Overview

The 2020 Audi Q7 has been redesigned this year along with an enhanced infotainment system and standard entertainment package across the Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim lineup, starting at an MSRP of $54,800. And it comes spirited with 248 hp 2.0L Turbo I-4, and 335 hp 3.0L V-6 powertrains that can pump a 0-60 MPH of up to 6.7 seconds and a peak range of 562 miles at its best.

2020 Audi Q7 Buying Advice

The Audi Q7 2020 is pretty much similar in its stance to its successors right from performance to opulent interior except for safety upgrades. The thrust at the wheel and the relative dynamic control are also at par with the 2021 Q7 and Audi Q7 2022. So, one can go for the 2020 MY.

The 2020 Q7 has been pitted against the Lincoln Aviator, Volvo XC90, and Land Rover Discovery. And its interior luxury along with a towing capacity of 4,400-7,000 lbs and a cargo capacity of 69.6 cu-ft further bolsters its overall value proposition.

2020 Audi Q7 for sale

The used Audi Q7 can be availed of at a starting listed MSRP of $4,000. Also, a destination charge of $995 is going to be there in your expenses.

Buying Advice

The base trim with the 55 TFSI engine is the sweet spot for luxury and performance. While the available optional packages offer more than enough features in case you need a couple of features standard on the higher trims.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Though the 2020 Audi Q7 has got the class of a premium SUV but it surely lacks the quality and reliability just like its 2021 sibling which scores a disappointing J.D power rating of just 72. However, its upgrade in the interior technology with a better sound system and infotainment control does compensate for the reliability loss and so do its varied power performances and dynamics.

The 2020 Q7 can be a pretty hefty SUV to own as per standards, considering a repairing charge of $8,258 and maintenance of $11,478-$11,987 for your purist throttling of the Premium, Premium Plus Q7, and 2020 Q7 Prestige. In addition, you will have to have a depreciation of up to $33,229 across its trim lineup after 5 years of ownership.

Features
8.0/10

Costing $54,800, the 2020 Q7 Premium trim brings in a Cold Weather package and a Convenience package. The former adds heated rear seats and steering wheel while the latter adds wireless smartphone charging, blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert system. The range-topping Prestige, having an MSRP of $71,200, gets a Luxury package that can be opted to add 18-way power-adjustable front seats with massage, heating, and ventilation, leather upholstery, and Alcantara headliner. Optional upgrades include all-wheel steering, a night vision camera, and 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Spend a little extra amounting to $57,200 and you land on the Premium Plus which gets a Warm & Cold Weather package offering heated and ventilated front seats, quad-zone automatic climate control, power rear sunshades, and 12-way power-adjustable front seats. While the Premium Plus Q7 2020's Driver Assistance package has adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, intersection assist, traffic sign recognition, and active lane keep assist.

Fuel Economy
7.5/10

The Audi Q7 I-4 engine has been engineered to be 20 MPG efficient in the city which increases to 25 MPG on the highways and 22 MPG overall. This allows it to travel a distance varying from 450 miles in the city and 562 miles on the highway with its completely filled 22.5-gallon fuel tank. However, one has to settle for even lower fuel efficiency of the 18/23/20 MPG when the 335 hp V-6 is employed in city/highway/combined situations respectively.

The BMW X5 even though being the most powerful and with an inline-6 under its hood is the most efficient in the city beating the Q7 by 2 mpg. While out on the highway the GLE 350 and the XC90 are the most efficient beating the Q7 by as much as 4 mpg. When it comes to range the GLE 350 with a similar size gas tank as the Q7 offers the highest 450 miles and 608 miles from a tankful in the city and on the highway respectively.

Interior
9.9/10

"With its minimalist, contemporary design matched with loads of technology and excellent comfort and build quality, the Q7's cabin is a special place." -Car and Driver

The 2020 Q7 interior features a multitude of assets including the leather finish seats along with power heated convenience and ambient Interior Lighting. The option to step up to ventilated and massage function for the front row and power heating for the rear row has been kept intact as well just like the 4-zone automatic climate control as per trim level.

Exterior
7.0/10

"The 2020 Audi Q7 is perhaps the most German of SUVs: calculated and business-like on the outside, but sumptuous and functional within. We’ve awarded 7 out of 10 points for looks, amongst the best in its competitive set." -The Car Connection

The 2020 Audi Q7 wears an aluminum architecture all around, which helps in shedding a lot of bulk from its weight. This improves handling and engine capabilities. The side profile of the Audi Q7 gives it a very strong shoulder line with bulky wheel arches for that pumped-up look. Moreover, those 19-inch 5-arm-star design wheels and 20-inch 5-spoke-turbine design wheels on offer have been put on display for extending that premium finish altogether.

The Audi Q7 2020 looks rather sleek from the rear, an effect further highlighted by its double arrow-designed taillights. The dual horizontal exhausts inside a silver diffuser add to a powerful look. On the top, there are silver roof rails, which turn to black in the black optic package. The 2020 model gets a substantial update on the exterior and now looks more premium and aggressive than the last year's Q7. The standard headlights on the base trim are LED with signature DRLs which change to the Matrix LED headlights for the elder siblings.

The higher trims get full LED headlamps, which look drool-worthy. The proportions make this already big SUV look even bigger, and the road presence on this is imposing. Compared to the rival SUVs the Audi Q7 is longer and shares the longest wheelbase title with the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350. While in terms of width the XC90 is around two inches wider than the Q7 while the GLE 350 has a towering stance with 70.7-inches of height.

Exterior Features:

  • Sunroof
  • Hands-free power liftgate

Safety
7.0/10

2020 Audi Q7 is a big three-row SUV and for safety, Audi has been more than generous here as most of the features are standard, and only advanced driver-assist features have been reserved for higher which are nevertheless available on lower trims in the Driver Assistance package. As for the safety ratings, IIHS gave the 2020 Q7 the highest rating of 'Good' in all its six parameters except for the headlights where it was marked 'Poor'. Coming to NHTSA, it hasn't completely tested the 2020 Q7 but has rated it with 4-stars in the roll-over test with a risk of 15.7%.

Safety Features:

  • Lane departure warning
  • Rearview camera
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Forward collision warning w/ automatic emergency braking
  • Available Adaptive cruise control
  • Available Surround-view parking camera
  • Available Blind spot monitor
  • Available Rear cross-traffic alert

Competition

 2020 Audi Q7 vs 2020 Lincoln Aviator

The Audi Q7 2020 and the 2020 Lincoln Aviator are two prime luxurious 3-row SUVs with too much of jolt under the hood. The same is true for their interior convenience and technology. However, the Q7 lags behind the Aviator in some of the critical factors such as reliability index and performance figures. Hence, it has to be Aviator over Q7 Audi 2020 for now.

2020 Audi Q7 vs 2020 Land Rover Discovery

The 2020 Audi Q7 and the 2020 Land Rover Discovery are some of the SUVs that have got this supreme handling prowess and technology front. The cabin isolation and dampening insulation are also at par for both of them along with at par safety features. So, both are equally desirable.

 2020 Audi Q7 vs 2020 Volvo XC90

With better reliability, quality, and safety build, the Volvo XC90 easily outclasses the 2020 Audi Q7. Though Audi Q7 does have better performance but it does not stay as it is when it comes to interior comfort and overall interior ambiance and tech-ends. So, it has to be Volvo XC90 which should be given preference over 2020 Q7.

Final Verdict
8.1/10

In the end, Audi’s largest SUV is quite a simple car, offering the best of luxuries in the most premium of packages. It isn’t insanely expensive, which is a huge point in its favor, but it isn’t too distinctive at the same time as well. So, one can go for it while keeping Lincoln Aviator and Volvo XC90 in mind too.
