Overview

Toyota’s best-selling sedan was last refreshed in 2015 and the 2017 Toyota Camry carries over largely unchanged. However, the higher XLE and XSE V6 trim levels now gain better infotainment features and Qi wireless smartphone charging system. The 2017 Toyota Camry price starts at $23,070 and an additional $895 is levied as destination charge across all the trim configurations. The base price for the 2017 model year remains the same as the previous model year.

Featuring a 4-trim lineup of LE, SE, XLE, and XSE, the 2017 Toyota Camry MSRP can be an expense of $23,965-$27,205 this season. Having said that, it simply translates to the fact that the range-leader 2018 Toyota Camry XSE will cost you $3,240 more than the 2017 Toyota Camry LE for enhanced specs and assets.

We Recommend

Looking at the list of features, fuel economy and an msrp of $24,735, the 2017 Toyota Camry SE would suffice to the needs of most buyers.

The Camry 2017 is equipped with a 2.5-liter engine with 178 horsepower. The optional 3.5-liter V6 engine outputs 268 hp. The 2017 Toyota Camry interior offers good comfort and a trunk space of 15.4 cubic feet. With just three recalls and 111 complaints till date, the 2017 Camry problems must not be very significant in nature. With a gas mileage of up to 27 mpg (combined), the fuel efficiency is not the best in the segment. The 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid offers up to 40 mpg (combined). The Camry offers better power output than the Chevrolet Malibu, better rear seat legroom than the Honda Accord and higher ground clearance than the Hyundai Sonata.

2017 Toyota Camry for sale

The 2017 Toyota Camry LE can be leased for a term of 36 months with $331/month and $2,397 due at signing along with an annual mileage limit of 10,000 miles. The same model can be financed for a term of 48 months for as low as 3.49% APR with $509/month and $2,397 down payment. The final APR can be lower or higher depending on the credit score profile of the customer, term duration and additional offers.

For budget-oriented buyers, the used 2017 Toyota Camry can be availed of with a base price of $12,000. Going for older model years like the 2016 Toyota Camry could be a matter of $9,785 and Toyota Camry 2015 can cost as much as $8,500 along with a listing of up to 23,754 in total.

Buying Advice

.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2017 Toyota Camry is a comfortable commuter car, good for a family when you look at the practicality side, courtesy of the LE and XLE trims. If you want something sporty look for Camry SE and XSE trims, which add an athletic stance to the sedan. Next-decision to make is the choice of powertrain, 4-cylinder, V-6, or gas-electric hybrid. Then, adding a few feature options is your choice, select from the numerous color options available and you have a sedan with no reliability issues. The Toyota Camry is America's best-selling car in the midsize car segment that includes strong competitors such as the Honda Accord, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata, and Subaru Legacy. Toyota refreshed the Camry recently in 2015, and this year's 2017 Camry model carries over largely unchanged.

Buying Advice

If you need a car for your city rides, office commutes, or long drives, the 2017 Toyota Camry has it all to offer. With its superior fuel economy and impressive performance, coupled with a luxurious interior and convenient handling, Camry beats its competitors any day. The 2017 Camry SE trim is the most recommended trim for any practical buyer. Its convenient features along with the sporty outlook do the trick. Also, if you want your Camry to have a little more power to it, you can always go for the 3.5L V-6 engine only on XLE or XSE trims.

Features
7.0/10

The 2017 Camry is available in four trims: LE, SE, XLE, and XSE. The Toyota Camry Hybrid is reviewed separately. The base Toyota Camry LE starts at an MSRP of $23,070 and comes with decent standard tech features worth the price. The Camry SE starts from $23,840 and adds a few performance features, like a sport suspension and a tilting-and-telescoping steering wheel with paddle shifters.

For a stronger available V6 engine, you’ll need to step up to the Toyota Camry XSE or XLE. The Camry XSE V6 trim starts at $31,370 MSRP and adds wireless smartphone charging, dual-zone automatic climate controls, and leather seats with faux-suede inserts. The Camry XLE is the most luxurious trim with most amenities. It comes with all-leather upholstery, upgraded interior trim, and a chrome-tipped dual exhaust.

According to EPA, the 2017 Camry's base model returns 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. With the available V6 engine, fuel economy drops to 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. That's average in the midsize class.

The Hybrid Camry is the most efficient of the lot, it is rated at 43/39/41 mpg. Though the Camry's natural competitor, the Honda Accord manages 27/37/31 mpg with its 4-cylinder engine, and 21/32/25 mpg with a V-6.

Interior
8.9/10

The 2017 Toyota Camry sedan comfortably seats five people. The back seat provides generous head- and legroom, offering ample space even for taller passengers. Toyota offers high-quality materials in the cabin, which are styled to modern standards. Cloth upholstery and a power-adjustable driver’s seat are standard while upgrading to higher trims offers leather upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and heated front seats are available.

The center stack is extremely well organized, with intuitive buttons and knobs to control the car’s infotainment and climate-control systems. The Camry’s dashboard controls are large, clearly labeled, and easy to use. To add to it, there's faux leather seating trim on the edges of the seat on the SE. The LE has Cloth seating trim on the edges

Inside is where Camry comes alive. With an overall spacious interior, Toyota Camry has plenty of interior storage and sound-deadening. It is at the epitome of versatility and cargo storage.  Though some competitors offer comparatively modern and upscale cabins, Toyota is quick to update Camry year after year.

Lined up with its peers, the Camry does better in a few aspects, offering more rear legroom and shoulder room. There’s also greater rear headroom for the Camry. However, it is evident that the Sonata has a lot more space than the Accord or the Camry, and is a good choice. But even then, the convenience features of the Camry, coupled with its safety record make up for a great buy and is definitely worth considering.

2017 Camry Infotainment and Technology Features

Buyers will get the Entune 6.1-inch touchscreen audio and infotainment system with a CD player, auxiliary audio input, USB port, voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming, and six speakers. Toyota's infotainment system works well with voice recognition while the physical buttons and knobs are easy to use and placed ergonomically.

Available features include a moonroof, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, navigation, a larger 7-inch touch screen, satellite radio, HD Radio, a 10-speaker JBL audio system, and smartphone app integration.

2017 Camry Cargo Capacity

There are 15.4 cubic feet of space in the Camry’s trunk, which is the average trunk size for the class. You can fold down the rear seats for additional storage space. The Camry's low liftover height makes it easy to load in the trunk, also, a wide opening eases it further.

There’s enough space in the trunk to back 6 pieces of luggage. This holds true for all cars in this segment. With the rear seats folded, you can pack as many as 15 bags in your Camry. There’s no considerable difference except the Chevrolet Malibu, where you can push in as many as 17 bags.

Exterior
8.9/10

Toyota refreshed the Camry for 2016, giving it a slightly more modern and aggressive footprint, highlighted by its larger grille upfront and more pronounced character lines at the rear. Though the Camry isn't outright sporty or uninteresting, it garners mixed reviews from the buyers for its styling. In the face of new competitors such as Accord and Altima, Toyota Camry is not a visually appealing car.

In terms of size, the 2017 Toyota Camry is narrower and shorter than many other family sedans, though the margin is a few inches or less in each case. Like all mid-size sedans, the Camry is easy to maneuver into parking spaces and through cramped garages.

While there’s no eye-catcher in the figures above, the Camry does well, marginally nonetheless. It has a much better ground clearance compared to its peers, being almost the same size. The Wheelbase of the Camry is an attraction, with each of the Camry trims offering enhanced wheel dimensions with a touch of fancy. The upper trims of Camry get handsome LED daytime running lamps while the side sheet metal flows front to rear, ending with a lip spoiler on SE and XSE models.

Let's see what the Camry has to flaunt on its body:

Safety
9.1/10

The NHTSA gave the 2017 Toyota Camry a five-star overall rating. IIHS awarded the 2017 Camry a Top Safety Pick+ designation, in addition to perfect scores across the five crash tests. All trims have a Star Safety system. This consists of Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Four Wheel Anti-Lock Brakes, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop Technology that automatically swings into action if the car senses an accident coming up. If you opt for the Camry XSE and XLE, a Technology package is an available option that adds a forward collision prevention system, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and a lane departure warning feature. A blind-spot warning system is also an available feature.

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • ABS And Driveline Traction Control

  • Airbag Occupancy Sensor
  • Rear Child Safety Locks
  • Forward Collision warning system
  • Blind-spot monitoring system

2017 Toyota Camry vs 2017 Hyundai Sonata

The Camry and Sonata are at the top of the midsize sedan segment. If you plan to haul passengers on a regular basis, note the Camry has more rear legroom, but the Sonata offers more overall passenger space. The Sonata will save you about $100 a year at the gas pump, but more importantly, the base model has a sticker price about $1,500 lower than a comparable Camry. The Sonata, in comparison, has a lower price, better fuel economy, and overall space including a slightly larger trunk.

The interior of the Sonata has a long way to go before it catches up to the Camry. The leather seat back-pockets, central armrest, bolster gripped steering and luxury seats will ensure all-round comfort in the cabin, something the Sonata can’t offer.

2017 Toyota Camry vs 2017 Honda Accord

The Accord and Camry have a lot in common – both vehicles come with base four-cylinder engines with comparable power and good safety scores – but for those who like a sportier driving experience, the Honda Accord is the better choice. You can get it with a six-speed manual transmission and either the base four-cylinder engine or the available V6 engine, which has slightly more horsepower and responsive handling that bests the Camry.

The Accord’s starting MSRP is about $700 less than the Camry’s. If you’re buying the Sedan for purposes other than a daily lap of your local motocross track, the Camry is the one to go for.

Final Verdict

The 2017 Toyota Camry is not only one of the best midsize sedans you can buy but is also one of the best-selling cars in the world. Available at an affordable price, the midsize car buyer will have every checkbox ticked with the Camry. Inside, there is ample space, comfortable seats, usage of high-quality material, and a functional cabin. Though the sedan lacks both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the infotainment system is pretty intuitive. The Camry excels in all the areas, and Toyota's evident reliability adds more weight to it being the first choice in midsize car segment.
