Overview

The 2017 Honda Accord gets no changes this year after receiving a mid-cycle refresh just last year. The only noticeable update is the availability of Honda's Sensing suite of driver assistance features for all the Accord models. The 2017 Honda Accord price starts at $23,345 including an $875 destination and handling charge. The 2017 Accord price hike is pretty minor too at just $265 over the previous model year

Featuring a 6-trim lineup of the Accord, the 2017 Honda Accord MSRP can be an expense of $23,345-$35,820 this season. Having said that, it simply translates to the fact that the range-leader 2017 Honda Accord Touring will cost you $12,475 more than the base Accord LX for enhanced specs and assets.

We Recommend

With plenty of trim options on offer, the 2017 Honda Accord EX trim is the one that we recommend going for. It gets plenty of additional features over the base LX and yet keeps the price in check.

The 2017 Honda Accord interior is handsome and makes use of high-quality materials. At 15.8 cu-ft of trunk space, it is also the most practical sedan in its class. On the safety front, the Accord is the holder of the "IIHS Top Safety Pick+" award and packs a decent list of safety technologies. Moreover, it has one of the second-best reliability ratings in its class. The Accord gets heavy competition from the segment leaders such as the Toyota Camry which leads in terms of reliability & frugality, the feature-rich Nissan Altima, and the sporty Mazda 6. Is the Accord a worthy buy? Read the article to find out.

2017 Honda Accord for sale

The Accord finance option begins at $314/month for a period of 84 months at 4.9% APR. The 2019 Accord lease deals start with a monthly subscription fee of $311 for a 36-month tenure and an annual mileage limit of 10,000 miles. A $2,200 down payment remains common for both offers.

For budget-oriented buyers, the used Honda Accord can be availed of with a base price of $1,500. Going for older model years like the 2014 Honda Accord could be a matter of $5,984 and Honda Accord 2014 can cost as much as $27,995 along with a listing of up to 1,623 in total.

Buying Advice

The EX trim is the much-preferred choice from the Honda Accord lineup. It adds a 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a moonroof, satellite radio, HD radio, push-button start, and a blind-spot monitor. The EX trim is so well-equipped with features that there is no need for opting for any optional packages.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2017 model has been updated with a new Special Edition trim that combines many of the most popular options into one model- Autolist

In the midsize sedan segment, the Honda Accord has always been one of the top players. It is loved by many American families because of its competitive offering. Both the engines provide sufficient power, a comfortable ride, and an excellent fuel economy for a daily commuter. Boasting as a family sedan, it offers the roomiest cabin with plenty of features in its class. With Honda Sense available on all trims, the Accord is one of the safest sedans in the market.

The Accord flaunts one of the lowest initial prices in its class. However, the true cost to own the Accord is in line with other midsize sedans in its segment. It costs an average of around $6,650 per year for its maintenance, repair, finance, depreciation, and fuel. It has also strong reliability ratings and stands above most of the cars in its class. The miles per dollar ratio of the Accord is estimated to be 9.61, which is one of the best in its segment.

The EX trim is the much-preferred choice from the Honda Accord lineup. It adds a 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a moonroof, satellite radio, HD radio, push-button start, and a blind-spot monitor. Honda used to punish entry-level buyers with bare-bones equipment offerings, but that’s no longer the case- Autotrader

With the addition of the new Sport SE trim. the total trim count in the 2017 Honda Accord is six. These include LX, Sport, Sport SE, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The Accord can be purchased as low as $23,345 for the base LX trim and it reaches up to $34,930 for the top-end Touring trim. An additional destination fee of $875 is applicable.

Two different engines and three transmission options are offered in the Accord while the FWD configuration is standard. Speaking of features, the base LX trim comes with limited but a decent list of features. The new Sport SE trim adds heated front seats, black leather seats with red stitching, and SE badges on them.

Fuel Economy
8.1/10

The 2017 Honda Accord delivers impressive fuel economy, and that's not just with its base 4-cylinder engine- The Car Connection

The Honda Accord is one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its segment. The fuel ratings are the best, particularly when paired with a CVT transmission. According to the EPA, it returns 27 MPG in the city, 36 MPG on a highway, and 30 MPG combined. If you get the Sport trim then that drops to 29 MPG combined.

If you get a manual transmission, things drop a little further to a combined mileage of 26 MPG. The more powerful V6 engine returns 25 MPG combined, which is still good considering the power it makes. The Accord is fitted with a 17.2-gallon fuel tank, owing to which it delivers a combined driving range of 541 miles. This reduces to 464 miles with the V6 engine.

Models 2017 Honda Accord 2017 Mazda 6 2017 Toyota Camry 2017 Nissan Altima

Miles (City/Highway/Combined; Miles) 464/619/541 426/574/500 408/561/459 486/702/594

The Nissan Altima beats the Accord to claim the title as the most fuel-efficient car in this segment while the Accord stands in second place. The Mazda 6 also has good fuel numbers for the power it makes but is slightly less than the Accord. On the other hand, the Toyota Camry is the least efficient, returning only 27 MPG combined.

2017 Honda Accord Seating and Comfort

The Honda Accord seats up to five people while its interior layout is minimalistic and functional. Cloth upholstery is standard but the EX-L and Touring trim add leather-trimmed seats. As far as comfort is concerned, both the front seats are exceptionally comfortable. They are heated and power-adjustable on higher trims. The steering is tilt and telescopic, which allows the driver to attain a comfortable driving position.

The rear doors open wide so getting in and out wouldn't be an issue. Where the Accord really excels over a wide variety of competition is in the back seat. It has plenty of head and legroom both front and back and that combination of quality and quantity is exactly what the Accord delivers. Adults are going to be very comfortable at the back. The rear-seat passengers also get a soft-padded center armrest with two cupholders.

The Mazda 6 offers slightly more rear legroom but lacks a bit of headroom. The Nissan Altima offers the least rear-seat passenger space in this competition. The front passenger space in the Toyota Camry is comparatively less than the Accord. Overall, the Accord has the roomiest cabin in this class.

2017 Honda Accord Infotainment System

A 7-inch touchscreen display is the main center house for all the infotainment functions in the Honda Accord that is standard from the EX trim. Lower trims get a 7.7-inch display that performs basic functions such as AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, etc. This system is paired to a 4-speaker stereo on lower trims while a sound system with 7 speakers is standard from the EX-L model.

The graphics may be crisp and easy to read but there's a little logic to the menu layouts. Honda's insistence on removing all the volume knobs from the Accord remains a sore point but the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the options list for the lower trims is a pretty decent offering. Smartphone integration is a standard feature from the EX trim onwards.

2017 Honda Accord Interior Features

The Honda Accord's cabin is feature-rich and hence, it is one of the top players in its segment. These features include:

  • Tilt & telescopic multi-function leather steering wheel
  • Push-button start
  • Remote engine start
  • Power front heated seats
  • Cloth & leather upholstery
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • 7.7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 4 & 7-speaker sound system
  • Voice recognition audio system
  • SiriusXM

2017 Honda Accord Cargo Volume

The Honda Accord offers a cargo capacity of 15.8 cu-ft., which is one of the best in its class. The EX-L, Sport and Touring models flaunt a reduced 15.5 cu-ft. of cargo storage. Nevertheless, it still remains a class leader in this field. Also, the rear seats come with spit-seat functionality, except for the base LX trim.

But there are some flaws in this trunk. You can't put two full-size suitcases side by side, sliding all the way to the seatback. That's because the wheels intrude the space. Also, Honda didn't provide any handle on the inside or slot to put your fingertip in the Accord. There are many other sources for interior storage in the cabin as well.

Models 2017 Honda Accord 2017 Mazda 6 2017 Toyota Camry 2017 Nissan Altima
Cargo Volume (cu-ft.) 15.8 14.8 15.1 15.4

The Accord is clearly the most practical sedan in its class while the Nissan Altima skips to second place and is slightly less than the Accord. At 15.1 cu-ft., the Toyota Camry offers a decent cargo space, which is on par with most of the cars in this segment but the Mazda 6 is the least practical sedan in this segment.

2017 Honda Accord Dimension and Weight

As the Honda Accord received a refreshed styling last year, there are no major updates this year. The bold chrome bar goes all the way from one headlamp module to other, with a large Honda logo in the center. LED DRLs and LED fog lights are standard throughout the range except for the base model. Also, only the top-end Touring trim gets LED headlights while the rest of the models come standard with halogen headlamps.

The Accord has the shortest wheelbase but that does not affect its rear-seat passenger space and the credit goes to Honda engineers. The Accord sits 5.8 inches from the ground, which is decent for a sedan. Speaking of wheels, they are 17 inches for low-end models and 19 inches for Sport and Touring trim. Coming to the back, you get a large chrome strip on the trunk lid and on the lower fascia. The LED taillights stretch from the trunk lid to the body.

The Mazda 6 has the highest ground clearance in this competition. Therefore, it is less likely for the vehicle to get its underbelly scraped. The Nissan Altima and the Toyota Camry share the same wheelbase, which is around 2 inches more than the Accord. As mentioned before, the Accord's rear-row feels more accommodating than the other two rivals.

2017 Honda Accord Exterior Features

Some of the noticeable exterior features of the Accord are mentioned below:

  • LED headlights, taillights and DRLs
  • LED front fog lamps
  • Chrome door handles
  • Dual exhaust chrome tips
  • Chrome grille
  • Rear decklid
  • Chrome window trim
  • 17 & 19-inch alloy wheels

Safety
8.9/10

The 2017 Honda Accord earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation- MotorTrend

The 2017 Honda Accord performed excellently in all the crash tests conducted by NHTSA and IIHS. NHTSA gave it a perfect 5-star overall safety rating while it earned the 'Top Safety Pick+' award from IIHS. The latter is considered the organization's highest accolade. Furthermore, it also received a 'Superior' rating for front crash prevention and an 'Acceptable' rating for headlights.

Honda has also installed six airbags in every Accord to protect the occupants from serious injuries. Standard safety features in the base model are very limited but the Honda Sense package is available for all trims. With great safety ratings and a decent package of driver-assist features, the Accord is surely a safe vehicle. Some of the safety features available in the Accord are:

  • Rearview Camera
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front & Rear Parking Sensors
  • Traction & Stability Control

Competition
8.0/10

2017 Honda Accord vs 2017 Mazda 6

The Mazda 6 is highly praised for its excellent agility although it makes as much power as the Accord. Moreover, it delivers such performance without hampering its fuel efficiency. In terms of passenger space, both the sedans stand at the same level but the Accord is ahead with more trunk volume. It's a tie between two sedans when it comes to safety ratings as both of them won awards from IIHS and also boast good safety features.

2017 Honda Accord vs 2017 Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is a true rival to the Accord. It makes few horses less than the Accord and yet, it shines on both performance tests. However, it is not best considered when it comes to fuel economy. The Camry's cabin offers similar space as the Accord but the Accord has a much nicer interior and more standard features. The Camry has earned the same safety ratings as the Accord but its top reliability is the real deal-breaker.

2017 Honda Accord vs 2017 Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima's power figures are less but its acceleration is better than the Accord. It is one of the competitors that use a CVT transmission like the Accord and hence, its fuel efficiency is even greater than the Accord. The Altima also has strong reliability ratings but lacks enough rear-seat space while its interior is also less upscale. With regards to safety, the Altima and the Accord stand together but the former's offers more safety features.

Final Verdict

It is a very tough battle in the midsize sedan segment but like a good server at a restaurant, the Honda Accord impresses quietly doing its job with zero drama. Besides its long list of features, the Accord has an efficient engine lineup that delivers enough power when needed. Also, its rear-seat accommodations are one of the best in the class. Depending on your tastes, there are certainly reasons to look elsewhere but if what you need is an all-purpose family sedan, the Honda Accord is an easy solution.
