Where to begin. This thing is utter trash. If GM had shame they would have never released this thing. Repairs are very expensive and overly complicated with no reason other than what can only be surmised as bad faith intent by the company to prevent home repairs and even shop repairs are difficult and overly expensive. Nothing but an oil burner with engine and mechanical issues. Burns oil regularly which most darts do due to improper machiningRead More

... just have to wait a minute or two, wiggle the shifter and you can hear a click then the fob can turn to the off position. You would think that this would be wider knowledge but again, if no code is generated then Dodge mechanics don't think the problem exists. For the dogging out issue, I add seafoam whenever needed and use only mid grade or premium. If I put regular grade inRead More

The Dodge Dart is all about first impressions. The compact sedan has a spacious cabin and a superb design to boast of, while the technology that it comes equipped with is an additional plus point. The range for the compact sedan starts at just $16,500 and rivals the Chevrolet Cruze, the Ford Focus, the Honda Civic, the Hyundai Elantra, and the Toyota Corolla. Though the sales have been pretty strong with 83,000 units sold last year, the number of complaints and recalls might turn one away. The most common complaint is the Dart suddenly turns off. The dealership-level investigations have revealed various reasons for this happening, the most common of which is the battery dying. Apart from this, there are transmission issues one ought to take a look at. Let’s see for ourselves and read what issues the owners had to go through.

2015 Dodge Dart Problems

Electrical issues:

  • UConnect issues: The UConnect system that comes equipped in the 2015 Dode Dart is a pretty troublesome one. There are constant connection issues and the system doesn't read any devices attached to it. Apart from this, the Bluetooth pairing is weak and constantly disconnects. People report the system to be very bright and distracting wheel driving at night. In some cases, the UConnect system just stopped working and shut down, causing a lot of issues while driving.
  • Battery problems: One of the most common issues is the Dart battery giving up on its charge while the car is moving. There has been a stockpile of similar complaints registered with the NHTSA as well as reported in the unofficial forums. The owners have to get their batteries changed frequently to avoid mishaps.
  • Exterior lighting packing issues: The packing of the headlights/tail lights is substandard and causes moisture to enter the units. There have been many reports of the lights shorting out due to moisture inside their wiring. One complainant has reported fire due to such short-circuit and had to extinguish the fire himself/herself.

Mechanical issues:

  • Abnormal engine oil consumption: The most common issue with the Dodge Dart is its disability to burn engine oil at an abnormal rate, measured at 1 quart every 1,000 miles. There have been numerous issues stating the car stalling out and losing motive power at highway speeds. One complainant had reported a very close call with a semi-truck as s/he was traveling on the highway and the car gave out. The issue is communicated to the dealership and the manufacturer but no steady solution is available for now. As a remedy, some dealerships suggest carrying a quart or two of engine oil while driving.
  • Transmission issues: The Dart transmission issues mostly comprise of the pressure plate cracking/malfunctioning and causing the car to slip gears. People report that the clutch pedal remains depressed despite the foot being taken off the pedal, causing the car to rev in neutral. This causes a loss of momentum which has resulted in close calls as well. One has to get the pressure plates changed but since the issue is most prominent post warranty expiration, the brunt of payment is on the owner.

Equipment issues:

  • Bubbling on stock tires: Several owners report the stock Kumho Solus 225/40R18 tires bubbling up and causing damage to the sidewalls. The issue isn’t an isolated incident but remains widespread all over the States. It has been communicated to the manufacturer and rumors of a new set of stock tires in newer batches are out in the market.

Should you buy the 2015 Dodge Dart?

The 2015 Dodge Dart offers more than what it costs and is a definite buy for many but the issues and recalls do raise concern in the buyer’s mind. The electrical issues haven’t been provided with any remedy yet and the UConnect system hasn’t been updated to cure its woes. There are no addresses made by the manufacturer to rectify the issues. Also, the engine oil consumption is something one should take note of while purchasing since the failure to do so may seize the engine completely. The transmission issue is rather manageable and a recall is already in place to resolve the issues. The tire quality has been questioned and, reportedly, removed from the newer batches. The newer batches wouldn’t have some of the listed issues and can be purchased without issues. For the pre-owned units, we’d suggest looking out for the repairs and recall history to see for any discrepancies.
