Overview

Porsche over time has perfected the formula for every vehicle that comes off its production line. They are stringent on the kind of changes that go into their cars and try to keep it relevant to the current and historical designs. Such is definitely not the case with the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe. The complete revamped design does garner attention with the fresh breath of air in the Porsche line-up.

It was unveiled in 2019 as a bid to keep Porsche in the game with the trend changing towards much more sportier utilitarians. With the car releasing in the last quarter of 2019 dubbed as the 2020 version let's see what the Cayenne Coupe has to offer.

Buying Advice

With a single trim on offer, the Cayenne Coupe simplifies buying decisions. The turbocharged V6 does an excellent job of purging the SUV through the roads as the bystanders look in awe.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Porsche likes to keep their heritage intact and not bring in many changes to the perfect vehicles. Therefore, it was a delight to receive the brand new Cayenne Coupe, which is the sportier version of the Cayenne, which we all know is a benchmark in the SUV territory.

Owned by the VW group, they have based the Porsche Cayenne Coupe on the MLBevo platform which it shares with the like of Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, and Audi Q8 to name a few. What's new and what's changed is a question that we just might have the answer to.

Features
8.0/10

As there is a single trim available for the Cayenne Coupe the list of standard features is extensive. Although, there are a few features that seem to be missing and can be added only via options.

We Recommend

We expect brands to realize that buyers look for a complete package rather than adding various options to make the vehicle feel complete. Same is the case the Cayenne Coupe, we advise the addition of Assistance Package to add features like Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control along with a heads-up display which would aid it in becoming the perfect daily driver.

Engine and Performance
9.3/10

The Cayenne Coupe houses the same engine its SUV sibling does. The 3.0L Turbocharged V6 is powerful enough to make the Coupe live up to its sporty looks. The engine sounds very similar to what the Cayenne SUV does. Porsche does break character by employing the V6 instead of the Boxer or flat engine it has made a reputation for.

The Porsche is comparable to Audi and BMW in this section with a similar engine capacity and horsepower. The Mercedes AMG bests out its opposition with its trademark handcrafted AMG engine.

Acceleration

The Coupe and the SUV don't have much difference in the powerhouse that is the turbocharged V6. But the Coupe has been designed to be more aerodynamic and more sporty. The Coupe can dash from 0-60 in just 5.7 seconds which is 0.2 seconds faster than the SUV.

Cayenne Coupe is digitally limited to a top speed of 150 MPH, which is more than what many people need and unquestionably beyond what a few people can fathom. In any case, the vehicle offers a quick push when the gas pedal is floored.

BMW proves its mettle in terms of acceleration leaving all the other competitors behind. The Merc, however, is just 2/10th of a second behind the X6. Porsche and Audi reach speeds of 60 miles at the same time.

Braking

Porsche has opted to source the brakes for the Cayenne Coupe instead of developing it themselves. This enables the Coupe to have the best in class brake components which are the Brembo Ceramic Coated Brakes. The brake rotors have 4 piston brake calipers that can control the SUV at high speeds.

The heavy frame of the Cayenne is well controlled by the brakes. They are capable and quick to respond on any feedback to the pedals. With assist features like ABS and Electronic brake assist as standard the braking power of the Coupe is commendable. Brake Assist sensors in the Coupe are not as flawless as one would expect, it is recommended for the driver to always have their guards up while driving.

The Audi Q8 deploys the biggest brakes out of all its competition but due to its heavy frame when compared to the Mercedes stops just 1 foot after the Merc. Due to the lack of available information, it becomes difficult to compare all the SUVs on the list.

Ride & Handling

Porsche has aced the specialty of giving a captivating driving experience like no other. Expanding on the wonderful driving elements of the Porsche Cayenne, the 2020 Cayenne Coupe has much more sporty gusto to offer.

The drive experience is further enriched due to the rear wheel steering which is equipped as standard. This makes it easier to park and turn in tight spaces along with attacking corners with much more enthusiasm.

Steering responses offered by the Coupe are furthermore incredibly clear and make handling it even better. The adaptable suspension system makes a stunning contribution in keeping the vehicle clung to the road at all times.

Fuel Economy
4.8/10

At the point when one is following through on such a superior cost, they do expect some practical sense alongside extravagance, or not. Taking into account that the Porsche Cayenne Coupe mileage is equivalent to the Cayenne SUV both these vehicles can not be considered frugal with the performance they have to offer.

The 2020 Cayenne Coupe offers good efficiency compared to others in the city and on the roadway rather than its rivals. The BMW X6 takes the competition with the most eco-friendly engine, followed by Porsche. Audi having similar configurations as the Porsche does lag behind occupying the last spot here while the Merc sits on the third.

Interior
9.3/10

Step into the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe and you won't perceive any change from the standard Cayenne. The interior has leather all around it which is premium quality hand-sewed leather. The center console houses the A/C vents and the 12.4-inch Touchscreen infotainment arrangement.

The steering wheel is adorned in leather and is rather pleasant to hold. Behind the steering wheel, the brand has held the signature Porsche dials with a combination of computerized and analog gauges.

The front seats are well-bolstered with ample support and comfort for long travels. They are also electronically adjustable providing the best seating position as per the driver's requirements along with the adjustability that the steering wheel provides.

Seating is quite agreeable and the rear seats do have some smaller windows which restrict the lighting. Getting in the rear seating arrangement, it's the same as the Cayenne SUV notwithstanding the slanting roofline. Presently, the key thing here is that the back seats have been brought down to make more headroom in the secondary lounge to acclimate to the inclining rooftop.

It is recommended to opt for the standard 2 seats in the rear. The third discretionary seating seat may have the grown-up situated in the middle seat face issues regarding the accessible headroom.  There is plentiful legroom in the back even with the front seat adjusted to the rearmost position.

All these utilitarians have ample space to seat at least 4 adults comfortably. Every brand apart from the Porsche is capable of seating 5 adults with a well-planned interior. Here the Porsche might be overshadowed by its competitors in terms of luxury and utility as well.

The features that adorn the interiors are:

  • 4-inch Touchscreen infotainment system
  • Dual-zone climate control with separate settings for driver and front passenger
  • 8-way Power-adjustable and heated front seats

  • Porsche Connect Services
  • LED ambient lighting
  • 40/20/40 foldable seats
  • Auto-Dimming rearview mirror

  • Analog clock on the dashboard
  • Two integrated cupholders in the front center armrest
  • Two integrated cupholders in foldable rear armrest
  • Bottle holder in each door panel front and rear
  • Floor mats

Infotainment System

There are no changes in terms of the infotainment set up in both the SUV and the Coupe. The 12.4-inch infotainment has a rather intuitive interface which is isn't as difficult to get acquainted with. The touchscreen framework doesn't give a haptic reaction which does make it difficult, however, the glass board controls do offer a haptic and visual criticism.

The default sound framework offers a tolerable melodic encounter however individuals who accept it as a need can move up to either the Bose Surround Sound System or the Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound System both of which are available as options.

Infotainment Features

  • A 12.4-inch multimedia infotainment display
  • Programmable Digital-Analog Driver Display
  • Apple CarPlay

Cargo Capacity

The sloping roofline does take a hit on the utility aspect of the Coupe. We did not have any complaints regarding the storage capacity of the  Cayenne SUV simply because of the ample storage. The Coupe is not as bad though one can easily accommodate 2 large suitcases along with 2 medium suitcases rather easily. The rear seats do fold to provide more storage space but they can't be folded all the way down like in the SUV version.

The Q3 is a behemoth in terms of storage capacity and takes the win here. The BMW follows suit with its rather large cabin and ample space all around. The Mercedes seems to be getting rather comfortable at the 3rd position now taking up this spot more times than often in our comparisons. Porsche fares the last here and has the least amount of storage space to offer.

Exterior
9.3/10

The Cayenne Coupe is a design marvel with the front like an SUV and the Coupe added to the rear. The design is much more sporty and has changes in the front fascia which differentiate it from the SUV. The front in other aspects remains unchanged.

The side view is where the Cayenne Coupe is in its full brilliance. The roofline slopes towards the rear and adds an alternate measurement to the vehicle. The rear doors are distinctive due to the sloping roof. Wheels are not quite the same as the Cayenne with the 20-inch rims as standard. From the sides, the sloping roofline does resemble a taller 911 towards the rear in more ways than it does an SUV.

The rear of the vehicle is the place the enchantment occurs. The raking roofline has 2 spoilers with one just above the rear windshield and the other sitting comfortably above the Porsche tag. The speed sensing spoiler is the highlight as it is the greatest spoiler ever fitted on a production SUV Coupe.

When contrasted with the Dual-Exhaust framework on the SUV, the Coupe features a quad-exhaust framework which exudes a considerably sportier look. The diffuser and different subtleties remain basically equivalent to the standard Cayenne.

Safety
8.0/10

Being a latest addition to the Porsche line up and getting classified in the luxury sports segment the chances of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe going through crash tests are slim. However, Porsche is one of the brands that has been more focused on passenger safety before the norms mandated manufacturers to do so. The number of autonomous features can be added on with the number of options available and we suggest the addition of Assitance Package as a must due to features like Lane Keeping and Traffic assist, Surround-view, heads up display and adaptive cruise control at the cost of $6,250. The chassis of the Cayenne Coupe is reliable due to the alloys of aluminum and steel which improve structural integrity.

Safety Features

  • Anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
  • Warn and Brake Assist System
  • Stability control
  • Dual Stage SRS airbags
  • Pretensioners
  • Integrated Porsche 4D-Chassis Control
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Porsche Side Impact Protection System
  • Engine immobilizer with remote central locking
  • alarm system with radar-based interior surveillance
  • ParkAssist (front and rear) with reversing camera
  • Door sill guards in Brushed Aluminum

Competition
6.0/10

 Porsche Cayenne Vs Audi Q8

Audi and Porsche are the two giants owned by the VW group and both these brands share a similar platform in these SUVs. With similar engines, these two SUVs are totally different in terms of performance and handling. The Porsche owing to its physical characteristics feels number and dynamic in handling with better performance figures.

The Audi is heavier and longer which makes it more fuel consuming and less performing all at a higher MSRP. The Porsche would definitely be a better pick when compared to the offering from Audi.

Porsche Cayenne Vs BMW X6

The X6 is a champion and it has all the requirements to be rightfully called so. With a price tag much lesser than the Porsche,  the Beamer can perform better all the while returning better fuel efficiency. Not just that, the BMW has better luxury and space as well making it a rather all-round performer compared to the Porsche which has excellent performance but lacks many utility aspects.

The clear winner when these two behemoths are pitted against each other is the BMW X6.

Porsche Cayenne Vs Mercedes AMG GLE 43 Coupe

Mercedes has been at the SUV segment for longer than Porsche and has cleared all the snafus that their vehicles had over the years. It offers one of the best SUVs in terms of both luxury and performance in today's world. It beats the Porsche in every sense apart from fuel economy, so if that is the top priority for a purchase go for the Porsche.

All in all the Mercedes is one car which nobody would regret adding to their garage.

Final Verdict

The Porsche Coupe is here to stay and is a delight in every term. Cayenne SUV did get various accolades to its name and the Coupe comes in as an even sportier iteration of the same. As the world has just been introduced to this marvel not much can be speculated on how it will perform in real-world situations.

But being a Porsche and the best SUV combined into a finer version of the two the expectations from the Coupe are high. It is definitely something to go for if driving dynamics and the exhilarating experience is what one desires in their everyday commute.
