Overview

If one would ask you to name a car having almost 4 decades of history, it is pretty certain that there won’t be much to recall. But there is a very high probability that a few of the general masses may highlight Nissan Sentra. It is true that it has that much richness tagged to its name.

Buying Advice

It is actually advisable to opt for the SR trim as with a little increment of price, it offers better comfort with power-heating in the seats and a better listening experience with 6-speaker audio unit. It is true that the handling dynamics remain quite the same in all trims irrespective of the price tag. There is no serious gap in terms of performance as well but in the matter of long hauling, it is a better investment altogether. Thus, skip the other variants and put your dollars on the best among the rest.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2015 Nissan Sentra is available in 5 trims and has been given a refreshing start as well. The 4-door sedan hits the road map at a price of $17,365 which increases as the trim level rises. Moreover, the competition which makes its travel more difficult to pursue is the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda 3. It will be later found whether the charm is intense enough to get in it and drive around the city.

Features
8.0/10

There are specifically 5 trims in the garage to choose from and all have standard powertrain units under the hood of Nissan Sentra. The trims differ in their interior accents, tech touch-ups, and better comfort ease. The 4-speaker audio set in the S trim transforms into a 6-speaker audio unit in the SR trim.

Not just that, even the tires have an upgrade level as per trim as the P205/55HR16 AS Tires in the FE+ S are replaced by the P205/50VR17 Tires in SL. The Base has Manual Air Conditioning, while the higher trims like SL have Dual Zone Front Automatic Air Conditioning. Therefore, there is a stark difference to notice among them.

There have been some standard features like the Brake Assist, EPAS, and Engine Immobilizer which can be found across all trims as they have become sort of a prerequisite for the cars in the state. The Nissan Sentra has a metal-finish grille on the front along with driver-selectable mode on the inside which makes the driver’s job less pumped. The Electronic Stability Control and 4-Wheel ABS are among the safety touches that have been uploaded in it as well.

We Recommend

It is actually advisable to opt for the SR trim as with a little increment of price, it offers better comfort with power-heating in the seats and a better listening experience with 6-speaker audio unit. Fuel Economy
8.0/10

One would, in general, expect that if there has been a layoff in the performance, he/she might be presented with an equivalent surge in fuel economy. Unfortunately, that is not the case here as the 2015 Nissan Sentra does not offer more than 27 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 30 on average. It has a decent fuel tank size of 13.2 gallons with which it hits the mark of 396 miles which is quite enough for daily commuting purposes but probably a concern for a long hauling as the refueling keeps haunting.

Just like its performance, the Mazda 3 sets pave the way for advancements for others as it has a segment-leading mileage in all the conditions, 41 mpg being the highlight on the highways among all. This is when coupled with the 13.2 gallons can make you reach 435 miles quietly easily. After the Mazda 3, comes the Corolla with better practicality and figures altogether over the remaining two.

Interior
8.0/10

The Nissan Sentra has been adorned with quite a comfort with the power-heated bucket seats but the lower trims have been expected from that feel. Not just that, the variation even prevails in the air conditioning temperature control as well. The leather packaging on the seats, steering wheels, gear shifter, and door insert make the cabin smell like one. The dashboard is pretty symmetrical as well with a 5” unit display unit which can be coupled along with external memory control. Hence, much from the lower trims would be no less than calling out yourself on a wrong sale only which drives us to choose between the SL and SR for satisfaction.

The cargo volume is impressive in the Sentra, unlike its seating arrangement. The rear feels a bit more cramped and can be a painful experience in case of long hauling. The front is also not an exemplary one but can be manageable. Among all, Mazda 3 is generous in its ergonomics with much better visibility and seat height and positioning. The Elantra can also be regarded as the same as that of the Mazda 3. But the striking fact is that it is all available at a relatively cheaper price for the Mazda 3. Some of the features are:

  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Leather-packed Steering wheel
  • Power-heated seats
  • Dual Zone Front Automatic Air Conditioning

How intuitive is the 2015 Nissan Sentra’s infotainment unit?

The 2015 Nissan Sentra is not great but it is not bad either. Simple and sober in its entertainment package, the Sentra has a variation from a 4-speaker to 6-speaker audio unit. The extension goes on to add NissanConnect and SiriusXM Satellite radio. Further adding to that, the baggage is a mixture of Bluetooth hands-free text messaging assistants which is a precise one along with the normals like the Aux Audio Input Jack, Radio Data System, and Bluetooth Wireless Phone Connectivity. Some of the features are:

  • NissanConnect
  • SiriusXM Satellite radio
  • 6-speaker audio unit
  • Radio Data System
  • Bluetooth Wireless Phone Connectivity

Exterior
7.0/10

There is nothing much to say about the 2015 Nissan Sentra. The model is simple in appearance with a relatively squeezed front in its length which seems to be blown outwardly. The aspect ratio miss-match throughout the silhouette does not present it continuously. The typical 4-door sedan Sentra rarely shows us the pathway of Americanness or even the sense of ownership. The 17" Split 7-Spoke Aluminum-Alloy wheels are just another attachment that makes no impact on its dressing. Among all, the one thing that may be attractive to look at in the first place is the metal-finish grille. Once done with that, the direction ends.

As per data, the comparison is actually in the no man’s land. One can barely bring out any advantage of figures over another as they are on par with one other. On top of that, they are even parallel in their weightage which again puts them in the same bar of equivalent nose dive and mass transfer. Thus, all seem to be doing fine with the standard figures which the segment asks for. A few of the highlights of this section are:

  • 17" Split 7-Spoke Aluminum-Alloy wheels
  • Fully Automatic Aero-Composite Halogen Headlamps
  • Metal-finish grille
  • Fully Galvanized Steel Panels

Safety
7.0/10

The 2015 Nissan Sentra is one of the well-built sedans which has an overall rating of 4-stars in the NHTSA rating with a rollover risk percentage of 11% and a “Good” rating in all parameters except the LATCH use which marks it as the “ Top Safety Pick” by the IIHS. The prowess is further reinforced by the safety active features like the 4-Wheel ABS, Traction Control, and Electronic Stability Control. For the higher trims, it does an adaptive suspension which takes care of the ride height and undulation quite efficiently. On the whole, there is nothing much more expected from Nissan's end in Sentra as they have tried their best to offer maximum at such pricing. Some of the features are:

  • 4-Wheel ABS
  • Traction Control
  • Brake Assist
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Standard Airbags

Final Verdict

The Nissan Sentra is a valuable return in its safety and structural integrity but has a lot of struggle in other segments. The rival like the Mazda 3 is head and shoulders the best among the mentioned and by a huge mile. Therefore, one will have to pay less for more comfort, performance, and presence in the rivals as compared to this gentleman which exempts it from the top pick.

Pros - ["Great mileage", "Premium Sound", "Comfy seats"]

Cons - ["Electrical Issues", "Transmission Issues", "Performance"]

This car may look nice and have a premium feel to it but it has been an absolute nightmare. It constantly has electrical issues that are always effecting it. The CVT transmissions are trash and even with the recall it needs a new one after just 40k. I have more money is this factory lemon than what it's worth. Until nissan fixs the electrical and transmission issues I will never by another nissan...

              Nissan Sentra

Pros - ["back up camera is great at helping me park", "Dashboard, has a nice screen that lets you know if you need fuel or music you are playing"]

Cons - ["breaks are terrible and not matter how many times it's fixed doesn't do much", "Radio, a few months after buying car the right speaker blew"]

The car is a great car for my early 20s, great and small car but now that I am a mom I would love something bigger, just waiting to pay it off to get rid off it. It does do great on gas and hasn't given me much issues for the last 4 years but the breaks are not great and the door window side stuff that is supposed to keep the rain out keeps coming apart.

              It's a Great Car!

Pros - ["Very light car, eco boost on Gas, great on long drives", "enough room for Tall people", "Perfect mileage"]

Cons - ["AC always faulty", "Parts expensive", "AC faulty and expensive"]

It's perfect just that the AC is always faulty and it's a lot to maintain and keep fixing but the rest is perfectly fine for me great music quality perfect seating awesome soft ride enjoyable at it's best
