Overview

The 2017 Acura TLX remains unchanged from the previous model year except for the addition of new color options. The 2017 Acura TLX is offered in three main trim levels: base, Technology and Advance. With the 2017 TLX sedan, Acura is targeting the market occupied by the cars like BMW 3-series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, and Jaguar XE. The base 4-cylinder variant of the 2017 Acura TLX has a starting price of just under $33,000. The FWD variant with the V6 engine is just over $36,000 and fully loaded will be approximately $43,500. The V6 SH-AWD is priced around $42,500 and will cost you over $45,500 with the Advance Package. "Kelley Blue Book" believes that "you will experience sharper throttle response, heavier steering, and quicker gear change" just as we do. Check out more on this video.

Buying Advice

To get a bang for your buck, we recommend going for the optional V6 motor which comes with the Advanced package as it offers a great combination of performance and a great array of features along with plush interiors and great driving experience.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

"The 2017 Acura TLX offers near-midsize sedan accommodations at a price that undercuts most of the compact segment." - Edmunds

The Acura TLX, like the other cars in its class, does have an available V6 engine. The base model's 4-cylinder engine produces 206 hp, while the V6 produces a whopping 290 hp. The 2017 TLX completes the 0-60 mph sprint in 7.2 seconds and the quarter-mile in 14.2 seconds.

The Acura TLX has a starting price of $32,000 and a max price of $45,000. When you compare the price of the Acura TLX to the price of its competitors, you'll see how affordable it is. Despite the fact that it lacks the nuances that the Germans provide, it still has a lot of value and will make a fantastic addition to the garage.

2017 Acura TLX Seating and Comfort

The Acura TLX is a standard 5-seater with three seats in the rear. If the center of the three back seats is vacant, you may pull out the armrest on that seat, which houses two cup holders. Because of the car's modest size, you would expect some concessions in legroom and headroom, but that is not the case here.

Even taller individuals can sit comfortably in the rear cabin without banging their heads on the roof or forcing their knees into the front seats. All of the basic luxury amenities are included in the 2017 Acura TLX. Electric-adjustable seats, power windows, and a power sunroof are included.

Competition
7.0/10

2017 Acura TLX  Vs. 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C Class is priced higher than the Acura TLX. The Mercedes also offers more power and has better acceleration with its turbocharged 2L inline-4 compared to the naturally aspirated 2.4 L power unit in the TLX. The C Class offers RWD as standard while the Acura TLX comes standard with FWD. Both cars have plenty of safety features while the Acura offers more amenities as standard when compared to the C Class.

2017 Acura TLX  Vs. 2017 BMW 3 Series

The 2017 BMW 3 Series and the Acura TLX are evenly matched in terms of price. The base variants for both the sedans have similar power output, the main difference in the drivetrain is that the 3 series offers RWD as standard while the TLX comes with FWD. Both cars offer AWD systems in higher variants. The BMW edges out the Acura in terms of build quality and materials used inside the cabin.

2017 Acura TLX  Vs. 2017 Audi A4

Audi A4 has been on the market for almost two decades. The A4 is unquestionably the superior vehicle, but it is also the most expensive. With the word Premium in the title, you'd think it'd be expensive. When comparing the TLX to a premium vehicle such as the A4, the A4 may generate some more boxes on the list that the TLX may not tick. Both vehicles provide a unique experience.

Final Verdict

Acura attempts to join a market dominated by Germans with the new TLX by delivering something distinctive. Acura must think outside the box if it is to capture a portion of this market. However, the Acura TLX is not a terrible alternative if you want to save that extra $5,000. If you want to try something fresh and distinctive in this sector from a foreign manufacturer, go with the new TLX sedan.
