Overview

If you ask anybody about performance-based cars, you will hear several names but drop ‘muscle’ in there. Then there are high chances that you will hear Dodge Challenger very soon. It is one of those muscle cars that might have updated itself with time, but the raw power beast is still there. This is exactly the reason behind its fan following and the story continues with the 2015 Dodge Challenger.

Buying Advice

Although the base SXT trim is pretty good and loaded with lots of features and goodies, we would recommend going for SXT Plus priced at $30,990. The SXT Plus adds 20-inch alloy wheels, performance suspension, and brakes, fog lights, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, and an upgraded sound system

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Not just the power but the attractive and comfortable cabin is also worth praising. The Dodge Challenger starts at an MSRP of $26,995 and offers tough competition to rivals such as Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Nissan 370Z. Let’s see how it stacks up against the tough competition.

Features
8.0/10

From afar the 2015 Dodge Challenger might look like a traditional muscle car but dive into its details and you will find that it comes in seven trims. i.e SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Scat Pack, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. The performance variants R/T and SRT will be reviewed separately. Going from basic to fully advanced in the same order but not in the terms of features but power. This is not surprising for a vehicle named Challenger. Offered in four different engine configurations, this beast got something for everyone.

The base SXT comes with decent performance but also focuses on the level of comfort and technology such as keyless entry and ignition, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a 7-inch configurable display. SXT Plus loads body upgrades, mechanical changes, and updated interior. In the same way the higher you go the more performance or features you are going to find. The SRT trims however are fully focussed on performance but still, Dodge managed to load few safety features and a Harman Kardon audio system.

We Recommend

Although the base SXT trim is pretty good and loaded with lots of features and goodies, we would recommend going for SXT Plus priced at $30,990. The SXT Plus adds 20-inch alloy wheels, performance suspension, and brakes, fog lights, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, and an upgraded sound system.

Engine and Performance
9.0/10

The base trim of the 2015 Dodge Challenger is powered by a 3.6 Liter V6 engine which produces 305 horsepower and a torque of 268 lb-ft. By default, the engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission but you can always opt for a six-speed manual. The automatic transmission is pretty good but we would advise you to opt for the manual one as it is a hidden gem and feels purely made for driving aggressively.

Every Challenger comes with a rear-wheel drive so drift maniacs are going to love it. Once ignited, the engine roars amazingly. However, it manages to go from 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds which is average for its class, but it does provide an amazing driving experience once you get it moving, and do not forget that it is the base engine. So once you go higher on the trim levels, you will find three more engine options to get from. The top trim Hellcat comes with an insane 707 hp V8 engine which only takes 4.1 seconds to reach 60 mph.

When compared to its rivals, the base engine of Challenger surpasses Chevrolet Camaro but falls behind the others. This is pure because of how heavy the Challenger is while others are far lighter. The Nissan 370Z is the most powerful of the lot churning out 332 hp and it covers the 0-60 mph run in 5.1 seconds.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

When you find a powerful engine it is often seen among vehicles that it usually comes with an average or bad fuel economy. The base engine of the Challenger is powerful and at the same time, it offers one of the best mileage in its class. You get 19 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highways, and 23 mpg combined. These stats are surprisingly amazing and on top of that, it comes with an 18.5-gallon fuel tank.

With that, you get an amazing driving range of 351.5 miles in the city and 555 miles on the highways. So despite being a performance vehicle it is clear that you can take it for local routes or long route trips without worrying much about stopping to refuel.

When compared to its rivals, the fuel economy of the Dodge Challenger is much better than the others. Its fuel tank capacity is somewhat close to what rivals such as Chevrolet Camaro and 370Z offer but the overall driving range you get is one of the best in its class. Ford Mustang does offer decent fuel economy but comes with a small fuel tank.

Interior
8.0/10

One of the biggest changes that you are going to find in the 2015 Challenger is its updated interior design. Forget about the bland and straight-designed interior where everything felt oversized because this time you get a complex design that looks very seamless and amazing. Everything is well joined and the material quality it offers is premium. But the most interesting thing which we love is the newly updated dashboard, this time you get a driver eccentric design with configurable driver display. So congratulations performance lovers, you finally have something dedicated. The T-style leather-wrapped steering wheel got a pretty good range.

As for the passengers, at the front, you get wide and nicely padded seats of which the driver seat is power-adjustable. For the rear a split-folding bench seat is available. Room-wise, the front row occupants have adequate room for a pretty good level of comfort, the rear row might get a bit smaller room as compared to the front but still, it is much higher than the other vehicles in its class. On higher trims, sport seats are available which can be further updated with better quality materials. Automatic climate control on offer is pretty good. As for the cargo capacity, the Challenger gets the biggest trunk in its class. So just throw in your bags and enjoy your trip.

Challenger’s cabin is very spacious and comfortable. Even if you compare it to its rivals you will see how big it is and suddenly the limited rear row gets much bigger than what you would get in a Ford Mustang or Camaro. The same can be said about the cargo capacity. Standout interior features:

  • 10-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar adjustment
  • Leather upholstery
  • Day and night auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Keyless entry and ignition
  • Configurable driver display
  • Upgradable front sport seats

How intuitive is the 2015 Dodge Challenger’s infotainment unit?

The Dodge Challenger’s updated infotainment system is powered by the Uconnect interface. The infotainment system comes with a 5-inch infotainment touchscreen or an upgradable 8.4 inch one. Both displays are very good and come with a clean and intuitive UI. No, you are not going to find any support for Android Auto or Apple Carplay but the standard voice activation system is pretty good.

The same can be said about the six-speaker sound system. However, on higher trims, a Harman Kardon premium audio system is going to sweeten things further with its amazing audio output. Various features such as USB ports, auxiliary support, SiriusXM, and Bluetooth connectivity are also available. Standout infotainment features:

  • 5-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Upgradable 8.4 inch infotainment touchscreen
  • 18 speaker Harman Kardon audio system
  • SiriusXM
  • Navigation system

Exterior
9.0/10

Just like the interior, the exterior of the 2015 Challenger has also received some interesting changes such as a new front fascia with an updated grille design which pays homage to the 1971 Challenger. Even the hood with scoops has been updated. You are not going to find many changes from the side, but the rear has been updated and this time you are not going to find a big joint taillight as Dodge decided to divide it by placing a Dodge logo in the middle.

Higher trims offer mode body changes such as spoilers for front and rear, uniquely designed hood with scoops and Hellcat comes with air extractor. Even the different wheel designs are available. Packages such as R/T classic or Super Track Pak also load some extra niceties. All in all, it is a great design that might be a bit heavier than anything else on the road but looks equally intimidating.

Compared to the others, Challenger is a lot bigger and heavier than others, which is why it affects engine performance and handling of the vehicle. Among its rivals, the 370z is the most nimble vehicle on its feet. The Challenger also has the longest wheelbase in the competition which means better cabin space. Standout exterior features:

  • 20-inch black alloy wheels
  • Body-colored rear spoiler
  • R/T classic package
  • Unique hood with center scoop and air extractor

Safety
8.0/10

The Dodge Challenger might be heavy and powerful at the same time. But Dodge has made sure that the vehicle and its occupants stay safe as they have loaded multiple airbags with various standard safety features and assists. No, you are not going to find top-of-the-line active features but then again you are not going to find those in any other vehicle in its class. What you get here is a blind spot monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The vehicle might have terrible visibility to the rear because of thick pillars but because of park sense rear parking sensors and Parkview backup camera, there shouldn’t be any trouble going the opposite direction. The NHTSA has awarded the Challenger with five stars in crash tests and IIHS awarded it with a maximum possible rating of ‘Good’ which is commendable for a performance-based vehicle. Standout safety features:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Parksense rear parking sensors
  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Parkview backup camera

Final Verdict

The Dodge Challenger has always been one of the best vehicles in its class. It clearly knows how to keep a balance between performance and comfort. Sure the top trim is overloaded with insane power but the base to mid-level trims are more than enough to demonstrate how it is both powerful and modern at the same time.

With all sorts of tech features and the level of quality that you get inside, we can say without any doubt that yes you should consider getting a 2015 Dodge Challenger. Unless you want something very light then go look for something else.

              My review for my Challenger

Pros - ["I love the style", "Low maintenance"]

Cons - ["Not enough room for my kids", "No tints for the windows"]

I love everything about my car the style the fast drives the room to fit a lot of things the room to fit my kids I love the color my son wants to keep the car when he is old enough and rebuild it to be a faster race car
