2022 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Gallery 2022 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Trims and Prices

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has been completely redesigned with a starting price of $37,645, an increase of $3,290 over the 2021 model year base price. In addition to that, the new 389 hp 3.5L twin-turbo V-6 has replaced the older 381 hp 5.7L V-8 that can further be upgraded to the 437 Hybrid V-6 variant. Even the towing capacity has been surged by 2,000 lbs keeping the scale at 12,000 lbs while the payload prowess goes up to 1,940 lbs that is 200 lbs extra over its predecessor. However, the Tundra CrewMax continues with the same trim lineup of the SR5, Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition.

With such advanced powertrains, coupled either with RWD or 4X4, the 2022 Tundra now offers a fuel economy of up to 20 MPG. Moreover, it introduces itself with a 5.5-foot bed along with a 6.5-foot long bed configuration as well in the 2022 model year. Apart from these, the lease deal for this full-size pickup truck comes to be $491/month for 36 months with a signing payment of $3,141. Regarding its release date, it will be available for sale at the dealerships by December 2021 against the market shares of the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Buying Advice

The Limited trim appears to be the most logical and cost-effective one in the production line. The leather upholstery along with power-adjustable seats and Premium Audio keeps the interior engaging and comfortable. The added Dynamic Navigation unit further helps it to have easy tracking on one's mobility. Therefore, it is advisable to opt for this trim with a 4X4 layout that will cost 49,450 at max without any additional packages.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

"The 2022 Toyota Tundra Is the First Truly Competitive Japanese Full-Size Pickup." - Hamodia

The all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra receives major updates including the more powerful 389 hp 3.5L twin-turbo V-6 and 10-speed automatic transmission. Even the body frame has been designed from the ground up increasing the overall structural integrity and impact resilience. Its strength comes with economic practicality as the 2022 Tundra is capable of returning a fuel mileage of 20 MPG despite having a towing capacity of 12,000 lbs. Its trim level commences with SR5 with an expected starting price tag of $40,115 that can go up to $51,040 for the Platinum trim.

In terms of finances, the Toyota Tundra CrewMax has a destination fee of $1,695. While the resale value might remain within the ballpark of $29,000 to $32,000 as per 5-year ownership. The insurance charge, on the other hand, estimates to be almost $7,855 for years meaning $1,571 yearly. One of the major benefits that comes inherent with this pickup truck is that its maintenance cost remains as low as $790 for the same time period considering its rough applications. In addition to that, one can also choose, depending on budget, between the RWD and 4X4 layouts where the latter costs $3,050 extra.

Buying Advice

The 2022 Toyota Tundra CrewMax will continue with the 4 trim lineup that starts with SR5 at an expected price of $40,115. The Platinum trim charges a speculated investment of $51,040 with which it is empowered with Power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation and a 12-Speaker JBL Premium Sound System. Not just that, even other features such as the Dynamic Navigation and Memory functioned leather-wrapped steering are also available in this trim. The 1794 Edition comes in the last at $51,040 that has been given assets such as the 20-inch wheels and Perforated Leather Upholstery over the basic 18-inch and cloth fabric respectively.

As per comparison, the 2022 Tundra CrewMax has 2 MPG more fuel efficiency than the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. Simultaneously, the Tundra also has a 2.4-gallon bigger fuel tank that gives it an edge in its range practicality by 100 miles.

Interior
8.0/10

"As with the outside, Toyota drastically reworked the Tundra's interior styling. The neatly designed steering wheel is a high point." - Edmunds

The interior of the 2022 Toyota Tundra CrewMax has undergone a refreshing change. It gets perforated leather upholstery with power-heating and ventilation for the front seats in the Platinum and 1794 Edition. 12-way driver's and 6-way passenger's power-adjustable front seats are also bolted inside the cabin for the two higher trims, however, the power-tilt leatherette steering remains exclusive for the 1794 Edition.

But the 2022 Tundra CrewMax does lack impressive interior in the SR5 trim as it gets no more than fabric-trimmed seats, manually adjustable seats, and single-zone air conditioning. Even the cargo space and passenger volume seem to be a little compromised. On the brighter side, it can be integrated with an array of new cameras for multiple tow trailer angles and panoramic roof.

This gap reduces to 2-inch for the front row legroom for the aforementioned. The Ford F-150 also falls short in its cargo capacity by 10 cu-ft against the likes of the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. Considering the infotainment system, the Tundra features the new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and upgradeable 14-inch touchscreen.

The musical rhythm is echoed with the standard 9-speaker Audio Plus in the SR5. This unit can be switched to Premium Audio and 12-Speaker JBL premium sound system in the Limited and Platinum trims respectively. Also, the Dynamic Navigation comes embedded for improved and precision tracking from Limited trim onwards. Some of the other notable features have been listed down:

  • LED headlights with DRLs
  • Sunroof
  • Bold new grille with integrated light-bar
  • LED taillights

"The 2022 Tundra makes occupants and other vehicles safer with its standard safety features." - The Car Connection

The 2022 Toyota Tundra CrewMax has not been marked any safety rating by NHTSA and IIHS. But the newer platform is more rigid and has better structural integrity than the 2021 model year. So, one can expect improved ratings compared to the previous model's 4-star NHTSA and "Average" IIHS ratings. To assist such structural strength, it gets Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 and other below mentioned safety features:

  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane keep assist with lane tracing
  • Automatic high beams
  • Road sign assist

2022 Toyota Tundra vs 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Toyota Tundra has better performance figures than the Silverado 1500 without compromising its fuel economy and range reach. However, when it comes to cargo space and seating spaciousness in both rows, the Silverado takes the lead. Therefore, both are equally desirable in their practicality pursuit.

2022 Toyota Tundra vs 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

The Toyota Tundra manages to outclass the Sierra 1500 in its power surge and subsequent range coverage. But it sports a less roomy cabin as compared to the Sierra 1500. The Sierra 1500 follows the same lead of its corporate sibling Silverado 1500. Hence, Tundra and Sierra 1500 remain at par with each other.

2022 Toyota Tundra vs 2022 Ford F-150

Definitely, the most famous in this segment is the F-150 for its towing capacity, relative space management and practical fuel efficiency. There is hardly anything left to be achieved in the Ford masterpiece. Hence, F-150 gets the preference over Tundra quite easily.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Toyota Tundra CrewMax is a much more enhanced and capable pickup truck than its predecessor. Be it spaciousness, towing capacity, performance, or fuel efficiency, it has taken big strides over its previous models. All of these bolster its buying stature. However, Ford F-150 is another worthy pickup truck on offer as well that can be checked out alongside the Tundra.
