Boasted as a 4-door- sports car, the 2017 Nissan Maxima is an executive car which although does not carry the luxury moniker, but provides features and performance similar to some of the high-end cars in the top market.

The 2017 Nissan Maxima Sedan is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine with a CVT transmission, producing 300 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque, through the front wheels. It does 0-60 mph in 5.8s and quarter mile in 14.3s. It comes with a sporty and premium design and has a great fuel efficiency.

Buying Advice

We would recommend the SV 3.5 trim as it balances cost and features to provide a great value for money deal.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Nissan Maxima has Chrysler 300 Limited, Kia Cadenza Premium, and the Ford Taurus SE giving it a good competition. These cars provide pretty much similar features and performance as that of the Maxima but the Maxima proves to be a steal. Find out why.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Being a mid-size sedan the Nissan Maxima posts impressive economy figures. The Nissan Maxima can roll for 21 miles in the city or can cruise through 30 miles on the highway for every gallon of gasoline. Summing it up, the 2017 Nissan Maxima is good for a combined 25 mpg.

Furthermore, the Maxima gets a fuel tank capacity of 18-gallons which is decent but definitely not the best in this class. However, credits to its impressive mpg figures, the Maxima returns a city/highway range of 37/540 miles.

The Nissan Maxima dominates all the other rivals in terms of economy with 25 mpg combined. The Chrysler 300's mpg and Kia Cadenza's mpg slot in the second spot with 23 mpg combined, while the Ford Taurus is the least fuel-efficienct sedan in this comparison.

Interior
6.0/10

"The 2017 Maxima may not have the brand name of a luxury car, but it has the interior of one." - Edmunds

Seating and Comfort

The 2017 Nissan Maxima's interior envelops the passengers in a plush and comfortable environment. Most of the surfaces are covered in premium quality materials including soft-touch surfaces and woodgrain trim. The cabin insulation is decent and most of the road and wind noise is eliminated by the acoustic windshield. However, the engine noise is quite evident at higher speeds.

The seats are comfortable and snug as the Maxima comes standard with Nissan's Zero Gravity seats. The seats also get additional bolstering to provide the occupants more support during extended journey hours. All the trims of the Maxima get power front seats, heated seats are present on all trims above the base, while the SR and Premium trim also add the ventilated feature.

Speaking of the space factor, the Nissan Maxima provides ample space to all the occupants, in all directions, at all times. • Metal-Look/Piano Black Inserts
  • Front Cupholder
  • Proximity Key
  • Carpet Floor Trim and Carpet Trunk Lid

The screen is vivid and displays all the information in the form of crisp and clean graphics. The visibility is not affected even under direct sunlight and all the controls are in easy access to the driver. What further makes it a delight to operate is its user-friendly approach with big icons and easy-to-navigate through menus. Cargo Volume

The 2017 Nissan Maxima gets a trunk capacity of 14.3 cubic feet, which is not that great compared to the segment standards. The trunk isn't particularly big, however, its wide opening makes loading/unloading cargo an easy task. Furthermore, the rear seats can also be folded to increase the available storage space.

When compared against the rivals, the Nissan Maxima's practicality is not its A-game. The Ford Taurus offers the best in class cargo capacity with 20.1 cubic feet of storage space. The Chrylser 300 ranks second with 16.3 cubic feet of trunk space, followed up closely by the Kia Cadena that is rated at 16 cubic feet.

Exterior
7.0/10

The 2017 Nissan Maxima is a fresh take on a full-sizer that looks good now. How it ages is less certain. -thecarconnection

The 2017 Nissan Maxima remains majorly unchanged from the previous year's model in terms of its appearance. The front-end is characterized by a big-grille and LED headlights. The same look is duplicated by most of the Nissan lineup, which the company calls V-Motion. The side profile boasts some bold lines and creases flowing towards the back.

The rear-end gets a tall tail complemented by an illusional floating roof established via blacked-out rear pillars. The Maxima rolls on 18-inch wheels, while the more sport-oriented SR trim gets 19-inch alloys. There is also a Medallion Edition on offer that ups the ante with highlights such as illuminated kick plates, a special spoiler, and interior accent lighting.

The Nissan Maxima measures 192.8 in length while being 73.2in wide and 56.5in tall. It is 5.3in high from the ground with a wheelbase running 109.3in. Amongst its rivals, its wheelbase measures the shortest while being well built in other areas. • 18 alloy wheels
  • Keyless ignition
  • LED running lights

2017 Nissan Maxima vs 2017 Chrysler 300

The Chrysler 300 Limited starts at $33,000 and is powered by a 3.6L V6 belting out 292 hp and a torque of 260 lb-ft. The Chrysler 300 is a quiet, comfortable family sedan that although may not boast as good looks compared to the Nissan, is still a decent alternative. Packed with a good performance, good drivability, big and spacious, the Chrysler can give the Nissan a good run for its money.

2017 Nissan Maxima vs 2017 Kia Cadenza

The Kia Cadenza comes at a price of $31,990, for which it gets a 3.3L V6 engine belting out 290 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque. The Kia Cadenza lacks behind the Nissan Maxima in terms of performance but makes up for it with a better interior that's more spacious as well as better appointed. However, if packing light is not an issue with you, we suggest you go for the Maxima as it's miles ahead of the Cadenza in terms of performance, and that too without compromising on the economy.

Final Verdict

The 2017 Nissan Maxima is a hoot and an absolute bang for the buck; it offers good performance, highly rated by safety standards, excellent build, great feature list, and that can further be upgraded with few available optional features. The Maxima will not disappoint buyers for what it's worth.

              My Nissan Max

Pros - ["*the color", "*the body style"]

Cons - ["*The radio", "*No tint on windos"]

Regardless of what anyone says I absolutely love my new Maxima. It drives smooth and is super comfortable, it got 31 mpg on the hwy and averages 24 in the city which is great in my opinion. I love the exterior and interior of this car from the moment I laid eyes on it I fell in love*With a weighty foot on the throttle, the transmission delivers simulated upshifts and also responds well to manual ...

2018 Nissan Maxima GREAT LUXURY SEDAN

Pros - ["The aggressive bodystyle without being excessive.", "Overall great mechanics and easy to work on"]

Cons - ["Easy access to charging ports.", "Adjustable cup holders"]

Great performance as it shares same V6 as the Z. Enough performance while serving as a family friendly sedan. The aesthetics of the exterior are perfect for those look for an sgtesdiveblook that isn't excessive. Interior design is nice, simple, and tasteful. Love the steering wheel design allowing for performance driving. Good daily driver that can bring excitement into your life when you have th...

Pros - ["Sun roof on it", "Gps/navigation", "Heated and cooled seats"]

Cons - ["Sits low to the ground", "Not that good on gas", "Black color"]

I love the car. Only flaws ive had so far is the sun roof had leaked. I've only had the car a month and i like everthing in it. Heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, sunroof, sirus xm radio, radio has xm channels, gps and navigation in it. Sun shade in the back window has alot of perks.
