curtain bars
  • Tailgate mounted full-sized spare wheel
  • 11 eye-popping exterior shades
  • 3 body styles- Modular 2-door, and 4-door and 4-door crossover

Safety
9.0/10

The new Ford Bronco has neither been crash-tested by NHTSA nor IIHS. However, safety features are reasonable in the base Bronco, including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, hill-start assist, and automatic high beams.

The Ford Bronco equips a plethora of safety features, some of which are:

  • Personal Safety System
  • Airbags
  • AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) -
  • Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for Children
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Inflatable Safety Belts
  • forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking
  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert.

2022 Ford Bronco vs. 2022 Jeep Wrangler

The 2022 Ford Bronco is already a step ahead of its natural rival Jeep Wrangler by being a revived legendary nameplate that will surely attract more crowds. In terms of performance, the Bronco flaunts better figures. To this, the Jeep Wrangler can respond to a wider powertrain option which includes hybrid and electric variant options coming shortly. The Jeep Wrangler has been around for a while now, while the Ford Bronco will re-enter the market after 22 years, you see where are we going with this?

2022 Ford Bronco vs. 2022 Land Rover Defender

The 2022 Ford Bronco and the 2022 Land Rover Defender are more closely matched off-roading SUV duets. But the Bronco offers value-based features. The big margin in the price is obvious with the luxury that the Land Rover Defender offers. With the smallest engine displacement, the Defender might seem to be underpowered on paper, but real-world scenarios have depicted how this British off-roading SUV tackles the hardest challenges. Though it is the heftiest of the lot, the unmatched ground clearance and advanced technology bits give it an edge over all rivals, including the 2022 Ford Bronco.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Ford Bronco is a no-brainer pick in its segment for its ultimate off-road capability. Undoubtedly it should be on the list of off-road enthusiasts but for buyers looking for a compact SUV, this Ford can be a pricey option. It comes with powerful powertrain options. The Bronco has a revived vibe and retro-styled design cues, yet the modern touch inside will appeal to buyers of all ages. The Bronco’s interior is simple yet functional. You will get ample passenger and cargo space in both two- and four-door body styles. Some of the competitors offer a more comfortable ride, and better fuel economy ratings, that's the only real drawback this Ford has.
