Fuel Economy
8.0/10

The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 comes with more power and a higher weight. So it’s clear that it would require a larger fuel tank to offer a comparable range as the previous model. The 2021 model comes with a larger 22.2-gallon fuel tank which is expected to help it deliver a better range. The official fuel efficiency figures have not been released yet, but we expect them to be similar to the 2020 model.

The 2021 S 580 is expected to offer similar fuel efficiency as the 2020 S 560 model. With a 22.2-gallon fuel tank capacity, The Porsche Panamera is expected to offer a better range with its larger fuel tank and good efficiency. The Flying Spur has the largest fuel tank capacity but suffers at range because of its low fuel efficiency. The Quattroporte loses out on range owing to a smaller fuel tank capacity and lower efficiency.

Interior
7.0/10

The Mercedes-Benz Maybach S 580 is filled up to the brim with all the creature comforts you would ever ask for in the luxury sedan segment. The dashboard is minimalistic and holds a rather large 12.3 -inch driver information display which is crisp and legible. A 3D enhancement of the digital instrument cluster can display numerous functions with 3-dimensional and shading effects. The center console holds a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen OLED display and it is essentially a control center for all the functions and relaxing controls that the S 580 has on offer. The interior 64-color active LED ambient lighting ensures that there is a color for your every mood.

The seats are trimmed in premium Nappa leather upholstery and the front seats get 12-way power adjustment with memory function. The Energizing kinetics feature for the front seats makes minute adjustments to the seat with respect to lumbar supports which helps to reduce driver fatigue. The rear passenger seats get a massage feature and are heated plus ventilated in nature. The front cabin energizing comfort feature coordinates climate control, ambient lighting, audio, cabin fragrance, plus front seat massage, heating, and ventilation to offer 10-minute sessions for relaxation.

The 2021 S 580 offers the least cargo capacity as most of the space is given to interior second-row reclining seats for better comfort. The Porsche and Maserati have not disclosed their interior dimensions, but we bet it won’t beat the S 580 and Flying Spur. Both these vehicles are focused primarily on comfort and luxury. Whereas the Panamera and Quattroporte focus on performance and dynamics. Some of the standout interior features of the S 580 are:

  • Power Executive rear seats with memory
  • Multicontour rear seats with massage
  • Heated and ventilated rear seats
  • 64-color active LED ambient lighting
  • Quad zone climate control
  • Panoramic Sunroof

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2021 S 580 comes with all the bells and whistles for your entertainment and information. It comes with a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen center console display which controls all the functions of the infotainment system. The display will offer crisp resolution and response as it’s an OLED panel. It also offers an MBUX High-end Rear Seat Entertainment system which comes with two 11.6 inch high-resolution touchscreens mounted to the back of each front seat.

As expected, the connectivity features are ample with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, etc with WiFI being an optional extra. The Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound system promises to offer an unforgettable musical experience with a total of 30 high-end speakers and 1750 Watts of total output. The system also employs the Advanced NFC technology that makes it even easier to enjoy your compatible phone or another mobile device in your Mercedes-Benz. Some of the standout features of the infotainment system are:

  • 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen central multimedia display
  • Steering wheel with Touch Control Buttons
  • MBUX Augmented Video for Navigation
  • Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound system

Exterior
7.0/10

The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 comes with all new updated styling and its sleek exteriors are enough to mesmerize you. It is unlike any other Mercedes Maybach cars you might have seen. The front fascia looks elegant with a long hood and an all-chrome grille with Maybach branding adds to its royalty. The LED headlights with integrated DRLs are sharper and smaller in size but blend well with the elegant styling.

The sides are a plain affair and devoid of any visual drama. The extended and sloping roofline gives a coupe-style nostalgia. The rear looks sporty with sleek LED taillamps and dual chrome-tipped exhausts just add to a more modern design. The 20-inch Maybach Exclusive Forged wheels merge well with the elegant design and give it a more luxurious look.

Safety
7.0/10

The 2021 S 580 is fully loaded with all the latest features and a luxurious cabin. How can it afford to lose out on safety?. Being one of the most intricately crafted vehicles from the house of Mercedes-Maybach, it embodies the latest safety features that money can buy. All of the safety features are standard and you don’t need to pay extra for any of them.

It comes with unique safety features like Eye-tracking enhancement to ATTENTION ASSIST to check on the driver and alert him if tries to take a nap while driving.  The Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is essentially a radar-based cruise control that helps to mitigate a collision while cruising. The Adaptive Highbeam Assist can automatically activate the high beams when camera technology detects there are no vehicles within range ahead of you. With many active and passive safety features on the S 580, you can rest assured of your safety. Some of the standout safety features of the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 are:

  • Active Brake Assist
  • Active Steering Assist
  • Crosswind Assist
  • Active Blind Spot Assist
  • Exit Warning Assist
  • Evasive Steering Assist
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist
  • Active Lane Change Assist

Competition
6.0/10

2021 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 V/S 2021 Porsche Panamera Turbo S Executive

The 2021 S 580 is focused more on sheer luxury and comfort. The Panamera Turbo S Executive offers more performance and can be used as a tracking tool. The handling of S 580 is of no match in comparison to the Porsche Panamera which can easily play around with the laws of physics.

2021 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 V/S 2021 Bentley Flying Spur

In terms of luxury and comfort, both the competitors are equally matched. However, for more interior space and the latest in-cabin tech, the S 580 is the clear winner. The Bentley also comes at a more extravagant price tag. Styling can be subjective but the sleeker design of the S 580 looks better in our opinion.

2021 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 V/S 2021 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo

The Maserati Quattroporte is a more performance-oriented sedan here and must be self-driven to have some fun around the twisties. The S 580 is mostly destined to be chauffeur-driven and cannot offer the same level of dynamics and aural fun as that of the Quattroporte. The Maserati cannot match the finer handcrafted details and comfort levels of the Mercedes-Maybach S 580.

Final Verdict

The 2021 Mercedes Maybach S 580 is definitely not for the faint-hearted in terms of its pricing and exclusivity. The features that it offers are the latest in the market and some are even unheard of before. It surely has the quality, personality, and luxury to give all the ultra-luxury sedans a run for their money. We would just like to say “ All be ready to hail the new King” in the ultra-premium luxury sedan segment.
