Overview

The 2017 Audi A7 is nearly identical to last year's model, with only minimal revisions for 2017 for a starting MSRP of $68,800. The 3.0-liter supercharged six-cylinder engine remains unchanged while the S7, RS7, and RS7 Performance tuned variations of the 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine. Even "Carwow' has experienced that "it is quieter than the BMW 6 series and steering is nice and light". Check out more on this video.

Buying Advice

The base trim on the Audi A7 is probably the most of value for money option. The standard list of features includes a lot of advanced creature comfort features and safety features. Since the engine and performance on all trims is identical, the premium plus trim is the one that makes the most sense to us.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

"Although it's not billed as the high-performance model in the lineup (the S7 and RS 7 fill that role), the A7 is an impressive performer ." - Edmunds

The 2017 Audi A7 introduces the Competition trim to its line up which adds 7 more horsepower along with some tuning to the chassis as well as minor updates to the styling. The base 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine puts out 333 horsepower and helps the A7 get from 0-60 mph in just 5.2 seconds. The Quattro AWD system is standard across all the configurations of the 2017 Audi A7.

The 2017 Audi A7 is available in three trim levels. The entry-level Premium Plus trim starts at around $68,800. The Competition trims start at $76,550, while the Prestige trims start at $71,350. The anticipated five-year costs for petrol, insurance, maintenance, and repairs for the 2017 Audi A7 are around $34,400.

Features
9.9/10

We Recommend

The Audi A7's base trim is undoubtedly the most cost-effective option. Many modern creature comforts and safety features are included in the usual list of features. Because all trims have the same engine and performance, the premium plus trim is the one that makes the most sense to us.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The 2017 Audi A7 provides 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway making a combined 24 mpg. The Audi A7 is equipped with a 19.8-gallon fuel tank which is more than enough for most trips.

When compared to the rivals, the Audi A7 and the BMW 7 Series are neck and neck when it comes to fuel economy. The Genesis G90 is the least economical of the bunch with a combined 20 mpg but it does offer the most fuel capacity with a 21.9-gallon fuel tank.

Interior
8.0/10

“The A7's interior is thoughtfully designed and tightly constructed, with excellent materials quality. Subtle wood accents add to the premium feel along with subtle ambient lighting.”- Edmunds

The interior of the A7 is well-thought-out and well-built, using high-quality materials. The upscale sense is enhanced by delicate wood details and ambient lighting. From the knurled dials for the radio and climate settings to the leather steering wheel, everything you touch feels nice in your hands.

Quad-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and the MMI infotainment system with an 8-inch display, voice recognition, navigation, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, and a touchpad controller with handwriting recognition are included as standard features.

2017 Audi A7 Seating and Comfort

The Audi A7 has excellent seating for four people. The front seats are extremely comfy and ergonomically pleasing. Because of the dropping roofline, taller people may have a problem due to a lack of headroom. The situation in the back, on the other hand, is even more concerning, as legroom and headroom are both limited, especially when compared to rivals.

Both the Cadillac CT6 and the Genesis G90 have nearly equal front legroom figures, putting them at the top of the segment. The BMW 7 Series leads the back legroom sector with 44.4 inches of legroom, well ahead of the competition.

2017 Audi A7 Infotainment System

With a knob on the console and a pop-up dashboard screen, Audi's Multi-Media Interface (MMI) manages music, communication, and navigation features. Audi Connect, which features 4G LTE data connectivity with mobile Wi-Fi for up to eight devices, Google Earth data for the navigation system, and simpler Google search for POIs, is also available on the A7.

Key interior features on the Audi A7 include

  • 8-inch display
  • 7-inch driver info display
  • Leather upholstery
  • Multifunction steering
  • Sunroof

2017 Audi A7 Cargo Capacity

The Audi A7's boot has plenty of capacity thanks to its hatchback-inspired design. The large cargo area of 24.5 cubic feet will make airport runs a breeze and will compliment the GT aspect of the car.

Exterior

“The look from the front doors forward is almost exactly the same as the A6 sedan, which is handsome in its own right, but the fast rake of the roof at the rear creates a very sleek, fastback shape.”- The Car Connection

2017 Audi A7 Dimensions and Weight

From the outside, the Audi A7 is one of the more attractive vehicles. The automobile has a distinct fastback design with a sloping roofline that gives it a one-of-a-kind flair. With a length of 114.7 inches and a width of 196 inches, it isn't even close to the rivals' outer dimensions.

The BMW 440i is the longest and widest vehicle in the segment followed by the Genesis G90 and then at last by the Cadillac CT6 sedan.

Safety
9.0/10

The NHTSA and the IIHS have never tested the Audi A7 in a crash. With few major structural differences between the A6 and A7, we predict the A7 lineup's crash scores to be very similar to the A6's. The A6 receives a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA, the highest attainable. When equipped with the optional Driver Assist Package, the A6 is considered a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS. This package is also optional on the entire 2017 A7 lineup.

  • Driver and front passenger dual-stage airbags, front thorax side airbags, knee airbags, and Sideguard head curtain airbags
  • Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) in rear seats
  • Front passenger occupant detection for airbags7
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with secondary collision brake assist and traction control (ASR)
  • Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake pressure Distribution (EBD) and brake assist
  • Tire-pressure monitoring system
  • Electromechanical parking brake

Competition
7.0/10

2017 Audi A7 VS 2017 Genesis G90

The Genesis G90, like the Audi A7, is a good-looking sedan. It's more of a luxury sedan than a grand tourer, though. The interior quality is unrivalled, and the Genesis G90 really outperforms the Audi in terms of features, with more up-to-date features than the Audi. The car, however, struggles due to sluggish acceleration, and the engine feels underpowered.

2017 Audi A7 VS 2017 Cadillac CT6

The Cadillac CT6 is almost $10,000 cheaper than the Audi A7, and for good reason. Despite its tough and long-lasting exterior, the vehicle is no match for the elegant Audi A7. Both cars have similar power, but the Audi feels considerably better on extended rides. In a comparison of these two cars, the Audi A7 clearly takes the lead if money isn't an issue.

2017 Audi A7 VS 2017 BMW 7 Series

The BMW 7 Series is a capable grand tourer that excels on long stretches of highway. The chassis is superbly constructed, offering just enough variation to reach the appropriate blend of comfort and sportiness. The cabin is simple in true BMW design, yet it nevertheless has a variety of creature comforts and innovative innovations that are exclusive to it. The Audi, on the other hand, is still far more attractive both inside and out. Given the price difference, the BMW may offer better value for money, but this is entirely dependent on the buyer's choices.

Final Verdict

The Audi A7 is without a doubt one of the year's most attractive vehicles. The sloping roofline at the back end gives it a fantastic appearance. When it comes to driving, there isn't much to note, but it doesn't take much to do what it does best: eating miles on the highway on straight and clear roads. Overall, if you're looking for a vehicle that you can go on the road with, this is the vehicle for you.
