Overview

The Chrysler 300 is a fullsize sedan launched in the year 2005. The Chrysler 300 has been in its current form since 2011 and we expect the 2023 model year to be a carryover one with no or minor changes. It is expected to retain the same muscular design with wide fenders, bold body lines, and the iconic large front grille. The car is expected to be launched at an MSRP of $33,740 for the base touring trim and going all the way up to $45,350 for the 300S V8 trim.

Buying Advice

We would recommend the Touring L AWD trim which has an MSRP of $39,490. It offers many features as standard. We would also recommend the SafetyTec plus package at an additional cost of $2,395. For a more enthusiastic driving experience, you could go for the 300S V8 option.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Chrysler is equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine on the base trim and a V8 option also is available. There is also an option of AWD and RWD drivetrain setup on some trims and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. It competes against the likes of the Toyota Avalon, the Nissan Maxima, and the Dodge Charger. Let us find out where the Chrysler 300 stands in terms of the competition.

Fuel Economy
6.9/10

Chrysler 300 is not a fuel-efficient car with its bigger engine and performance due to which it takes a hit in the fuel efficiency department. The Chrysler gives an MPG of 19 miles in the city, 30 miles on the highway, and a combined figure of 23 miles. It gets an 18.5-gallon fuel tank which helps in giving it a max range of 555 combined. The V8 trim of the Chrysler 300 returns 16 MPG on the highway, and 25 MPG in the city, giving it a combined MPG of 19.

The Toyota Avalon returns the best MPG in the segment with an MPG of 22 in the city, 32 on the highway and a combined figure of 26 miles but the smaller tank in this segment gives it the lesser range. The Dodge Charger and Chrysler share similar MPG figures and also have the exact fuel tank capacity. Both give a range of 352 miles in the city, 555 miles on the highway, and a combined figure of 425.

Interior
7.0/10

The Chrysler 300 has an all blacked out interior that offers an ample amount of interior space. It also gets bucket seats in the front with a cloth finish. It also gets an option to add a Nappa leather seat. The Touring L trim gets a heated seat and steering wheel. The 300S V6 and V8 trim get a sportier seat and steering wheel. The Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger almost share identical first-row interior dimensions but in terms of the second-row space the charger edges out the Chrysler 300 in terms of headroom and shoulder space. The Nissan Maxima offers the best front seat legroom in the segment but falls short on the second-row spaciousness. In terms of the second-row space, the Dodge Charger clearly scores well compared to the competition. Dodge takes the lead in terms of cargo capacity also, with a 16.5 cubic feet and the Chrysler is a close second with a capacity of 16.3 cubic feet.

Some of the key interior features available with the 2023 Chrysler 300 are:

  • Cargo Compartment Dress-Up
  • Speed-Sensitive Power-Locks
  • Automatic-Dimming Rear-View Mirror
  • Passenger Assist Handles
  • Illuminated Front Cupholders
  • Passenger Assist Handles

How intuitive is the 2023 Chrysler 300’s infotainment system?

The 2023 Chrysler 300 gets an 8.4-inch touch screen display with proprietary Uconnect software, which is intuitive and user-friendly. It offers a lot of convenience in the interior cabin with voice command support. In addition to the voice commands, it also adds a wireless 4G connection with support for Navigations. SiriusXM traffic plus and SiriusXM travel link come with a subscription of 5 years. The standard 9-speaker Alpine system also adds to the overall driving experience.

Some of the most notable infotainment features available with the 2023 Chrysler 300 are

  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Voice commands
  • Type-C USB ports
  • SiriusXM subscription
  • WiFi Hotspot

Exterior
7.0/10

The Chrysler 300 is a really muscular car and the exterior dimensions rightly justify it. The car has a muscular and aggressive design thanks to the enormous front grille. Add the 19inch or 20inch wheels and the car looks sleeker. The design has aged well over the years and a design change is long overdue. It weighs around 4267 lbs and has a total length of 198.6 inches. It is wider by 75 inches and has a total height of 58.5 inches. The ground clearance on the Chrysler is 5 inches which gives it a very low-down seated feel. The wheelbase is 120.2 inches.

The heavy curb weight and longer wheelbase of the Chrysler do affect the handling and maneuverability of the car but it stays grounded on highspeed offering better stability. In terms of exterior dimensions, the Dodge Charger and Chrysler share similar measurements. Both are the longest, tallest and highest in the segment. Nissan Maxima is the smallest by a few inches in the segment.

Some standout exterior features include:

  • 17-inch Alloys
  • Automatic headlamps
  • Power heated mirror
  • Body-colored door handles
  • Solar absorbing and acoustic laminated windshields.
  • Signature front black grille

Safety
8.5/10

The Chrysler 300 like all modern-day sedans offers a host of safety features. The NHTSA has given an overall safety rating of 4 stars. We have observed that this is mainly due to the performance in the Frontal impact crash test in which it receives only a 4-star rating. In the side impact crash test, front seat safety is also rated at 4 stars. All cars in the segment except for Nissan Maxima have similar crash test ratings. The Chrysler is equipped with 8 airbags and many other safety features like electronic roll mitigation, electronic stability control, speed control, etc come as standard. Additionally, the Touring L trim and above gets a SafetyTec package which furthermore enhances the safety of the car.

Other standout safety features include:

  • ParkView® Rear Back-Up Camera
  • Security Alarm
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring Display
  • Hill-Start Assist
  • Advanced Multistage Front Air Bags
  • Sentry Key® Theft Deterrent System

Competition
6.0/10

2023 Chrysler 300 vs Toyota Avalon

The Toyota Avalon offers slightly better performance than the Chrysler 300. It also offers the best in class MPG and edges out Chrysler by a good margin. The Toyota also has the reputation of offering better reliability than the Chryslers. Chrysler 300 scores in interior space and affordability. We would have normally suggested the Toyota Avalon but Toyota has announced that they are discontinuing the Avalon hence we would recommend the Chrysler 300.

2023 Chrysler 300 vs Nissan Maxima

The competition gets tougher for the Chrysler against the Nissan Maxima as it offers better performance, better 0-60, better quarter-mile mark, and top speed, and better MPG even though slightly pricer than the Chrysler 300. The Nissan Maxima comes at the top in our comparison and we would recommend it over the Chrysler 300.

2023 Chrysler 300 vs Dodge Charger

Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger share similar engine configurations with almost identical performance figures. They both also share similar interior and exterior dimensions and have a comparable MPG figure but the Chrysler 300 offers a mile more in the city compared to Charger. The choice between these two models would be purely based on the exterior styling and brand inclination and we prefer to stick with the Chrysler 300.

Final Verdict
7.5/10

The Chrysler 300 has muscular styling which appeals to most of the crowd but the company has been sticking to this design with minor tweaks for many years now. The design we feel has aged well and needs a refresh soon. In terms of performance, the Chrysler offers a lot of power and high-speed driving stability. The interior cabin is spacious and is among the best in the segment even though the interior feels a bit outdated it does the job. We feel the Chrysler 300 gets stiff competition from the Nissan Maxima which we feel is the better overall car in our comparison. It offers better MPG, better acceleration, and is more comfortable to drive. The Nissan Maxima also ranks better in terms of overall reliability even though the base trim starts at a few dollars pricier than the Chrysler 300 we would suggest the Maxima over the Chrysler 300.
