Overview

The 2015 Dodge Dart comes without any major changes over the ongoing model. It took its entry into the American market in 1959 and has been one of Dodge's best-selling sedans due to many apparent reasons. The classy looks, the comfortable cabin, and the reliable engine Dodge packed the Dart with makes it a great choice in the segment. It performed well over the years with modest and sincere performance and has been reliable for the crowd that invested in it.

Buying Advice

The SXT is what we recommend because of the value it offers being priced at $19,000. Additionally, you can customize your SXT with the Rallye Group which costs $268 that brings more features like Projector fog lamps, dual exhaust with bright tips, touring suspension, leather steering, and gear shifter, an optional Backup-camera, and an 8.4” touch LCD.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2015 Dodge Dart starts at $16,495 and is offered in 5 trims. There are several attributes of the Dart which help it earn a comfortable place among the top 10 compact sedans for the year 2015. It shines because of the engine, fuel economy, classy exterior, and great safety. In the competitive American market, it is opposed by the Chevy Cruze, Ford Focus, and the Hyundai Elantra

Engine and Performance
7.0/10

The SE comes fitted with a 2L inline-4 engine that is coupled to a 6-speed manual or auto transmission. All the trims come based on the FWD system. The standard 2L engine generates 160 horses and 148 foot-pounds of torque which encourages the car to attain 0-60 mph at 8.4 seconds, cover a quarter-mile at 16.7 seconds, and reach the maximum speed of 134 mph.

The other 2 engines include an efficient 1.4L turbo inline-4 engine and a 2.4L inline-4 engine. The 1.4L turbocharged inline-4 engine generates a maximum power output of 160 horsepower and 180 ft.-lbs. of torque, which assists the car in 0-60 at 7.8 seconds. The other 2.4L returns similar power and torque of 184 hp. and 174 ft.-lbs. of torque, and offers a better 0-60 mph time.

The performance of the car depends on which engine is fitted inside the car, if you buy the SE, the 2L engine just does okay while keeping up with daily life and offers enough power to float through daily tasks and brief commutes. But the 2L engine lacks smoothness and engagement. The engine feels feeble and hesitant when asked for power. The hesitancy can easily be felt when you’re driving it on the highways. It’s adamant and lacks the punch. However, if you buy the Aero, it will offer increased mileage because of the turbocharged engine while pushing out similar performance figures.

The Dodge Dart is the second cheapest in the comparison and does the best in terms of performance and power output. While the Cruze being the cheapest, stays at the bottom because of lesser power and slower speeds. The Ford Focus and Hyundai Elantra being similarly priced in the 17 grand range, stays very close to the Dodge in power and performance. Henceforth, the Dodge Dart impresses the buyers here.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The mileage and efficiency output heavily depends on the trim you buy. The SEis powered with a 2L inline-4 engine that returns a mileage of 25,36, and 29 MPG in the city, highway, and combined situations, respectively. It comes built with a 14.2-gallon fuel tank, which helps it with a range of 325 miles of combined range.

The Aero, with its 1.4L turbocharged engine, offers a better efficiency of 28,41 and 32 MPG in city, highway, and combined situations, respectively. It has a smaller 13.2-gallon fuel tank and offers 422 miles of combined range. The 2.4L offers similar mileage as the base engine but has a better range due to the larger tank that it comes with.

The Hyundai Elantra offers the best mileage despite being respectable in terms of power and performance. However, it misses marking the box in range because of the smaller fuel tank. On the other hand, the Dodge Dart and Cruze impresses us with the range because of the bigger fuel tanks and respectable mileage.

Interior
7.0/10

The 2015 Dodge Dart is a family-friendly sedan. If the adequate power and admirable mileage didn’t impress you, the cabin accommodation and comfort surely will. One of the best attributes of the Dart is the feature-packed and airy cabin that’s built under the pleasant exterior. If you open the doors, you’ll be impressed by the airy and comfortable cabin that comes well-curated inside.

The cabin can easily seat 5 with enough head and legroom to spare. The cabin offers a passenger volume of 97.2 cubic feet, and the seats are wide, comfortable, and wrapped with Sedoso cloth with sport mesh in the bottom trim and the interior comes covered with soft-touch materials as standard. Standard interior features include a 6-way driver’s seat with height adjuster, folding rear seats, Premium cluster with tachometer, Outside temperature display, 4-speaker audio, Power windows, and Reactive front head restraints.

The higher trims bring better quality seating materials and interior trims. The GT model comes fitted with perforated Nappa leather seats with ruby red accent stitching, while the Limited comes with White Nappa leather upholstery with Axis perforated inserts with Tungsten accent stitching. At the back, the sedan offers 13.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Additionally, the rear seats can be folded for more space.

The Dodge Dart offers the best passenger room and also the best head and legroom both at the front and back, but misses out on the standard cargo space. Whereas, Chevy packs its Cruze with the highest cargo capacity of 15 cubic feet. The 2015 Ford Focus also offers a similar cargo area. The 2015 Hyundai Elantra also offers impressive cargo space for the segment of 14.8 cubic feet. Standout interior features in the 2015 Dodge Dart are:

  • Heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Power 10-way driver’s seat
  • Heated front seats
  • Perforated Nappa leather-trimmed seats
  • Ambient LED interior lighting
  • Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control
  • Power sunroof

How intuitive is the 2015 Dodge Dart's Infotainment unit?

The 2015 Dodge Dart comes packed with a pragmatic and well-functioning infotainment unit that works well and the controls are user-friendly. Standard features include a 4-speaker audio system that is loaded with AM/FM/CD-player and Mp3 with a 200w amplifier.

With higher trims, the infotainment unit turns sweeter because of improved or added features that come standard. The higher trims come fitted with an 8.4” touchscreen with the support of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, iPod control, SiriusXM, and Garmin Navigation system. Optional 9-speaker premium audio by Alpine can be fitted further if you happen to be a modest music lover or want a high-fi sound system in your car. Standout infotainment features in the 2015 Dodge Dart:

  • 8.4” Uconnect touchscreen
  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio
  • Garmin Navigation
  • Android and Apple support
  • 6-speaker audio with AM/FM/CD-player and Mp3
  • 9-speaker Alpine premium sound system
  • USB ports

Exterior
8.0/10

Dodge introduced the 2015 model year with no changes made on the outside other than some new color options. The Dart looks like a traditional sedan. It comes with a simple design at the front that fits its personality and gives it a subtle character. On the back, however, it is a different story. The back looks sporty and the presence of the LED taillamps make it one of the best-looking sedans in its segment.

As standard the Dart comes fitted with 16-inch wheel covers, Projector headlamps, LED stop/turn tail lamps, and a laminated acoustic windshield. Upper trims add 16/17/18” aluminum wheels, dark-tinted automatic headlamps, LED tail lamps, power-adjustable heated mirrors with supplemental signals, projector fog lamps, and optional HID Bi-xenon headlamps.

The Elantra is the smallest sedan among all but has the longer wheelbase and highest ground clearance. It also happens to be the lightest. Whereas, the Dart is the heaviest here and is due to its large body size, and also has the lowest ground clearance and the largest wheelbase by a smidge. Standout exterior features in the 2015 Dodge Dart include:

  • HID Bi-xenon headlamps
  • Projector fog lamps
  • 18” Hyper Black aluminum wheels
  • LED racetrack tail lamp
  • Dark-tinted automatic headlamps

Safety
9.0/10

Dodge took safety seriously when introducing the Dart to the market. This is further proven by the impeccable safety scores it achieved. Moreover, the build quality is superb. The sedan is based on Fiat’s Compact platform. The chassis has a great build quality and is composed of steel and aluminum. As a result, it's rigid and tough.

All four wheels come fitted with disc brakes further loaded with ABS, EBD, ESC, and Emergency Brake Assist. Moreover, there are essential safety and driver-assist features that further add to safety and mitigation, such as:

  • Blind-spot monitor
  • Rear cross-path detection
  • Parksense rear park assist
  • Ready alert braking
  • Hill Start Assist
  • Cruise control

Final Verdict

The 2015 Dodge Dart comes with 3 engine choices fitted across different trims. The sedan has a pleasant-looking face with a sporty back. The cabin inside fits 5 people with adequate features and comfort on offer. One of the best things is the safety ratings and features that it comes loaded with. The Dart is the most practical choice that performs comparatively better than the other sedans we have compared and to be honest it does not enjoy the popularity and recognition it deserves.

              Overall a comfortable, stylish car

Pros - ["Plenty of leg room", "Nice interior and exterior design"]

Cons - ["No cupholders in the back seat", "The key can sometimes get stuck in the ignition"]

The car performs really well, very quiet engine when driving. It gets great MPG, just a few dollars in the tank can take you a good distance. The leg room is fantastic, giving me room for mine and my wife's bags, a couple of grocery bags, and still have foot room. The seats are super comfortable and don't hurt my back. The design of both the inside and outside is beautiful, stylish, and clean. ...

Not the best Dodge vehicle they have made

Pros - ["Good on gas", "Good sound system", "Comfort in the front seat"]

Cons - ["Not enough leg room for rear passenger", "Too many recalls", "GPS outdated"]

I bought a Dodge Dart LE 2014. It handled very well and great on gas, however it wasn't but two weeks I had to put it in the shop for a recall for the gear linkage malfunction. I don't recommend anyone getting one.
