Overview

Italians are known for their bespoke designs. Attractive cars, striking engines, luxurious cabins, and flashy performance are what they tend to prefer in exchange for heavy prices. Maserati Ghibli retrieves tons of attributes to an Italian thought process. A twin-turbocharged V6 engine coming standard suits their mid-size luxury sedan. Excluded from the crowded segment, its design sets it apart and ahead of its classmates. A more powerful 424 horsepower or 580 hp V8 engine makes the Ghibli a flamboyant vehicle. Comfortable seats, sports car-like elements, and accommodating prices the Maserati sends with Ghibli. Strategic chassis provides enjoyable handling around corners, where some competitor fails to attempt it. A premium-looking infotainment touchscreen and an array of standard driver-assistive and safety features compensate for Ghibli when it fails to derive the luxury and opulence required for the price. A rear-wheel drive model though impresses with stunning momentum.

Its contenders are Porsche Panamera, the Mercedes-AMG E53, and the Audi A7.

Buying Advice

Modena is the best trim to go for. Though, if one fanatically wants Ghibli under $85k, then GT is a suitable choice. Though the car is priced so high. Many of the mid-size luxury cars often start from $55k. But spending around some thousands of dollars for Modena brings an enormous upgrade in power. Wood trim, a large cupholder, and automatic emergency braking (standard on GT), are some minor upgrades. But it also cumulates all the standard features of GT like a 10.1-inch infotainment system, soft-closing doors, full-speed adaptive cruise control, and many more.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The ambitious Maserati provides no announcement for the 2023 year generation. The 2023 Ghibli will be a carrying-over model of last year, where it made several bifurcations into trim levels over 2021 Maserati Ghibli. Its contenders are Porsche Panamera, the Mercedes-AMG E53, and the Audi A7.

Features
7.0/10

Maserati has bifurcated Ghibli into two trims. The GT is an entry-level variant, while Modena is the elder brother. Ghibli Trofeo is reviewed separately. GT proposes a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that makes 345 horsepower, while Modena sends 424 horsepower output. Heated and power-adjustable front seats, sunroof, soft-closing doors, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, power trunk access, keyless entry with push-button ignition, 19-inch wheels, full-speed adaptive cruise control, 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, blindspot intervention, parking sensors, wireless charging pad and much more to count on base GT.

Engine and Performance
9.3/10

A 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 engine empowers the Maserati Ghibli. It does so by giving rise to 345 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, Ghibli GT is run on an RWD architecture. Another powertrain comes with the Ghibli Modena which proposes 424 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. Pairing with the same 8-speed auto, Maserati brings it RWD by default giving the option to upgrade to an AWD system. With the latter version, it can rush a 0-60 mph mark in just 4.5 seconds, though some are even faster. A quarter-mile distance can be run in 13.2 seconds. Driving manners are impressive. The sedan is fast and quickly responds to asked questions. Tremendous steering response is communicating and fulfilling. Though BMW M5 is even more motivated. Easy transmission shifts are buttery and propel a nice understanding. With the standard engine, throttle response is gentle for class, but Modena sends a true appreciation with upscaled power and performance. City drivings are good. Though lower seating positions can create issues when dealing with speed bumps and potholes. Taking it to the highways, let out its true potential. First gear ratio of 4.71 goes straight to 1.28 till the fifth and melts to 0.67 till the last gear. The car takes 3.32 seconds to get reversed.

Mercedes AMG E53 is the fastest mid-size luxury sedan. When comparing Porsche with its rivals, no other vehicle can be as expensive as Porsche. The same thing happens here as Porsche Panamera entitles to be the most expensive sedan on the market. 2023 Maserati Ghibli price stands at a contending position. Audi A7 is the most affordable mid-size luxury sedan that thrusts a nicer acceleration than both Ghibli and Porsche. Maserati Ghibli's 0-60 figures are the highest in-segment, that does not justify the price it wears. Though Maserati Ghibli's hp is better than Audi's and Porsche's. The 2023 Panamera top speed tops the table, while Ghibli top speed sits just next to it.

2023 Maserati Ghibli Ride and Handling

Ride quality does not properly cope with the segment of luxury cars it belongs to. Though seats are fulfilling and prosperous. For the sake of performance, the sedan forgets about the level of comfort and luxury needed for the car. It is sharp and precise. Gliding effortlessly on turns, ensures a thrilling and enjoyable riding adventure. When counting with twists and turns, seats hold you back elegantly. The sedan does not possess a much of body roll. With the stylish design, the car carves a turning diameter of 38.4 ft– far better than a few enemies, still lacking behind Audi A7. Exciting chassis ensures smooth and composed driving experiences. Double wishbone suspensions on front wheels are not as stiff as some others. It profits a comfortable and less nervous feeling on the bumpier road as the car is connected to the ground. It also allows for greater control over the camber, caster, and roll center. Meanwhile, multi-link suspension fitted on the rear enables the car to bend more and provide a precise handling experience. Maserati sends three drive modes to Ghibli. Auto is for day-to-day drivings or it suitable for you to go office. In this mode, a good combination of comfort and efficiency is provided. Increased Control and Efficiency (I.C.E.) mode focuses on saving fuel but also makes sure the controls and performance are barely compensated. Sport mode is the spirited mechanism. It strengthens the performance, sharpens the steering, and fetches a sound throttle response. Standard 19-inch wheels with P245/45YR19 wheels.

2023 Maserati Ghibli Braking System

Flawlessly functioning brakes are saviors in emergency braking circumstances. They are well-tuned and show sufficient pressure to bring the sedan to a stop. Besides that, Ghibli also maintains several standard features. Standard automatic emergency braking warns if a front impact is imminent and applies the brakes if you don't respond in time. The vehicle's steering is adjusted to keep it centered in its lane with the help of an automatic lane-keeping system. Blind-spot intervention automatically steers the car back into its lane if you try to change lanes while a car is in the vehicle's blind spot.

The most affordable luxury sedan, Audi A7 is the heaviest vehicle on our list. Maserati curb weight is the least weighted vehicle. Mercedes AMG E53 is just two pounds lighter than A7. Despite weighing more than Ghibli, Porsche Panamera stops way better and faster. On the front as well as rear wheels, Mercedes-AMG E53 shows the largest braking calipers. They certainly help it stop competitively and are even better than a few sedans. Rear wheels of Audi and Porsche are adorned with equally fractioned brakes. Taking curb weight and brake caliper sizes of Maserati Ghibli into account, an educated estimation pretends that it stops the fastest in comparison.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

Maserati Ghibli sedan is a fuel sucker. It does not guarantee you compelling mileage numbers. The robust twin-turbocharged engine provides good power but lets you roam around fuel stations several times a month. GT earns a combined mileage of 20 mpg–showing 18 city and 25 highway. When done with 21.1 gallons of fuel capacity, city miles come out as 379.8. On the highways, it scores 527.5 while the combined range results in 422 miles. Modena scores the same mileage with the RWD system, while with Q4, city mileage reduces by one mpg concluding to 17 mpg.

Mercedes AMG and Audi A7 are the most efficient luxury cars on market--depending on the preference of driving. Audi scores extra mpg on highways, while Mercedes is extra in the city. Porsche and Maserati show identical mpg, though Ghibli earns one mpg on highways. Mercedes AMG E53 offers the highest range on any luxury car under $90k. Maserati Ghibli range is the lowest in the segment. Despite low mpg, Porsche Panamera offers a better range than Audi A7, all credit goes to the biggest in comparison fuel carrying capacity.

Interior
9.3/10

Inside the sedan Ghibli, the cabin does not frame the car as a vehicle of the luxury class. It is decent and up to the mark. Though the layout has not introduced a nice structure but is entrusted more towards bringing several controls near to the driver’s hands. High-quality materials connect several parts and components of the interior. Doors open enough large, that a normal size person does not ask for any extension. Taller people have issues surfing in and out of the cabin. Rear door panels provide a gently qualified material embossed. They source power operating windows, and some storage space for small-sized bottles or newspapers. Front door panels are accountable for the same functionality, but they also boast switches for seat adjustments. Heated front seats are comfortable and reliable on long distances, while second-row seats are cramped. With Modena, 12-way power adjustable front seats are rendered. A vague-styled dashboard is the part of the cabin arena, we are not in favor of. It is uncluttered and holds and is made of nice quality material. Four AC vents, two of which two are employed around the center infotainment touchscreen. A 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections. The Heated and power tilted and telescopic steering wheel promotes several controls and the Maserati logo at its center. Small-sized center armrest holding a door-like mechanism opens to access storage underneath. Limited controls, a wireless charging pad, rotary knob for center touchscreen, and gear selector round of things.

Front row seats of Mercedes and Audi are equally spacious and fetch approximate dimensions for legroom. When it's a matter of second-row comfort, Mercedes steps ahead of Audi. Maserati Ghibli and Panamera’s interior dimensions are not available, but on the front row, both are equally airier. Porsche Panamera's cargo space is equal, while the Audi A7 has the highest. Maserati Ghibli trunk space closes next to the Porsche Panamera.

How intuitive is the 2023 Maserati Ghibli Infotainment System?

A 10.1-inch center-placed touchscreen is the root cause of all the infotainment services. It supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections. Screen configuration is suitable and it nourishes appraising haptics. A navigation system, SiriusXM Satelite radio, and a re-skinned version of Google's Android Automotive interface are allotted with it. An eight-speaker audio system is standard, but shoppers can opt for two premium sounded stereo systems. One is a 10-speaker Harman Kardon system, and the other is 15-speakers Bowers and Wilkins audio setup. Few controls are within reach.

A glimpse of the infotainment system–

  • 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • Navigation system
  • SiriusXM Satellite radio
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • 2 12V DC power supply
  • Speed compensated volume control
  • Steering wheel controls
  • Integrated roof antenna
  • Radio data system

Exterior
9.3/10

No matter if it could not prove itself to be a part of a luxury car community from ithe inside, the exterior design lets other vehicles stay jealous and demotivated. A strong and curvaceous design grabs people's hearts with ease. An easy yet appealing design aesthetics sends it ahead of its competition. A sloppy and curvy hood inclined towards the ground makes a nice face-like structure. Muscular character lines over the hood go Maserati Ghibli's sexy style. The elongated hood contains a twin-turbocharged V6 engine underneath it. Front LED headlights look like angry eyes and the front grille mounting the Maserati trident completes it like gritting your teeth. A low front spoiler contains some air intakes and parking sensors for confined pathways. Similar to the front, the captivating side outlook presents a very formal and elegant profile. A sloping roofline collides with the rear portion beautifully, leaving no mark of cutting edges. Body-colored door handles and blacked-out window trims go well. Two-toned outside rearview mirrors are power folded. Soft-closing doors chant luxury phenomena. Standard 19-inc wheels fractioned with tires of dimension P245/45YR19. Though shoppers can opt for 20 or 21-inch wheels. Provided with nine exterior shades, we prefer its Blue Nobile Pearlescent Tri-coat. The rear end is very stylish and sends a power trunk access, cool headlights, Maserati letters, Ghibli badging, four visible exhaust tips, and parking sensors mounted along.

Safety
3.0/10

Ghibli has offered numerous driver-assistive and safety features on the standard. During parking, parking sensors alert you to obstacles that aren't always visible in front of or behind the vehicle. The adaptive cruise control maintains a predetermined distance between the Maserati and the vehicle in front up to and including a complete stop. In tight parking situations, the surround-view camera system gives you a top-down view of Ghibli and its surroundings.A lane-keeping system helps the vehicle remain in its lane with minor steering corrections.

Salient features of safety system–

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Standard adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode
  • Dual front side-mounted airbags
  • Front and rear head airbags
  • Airbag occupancy sensor
  • Child seat anchor
  • Rear door child safety locks
  • Stability control
  • ABS and driveline traction control

Competition
6.0/10

2023 Maserati Ghibli vs. 2023 Porsche Panamera

Porsche is expensive, but do bring a close power and torque output. With less cash, Maserati looks way more fashionable and eye-catching. It is also a bit faster, despite the minutely lesser top speed. Porsche sends a good-looking and well-structured cabin format, but the infotainment system is not user-friendly. Ghibli has much to offer with the same cargo space.

2023 Maserati Ghibli vs.2023 Mercedes-AMG E53

Internal affairs of Mercedes are settled very beautifully with supremely comfortable seats and a bunch of legroom in the second row. Outer expressions of Ghibli surpass Mercedes. On the other hand, E53 AMG has a huge jump in power and torque output, though lesser top speed strangulates its performance. With more standard driver aids in Ghibli, both cars do not plan complementary maintenance.

2023 Maserati Ghibli vs. 2023 Audi A7

The German manufacturer sends Audi A7 as the most affordable luxury sedan one can buy. With standard AWD system. A 7-speed automatic transmission in Ghibli, Audi is composed of a dual-clutch seven-speed. A well-polished and refined interior along with impressive fuel economy is something given with A7. Flamboyant exterior and good standard features promote Ghibli.

Final Verdict
7.5/10

Probably not. There are some other options available on the market. Though it offers a bunch of lucrative features like the most stylish exterior, gentle momentum, a bunch of standard features, responsive infotainment, relaxed front seats, and good cargo space to consider it. In addition, there are some down points like cramped rear seats, less luxurious interior than rival, and a bit sluggish acceleration. Crazy for Porsche? Panamera can satiate your wants if you can pay above average price for it. Want a car more luxurious than Ghibli? With less money, the Mercedes E53 AMG provides a huge leap in power with maintaining the luxury DNA. Or searching for a car more like to suit your professionalism? Audi A7 retains the same for you.
