Overview

The 2022 Ford F-350 belongs to the third generation SuperDuty model released in 2017. With its powerful and recognizable presence on the road, the F-350 SuperDuty pickup trucks are made to satisfy people’s hunger for powerful engines and high towing plus payload capacities. Whether it's long vacation trips with a heavy trailer or daily business tasks, the 2022 F-350 SuperDuty will not disappoint you.

Buying Advice

Even though you will have to dig deeper in your pockets for the 2022 Ford F-350 XLT Regular Cab, it is worth it. With the better infotainment features, more comfortable seats, and more options, the XLT trim of the 2022 Ford F-350 SuperDuty Regular Cab is a better deal than the base XL trim.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 Ford F-350 is available in just two trims, namely XL and XLT, and is equipped with three engine options and two different drivetrains. Therefore, you can select the right combo easily in the small Regular Cab trim range. The 2022 Ford F-350 has a tough fight with mammoths like RAM 3500 Regular Cab, and it also is in battle with T-rexes such as Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Regular Cab and GMC Sierra 3500HD Regular Cab.

Features

There are only two trims available on the 2022 Ford F-350 SuperDuty Regular Cab. Both trims are available with three engine options and two drivetrains. The base trim has all the basic features and has a starting price of $36,465, while the top trim XLT costs around $41,200. Some standard features given on the base trim are HD vinyl seats, 40/20/60 folding front row seats, manual tilt and telescopic steering column, 4.2-inch central non-touch display, 4-speaker sound system, 17-inch wheels, seat belt reminder, front armrest, rear window defroster, and rear privacy glass.

We Recommend

Even though you will have to dig deeper in your pockets for the 2022 Ford F-350 XLT Regular Cab, it is worth it. With the better infotainment features, more comfortable seats, and more options, the XLT trim of the 2022 Ford F-350 SuperDuty Regular Cab is a better deal than the base XL trim.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

SuperDuty or heavy-duty trucks, as the name suggests, are used for their high towing capacity and muscle power. Therefore, it is obvious that they will possess a big and powerful engine which will return a poor fuel economy. We can expect similar fuel efficiency figures from all the trucks in the competition. However, the numbers are not available for making any kind of concrete comparison between the rivals.

The standard fuel tank capacity of the F-350 regular cab is 34 gallons with 6.2 L and 7.3 L engines, but if you select the 6.7 L diesel engine, the fuel tank capacity gets reduced by 5 gallons. Meanwhile, the biggest standard fuel tank belongs to the twins Silverado 3500HD and Sierra 3500HD. The 3500 Tradesman has the smallest fuel tank, but you can get the extra fuel tank as well, which sums up its fuel tank capacity to 60 gallons.

Interior
9.3/10

The interior has had no major changes since last year. The F-350 has heavy-duty vinyl upholstery in medium earth grey color on the base trim, while cloth upholstery is given on the higher XLT trim. The floor is covered in black vinyl and color-coordinated cloth is given in the cabin. Black Molded Polyurethane steering is given on both trims. The F-350 regular cab is not stingy in terms of headroom and legroom. You can find hard plastic in a lot of places in the cabin. The front armrest with storage and two cup holders are given for you to store your Starbucks and Dunkins.

The heated seats are available on the XLT trim. Front seats have 4-way manual adjustment with manual lumbar support which can be upgraded to 8-way power adjustment on the XLT trim. The seats can fold into a 40/20/40 pattern for convenience and seats three adults comfortably. Some standard creature comforts given on the F-350 regular cab are manual tilt and telescopic steering wheel, day and night rearview mirror, two power outlets, manual temperature control, intermittent windshield wipers, and manually adjustable head restraints.

On the other hand, the 3500 Tradesman has the least spacious cabin and provides the smallest trunk capacity in the competition. Lastly, the F-350 regular cab has the biggest shoulder room, and it also provides a modest trunk capacity of 78.5 cu-ft. Key highlights of the interior features are:

  • HD vinyl upholstery
  • 40/20/40 split-folding seats
  • Manual temperature control
  • Manual tilt and telescopic steering column
  • Cloth upholstery (available)
  • secondary glove box (available)

Few other standard infotainment features offered on the base trim are a four-speaker sound system, Wifi-hotspot, Bluetooth, one USB port, and voice recognition. On the XLT trim, one more speaker gets added to the unit. The highlights of the key infotainment features are:

  • 4.2-inch central screen (available)
  • 8-inch touchscreen (available)
  • 4-speaker sound system
  • SiriusXM (available)
  • Two extra USB ports (available)

Exterior
9.3/10

The appearance of the XL and XLT is different because of some features such as the XL trim has a black bar-style grille, whereas the XLT trim comes with the two-bar bright chrome bar style grille which is standard on the XLT but optional on the XL. A high airflow grille is optional on both trims which provide better air intake. At the front, the F-350 regular cab has halogen headlights as standard while halogen fog lights are optional.

The black front and rear bumper can be replaced with optional chrome steel with a front-grained top cover and black lower air dam on the base trim which makes the muscular exterior look of the F-350 even more profound. Manual outside mirrors with manual folding can be upgraded with power and heating features for comfort. The 2022 F-350 stands on the 17-inch Argent-Painted Steel wheel. However, 18-inch Argent-Painted Steel wheel and 18-inch sparkle silver-painted cast aluminum wheels are optional on the base trim. The XLT trim has optional 18-inch Chrome PVD Aluminum wheels.

As 3500 HD WT and Sierra 3500HD belong to the same parent company, the similarities in their exterior profile are pretty evident as both share the exact same dimensions. Meanwhile, the F-350 is the shortest truck with the smallest ground clearance in the competition. The Sierra 3500HD is the longest truck which will make the ride smoother, and the high ground clearance will make sure bumpy roads pose no threat. The 3500 Tradesman is the least wide truck with the shortest wheelbase which affects the interior space but maneuvering will be slightly easier. Key highlights of the exterior features are:

  • 17-inch argent-painted steel wheels
  • 18-inch sparkle silver-painted cast-aluminum wheels (optional)
  • Halogen fog lights (optional)
  • LED roof clearance lights (optional)
  • LED box lighting (optional)
  • Pickup box tie-down hooks
  • Two front tow hooks

Safety
7.0/10

Coming to the features, the F-350 regular cab is equipped with all the standard safety features such as tailgate-mounted backup camera, trailer sway control, SOS crash alert system, passive anti-theft system, and Mykey feature to ensure safer driving for teens. There are other safety and driving assistance features that are part of the Ford Co-Pilot 360 degree technology suit, but the majority of them are optional. An ultimate trailer tow camera system with pro trailer backup assist is given on both trims for $1,655. Key highlights of such are given below:

  • Lane-keep assist
  • Hill descent control
  • Forward collision warning

2022 Ford F-350 SuperDuty vs 2021 RAM 3500

As far as power figures and quality of interior are concerned, the 2022 RAM 3500 has the edge over Ford F-350 SuperDuty. However, if we consider the payload capacity, towing capacity, and cabin space, even with a slightly higher price tag, Ford is a more viable option to go with between the two.

2022 Ford F-350 SuperDuty vs 2021 Chevrolet 3500HD

The engine output of the Chevrolet is higher than the Ford F-350, and both have just 100 lbs of towing capacity difference. However, the payload capacity of the Ford F-350 is 408 lbs higher than what’s offered on the Chevrolet 3500HD. That said, in the end, the scale tilts towards the Chevrolet 3500HD which has a more spacious cabin and higher ground clearance.

2022 Ford F-350 SuperDuty vs 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD

The 2022 GMC Sierra 3500HD has all the features and capacities similar to the Chevrolet 3500HD. Its payload capacity is 189 lbs less than the Ford F-350’s payload capacity. The GMC 3500HD also has a higher price tag, but with a bigger fuel tank, cargo capacity, and better performance, it is certainly an alluring option against the Ford F-350.

Final Verdict

There is no doubt that the 2022 Ford F-350 Regular Cab is an overall good package. On one hand, it has a well-organized interior, a decent number of features, aggressive exterior styling, and more importantly, higher payload and towing capacities. On the other hand, rivals give tough competition with better performance, interior, and cargo space. That said, the Ford F-350 regular is the best choice if you are tight on the budget, but if you can stretch it further by a few thousand dollars, the GMC Sierra 3500HD is a better choice to go for.
