Overview

The 2017 Nissan Armada is a full-size SUV that sets the benchmark for utilitarianism in this segment, with a powerful 390 hp 5.6L V8 engine, impressive ride quality, and an imposing exterior layout. Reintroduced for the year, after being sidelined for 2016, Nissan majorly revamped the Armada on all fronts. For sale at a price range of $44,900-$57,590, the 2017 Armada comes in three varied trim structures with two drivetrain options for each. With a better-than-average reliability rating, the 2017 Armada has been devoid of major problems and has had no recalls thus far.

2017 Nissan Armada Buying Advice

With the feature list in mind, the trim we recommend is the 2017 Armada Platinum trim, which is a good pick for most shoppers, despite the price difference of almost $8000 from the SL trim. Further, the latest advanced driver-assistance tech and also the captain's chairs are only available as standard with the Platinum trim. It might not be the worst idea in the world to look for a Used Nissan Armada, as you might save much more on opting for the 2014 Armada or the 2015 Armada variants. Also, going for the 2018 Armada would not be a bad idea, given that, apart from a few feature changes, it is practically similar to the 2017 MY.

Capable of towing 8500 lbs, the full-size SUV also has a decent gas mileage offering. Known for its array of safety features and stunning exteriors, the 2017 Nissan Armada is set back by its obsolete infotainment offering, and a dated interior look. The rivalry gets a tough time competing against the Armada, The 2017 Chevy Tahoe offers a bespoke interior that goes unmatched in this segment and the 2017 Toyota Sequoia has a fine-tuned drive experience to offer.

2017 Nissan Armada for sale

The 2017 Nissan Armada starts off at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $44,900 for the base SV trim, Stepping up on both the feature and price front is the SL trim, which is priced at an MSRP of $49,650. The top-tier Platinum variant builds upon the previous trims feature list and offers plenty more safety features as standard for a competitive price of $57,590. The average list price of a Used 2017 Armada ranges from $25,000 to $29,900, depending on various other factors, such as the vehicle's condition, mileage, features, and more. Also, the projected true cost to own the SUV for a period of 5 years sums up to $29,083.

Buying Advice

Of the three Armada trims, the SL is the best esteem. Its starting cost of $49,650 is still keeping pace with some class rivals, and there are alternative bundles you can get that let you include the greater part of the features (other than the commander seats) that come in the top of the line Platinum show. At the end of the day, the SL gives all of you the advantage of the Platinum trim for less cash.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Priced at an MSRP range of $44,900-$57,590, the 2017 Nissan Armada offers three trims in its line-up. It gets only a single-engine offering, a 5.6L V8 engine. However, it facilitates two drivetrain options each, an RWD and a 4WD for each trim, making it six trims. The powertrain is capable of churning out 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque.

The 2017 Armada doesn't stop with those phenomenal engine specs, it goes ahead to deliver a fine acceleration timing of 6.5 seconds for the 0-60 MPH sprint. It also surprises every onlooker with a towing capacity of 8500 lbs and its impressive exterior front. The Armada is also a very good safety offering and has a fine reputation to back the same. More than anything, it is a value for money offering.

Buying Advice

If price is a constraint, then we would recommend you go in for the 2017 Nissan Armada SL trim, you could avail it at a bargain for within 50 grand. Else, if budget isn't a constraint, the Platinum trim would be our recommendation, as building on top of the SL trim, the range-topping Platinum variant adds various other premium features including 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, rear-entertainment system, and also captain's chairs as standard.

The 2017 Nissan Armada is offered in three trim levels, the price range of which starts from just under $45,000 all the way up to $60,500. All the trims come equipped with a common powertrain- a 5.6L 8-cylinder engine, capable of putting out 390 hp. Further, all three Armada trim levels come with two drivetrain options, a standard offered RWD and an optional 4WD. Also, the seven-seater SUV has a 7-speed automatic transmission paired to the potent engine setup.

The base trim SV comes at an MSRP of $44,900 for the RWD, and it is priced at $47,800 for the 4WD. It is equipped with basic interiors and minimal features. The mid-range is the SL, priced at $49,650 and $52,550 for the RWD AND 4WD respectively. The high-end range is the Platinum range, equipped with all the top-end features, priced at $57,590 and $60,490 respectively for the RWD and 4WD drivetrains. While the base SV trim comes with the basic feature list, it also gets an optional Driver package. Furthermore, Nissan also treats the SL trim with an optional sunroof and Technology package.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

The standard 2017 Armada returns 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, which is lower than many other large SUVs. - Cars.USnews

With fabulous performance and acceleration, on one hand, the 2017 Armada by Nissan manages to offer an average performance in the aspect of fuel efficiency. The EPA ratings of the 2017 Nissan Armada are 14 miles to a gallon in the city, 19 miles per gallon on the highway, and combined reading of 16 MPG.

Models 2017 Nissan Armada 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe 2017 Toyota Sequoia
MPG (city) 14 16 13
MPG (highway) 19 23 17
MPG (combined) 16 19 15

Since its competition has a lower engine capacity, they are able to provide higher fuel efficiency. However, this is true only for the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The Toyota Sequoia despite being equipped with a lower-powered engine, trails behind the rest in terms of outright fuel efficiency.

Interior
8.0/10

Engulfed in top-quality materials, the 2017 Nissan Armada has an alluring interior. However, the consistency of the quality isn't maintained throughout. The infotainment offering seems to be obsolete as compared to the design and styling of the remaining cabin. The Armada Platinum trim offers the best interiors in the class, as it comes equipped with chair seats and a fancy center console for the second row. This makes the Platinum trim a seven-seater. Further, the Armada offers interior color options between charcoal and almond, which is of course in leather. The Platinum trim is also offered in a tan shade.

With the ability to accommodate eight individuals, the Nissan Armada is at par with its competitors. But, just like any other SUV, its third row of seating is a bit cramped. However, the first and second rows are pretty generous. Offering 41 inches plus legroom and 63 inches plus shoulder space, the Armada is certainly spacious. The Chevrolet Tahoe compensated for the luxurious first row of seating with a slightly smaller second row and a poor third row. The 2017 Toyota Sequoia offers a comparatively smaller interior cabin, it isn't outrightly cramped but its dimensions are relatively smaller.

The cargo room offered by the 2017 Armada is just about 16.6 cubic feet, with all the seats in use. The maximum it can offer is a space of 95.1 cubic feet, this is with the second and third row of seats folded. While the 2017 Tahoe offers 94.7 cubic feet as its maximum cargo space, the 2017 Toyota Sequoia offers a maximum cargo room of 120.1 cubic feet.

Dimensions and Weight of the 2017 Nissan Armada

The new Armada rides a wheelbase that is 2.1 inches shorter than the outgoing model, yet it is 1.2 inches longer, 0.6 inches wider, and it sits 2.2 inches lower. It is the longest SUV among its rivals and is sufficiently wide and tall as well. But still falls 1.2 inches short of height compared with an SUV like Toyota Sequoia SR5, which is 77.0 inches high.

Against the given competition, the 2017 Chevy Tahoe is the lightest vehicle, it is also the shortest in length and height, it further has the least ground clearance in class. The 2017 Toyota Sequoia is the heaviest amongst the three cars, but its length is lesser than that of the Armada. However, the height of the Toyota Sequoia is the best, measuring 77 inches.

  • A full-size spare Automatic LED headlights (low-beam only)
  • Roof rails

Safety
9.0/10

For reasons unknown, the 2017 Nissan Armada hasn't been tested by either of the safety authorities, that is the NHTSA or the IIHS. So, the only factor that we can depend upon is the past records of the brand Nissan, and it has built a strong reputation for its safety offering. Several other cars from the brand have been at the forefront of their segments for the safety offering that they provide.

An example would be the 2017 Nissan Altima that bagged the top safety pick from IIHS. Even the customer reviews and other car rating agencies place the Nissan Armada in their good books. The 2017 Armada comes with a vast list of safety features to offer, they are as given below:

  • Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front airbags with seat belt and occupant-classification sensors
  • Driver and front-passenger seat-mounted side-impact supplemental airbags
  • Roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags for outboard occupant head protection for all three rows
  • Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS)
  • LATCH system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children)
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS)
  • Child-safety rear door locks

2017 Nissan Armada vs 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe LS

The 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe is a magnificent vehicle that has an opulent interior, the best in class probably.  Offering higher seating, clad in fine soft-touch material, delivers a significant deal of road command. A notch lower on power, but the Tahoe has the finest interiors, it offers features like Apple CarPlay, remote cell phone charging, and an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hot spot, none of which are offered in the Armada. The SUV has responsive steering and conveys a calm ride, and it likewise shows signs of improved fuel efficiency than the Armada. The Tahoe is a superior all-around vehicle than the Armada, and the value distinction isn't over the top, so for most purchasers, the Tahoe is the better wager.

2017 Nissan Armada vs 2017 Toyota Sequoia SR5

The 2017 Sequoia offers almost similar engine specs and configs, it is a bit lower though. This is also the case in terms of fuel efficiency. In terms of safety and ride quality, it is a head-on collision. The Toyota offers a phenomenal drive experience while the Armada has top-notch safety. Priced at an MSRP of $45,560, it is slightly costlier than the Nissan Armada. The Toyota delivers only 7400 lbs of towing capacity, this is due to the lack of power, the Armada is way ahead in this aspect, measuring 8500 lbs. Overall, we would recommend the Armada as it is a value for money offering that even considers your safety to a great extent.

Final Verdict

The 2017 Nissan Armada is truly a decent SUV that gets eclipsed by its competitors. In spite of the fact that the Armada gives a powerful engine, has a high towing limit, and an upscale inside, it additionally has undersized first-and third-row push seats, lesser than average cargo limit, and an out-of-date infotainment framework. It's certainly worth thinking about the Nissan SUV while you're auto shopping, yet other extensive SUVs convey more to the table. So while the Armada is a decent SUV, it presumably shouldn't be at the highest priority on your rundown, unless you are looking for what it delivers.

              Family Friendly

Pros - ["The 3 rows", "The miles I get per gallon"]

Cons - ["I love my car", "Wish I had a TV in it"]

Don't need to say to much great family car. It's very spacious oh I love the V8 engine. It's very easy to maintain maintenance and it's not to expensive to fix. My kids favorite part about the car is the back row.
