Overview

With changing times, most prominent muscle carmakers are shying away from redesigning them. However, that's not the case with Ford. The 7th-generation Ford Mustang 2024 model is here with all the bells and whistles that one could ask for. The 2024 Ford Mustang boasts new exterior and interior styling. Ford has also made some changes to the powertrains and offers Performance Pack equipment to make the 2024 Mustang track-capable.

The track-ready 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse is added to the lineup, boasting 500 horsepower and access to the Ford Performance Parts store for multiple upgrades. Ford also revealed the track-only version of the Dark Horse, called the Dark Horse R. With declining competition in the segment for the 2024 model year, it will be interesting to see how the Mustang 2024 will stack up against the competition. Check out the video by Raiti's Rides to learn more about the new-gen Mustang.

Key observations in the video:

  • One of the most iconic cars of all time
  • Long low slung hood with redesigned headlamps
  • Multiple personalization options
  • More powerful than the previous generation

Buying Advice

The new-generation Mustang is superior to its predecessors in every possible way. The 2024 Ford Mustang price starts at $30,920 for the base EcoBoost Fastback trim. The second trim is the EcoBoost Premium Fastback, and it costs about $5,500 more than the base trim. For those additional grands, you get access to better heated exterior mirrors with pony puddle lamps, body-colored decklid spoilers, larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a better sound system, ambient lighting, and some more features. However, the powertrain and drivetrain are exactly the same. So, we would recommend the EcoBoost Premium Fastback.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Ford Mustang has been the most iconic name in muscle car history. The 2024 Ford Mustang continues its legacy as an iconic American muscle car, impressive with its blend of power, style, and modern technology. Since the 2020 model year, the Ford Mustang has not been rated for the J.D. Power Consumer Rating. However, back then, it scored an overall 85/100, which can be considered great. We expect that the 2024 Mustang will follow in its footsteps. Even the previous model year has been recalled only once for a loose transmission bolt.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Ecoboost, with a base MSRP of $30,920, can be leased for a term of 48 months with monthly payments of $459 and a one-time down payment of $3,316. The annual mileage is limited to 10,500 miles in this case. The same model can also be financed for a term of up to 60 months at a low APR of 7%. The estimated monthly payments of $580 and a down payment of $3,252 make it a good deal. However, the final deal will vary depending on the selected configurations, credit score, and financer.

Features
8.0/10

The Ford Mustang is a midsize coupe that is known for its raw power delivery and winning over the crowd with its iconic presence. The standard 2024 Mustang is available in two trims: EcoBoost Fastback and EcoBoost Premium Fastback. As per the official 2024 Ford Mustang build and price section, the two trims are priced at $30,920 and $36,445, respectively.

However, an additional fee of $1,595 will be charged as destination charges. Most of the Mustang 2024 changes have taken place either under the hood, under the body, or in the cabin. It competes against the likes of the Challenger and the Camaro. The more powerful and capable trims like GT, convertible, and Dark Horse deserve a separate review.

Engine and Performance
6.6/10

Packing a range of engines under the hood, the standard 2024 Ford Mustang engine makes a whopping 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. For the all-new Mustang, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four engine has been retuned to produce 5 hp more. It is coupled with a 10-speed SelectShift with paddle shifters, and power is transferred to the rear wheels. The EcoBoost features a new modular power cylinder architecture that improves the performance of the Mustang, even though the base models are powered by a small turbocharged engine. The 2024 Ford Mustang 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds is no joke, making it to the list of fastest Ford Mustang models ever made.

Even the quarter-mile time of 13.7 seconds is pretty quick for its segment. With Drag Strip Mode and ideal conditions, a quicker 0–60 time in the range of 4.5 seconds is achievable. The 2024 Mustang, for a further engaged and easy driving experience, offers five driving modes in total: Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, and Track. The handling is pretty much similar to the previous generation, but MagneRide active suspension deals with unpaved roads, patches, and joints without shaking up the occupants too much in the cabin. In terms of outright handling and performance, the Dark Horse sets the standard really high, while the 2025 Mustang GTD will be the holy grail of performance for all Mustangs.

While all three are quite capable muscle cars and probably the last of the Mohicans, the 2024 Ford Mustang shines among them, with the best power under the hood, the fastest speed on the cluster, and even topping the ¼-mile lap. Dodge and Chevy are not far behind, with only a point 1 second behind the other in the 60 mph bar. Placing a V6 under the hood, the '24 Camaro throws tough competition at both Ford and Dodge. In fact, among the trio, the 2024 Chevy Camaro is the fastest, although it falls short of others in terms of 0–60 acceleration.

Fuel Economy
6.6/10

The 2024 Ford Mustang mpg ratings are 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. However, when equipped with the Performance Pack, the fuel economy drops to 21/29/24 in city/highway/combined conditions. With a 16-gallon fuel tank, the standard Mustang can travel up to 528 miles on the highway, while around town, a range of 352 miles can be achieved. However, all these figures depend on several factors and can vary depending on actual driving conditions.

The 2024 Mustang packs the smallest fuel tank among the trio while returning an mpg rating of 22/33/26, which justifies the overall range. The 2023 Challenger, being powered by the V6, returns a comparatively low efficiency, however, due to the bigger fuel tank, the overall range improves to a certain extent. Similarly the 2024 Chevy Camaro comes with the largest fuel tank while returning considerably good amount of fuel economy while being powered by the 3.6L V6. No doubt, all three drive exciting, but when it comes to the power-to-efficiency ratio, the 2024 Mustang tops the list followed by the Challenger and the Camaro.

Interior
6.6/10

Just like the exterior, even the 2024 Ford Mustang interior receives many useful updates. The 2024 Mustang is a well-equipped muscle car that, along with comfortable seating in the front, offers lots of amenities and technologies too. The front seats are power-adjustable and climate-controlled, with available packages for added convenience. Ford's "fighter-jet-inspired" interior design boasts a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster, which is very customizable. The ambient lighting and driver's display change as per the selected drive mode.

The cloth or vinyl trim upholstery can be selected in black onyx and space gray. The EcoBoost Premium also adds the options of Emberglo and Carmine Red with ActiveX upholstery. However, leather-trimmed seats and Recaro leather-trimmed sports seats are also available. One of the most interesting new features has to be the remote rev function, where the Mustang 2024 can be revved from the key fob itself to hear it from outside. With all that swag, it's practical too, with 13.5 cu-ft of maximum cargo space.

The 2023 Dodge Challenger among the three provides the ultimate comfort, with no shortage of headroom, and shoulder room. However, the Mustang is the most suitable for stretching legs, on the first row. Coming to the rear seats, the Challenger is quite spacious with a bigger shoulder area, followed by Mustang and Camaro. Both Chevy and Ford provide almost equal legroom, and in terms of headroom, taller guys would prefer the Challenger and the Mustang the most. The muscle cars provide a good cargo area which that of the Camaro is the least and, as expected, the Challenger offers the largest cargo area.

The 2024 Ford Mustang's infotainment system gets a much-needed upgrade in terms of hardware. A 13.2” central touchscreen coupled with the SYNC 4 is synchronized well with the gauge cluster. Some connectivity features, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are standard, while an optional wireless charger helps to detangle your life. Also, to charge your electronic devices, two powerpoints have also been provided. You can use the voice-activated navigation system, and you are all set to go. A 6-speaker system is standard, while the Premium trim upgrades it to an 8-speaker setup. However, for the immersive audio experience, one can get the optional 12-speaker B&O sound system.

Some of the standout interior features of the 2024 Mustang are:

  • Power-adjustable and heated front seats
  • FordPass Connect
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Recaro sport seats (optional)
  • Flat-bottom steering wheel
  • 13.2” touchscreen with SYNC 4

Exterior
6.6/10

The 7th-generation Ford Mustang's exterior is redesigned without messing with the original Mustang silhouette. A long and low-slung hood coupled with the LED projector headlights, along with the big grille and pony moniker, make the all-new Ford Mustang look quite stunning. For an enhanced appearance, dual exhausts have been placed at the rear. The rear three-bar sequential LED taillamps look modern yet classy. The decklid spoiler aids with aerodynamics and looks sinister. The side profile retains the roofline and the familiar C-pillar of the predecessor. The multiple wheel designs, with wheel sizes varying from 17 to 19 inches, accentuate the exterior design.

Among all, the 2023 Challenger is the longest, providing the best room one can seek. In terms of wheelbase too, it’s the Dodge that tops the list, followed by Chevy and Ford. However, being longer than others, there is an issue too, to park that Challenger or to drive through the tight-packed jam. Otherwise, the Challenger ticks all the boxes any driver seeks to have in a car, especially tall and big people. The '24 Camaro being closer to the ground drives pretty good, especially in cornering.

Some of the 2024 Ford Mustang color options are:

  • Ozford White
  • Iconic Silver Metallic
  • Race Red
  • Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat

Safety
8.5/10

With revised chassis hardware and entry into the new generation, the 2024 Ford Mustang is bound to have a high safety quotient like its predecessor. Every Ford Mustang is equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360 technology as standard. The 2024 Mustang hasn't been rated for safety by the NHTSA. However, the previous model year scored a five-star safety rating. It even scored a "Good" rating for many crashworthiness tests conducted by IIHS. The 2024 Ford Mustang also has many passive safety features that work in conjunction with active safety features to enhance safety.

Some of the standout safety features of the 2024 Mustang include:

  • Auto high-beam headlamps
  • AdvanceTrac with Electronic Stability Control
  • SOS post-crash alert system
  • TPMS
  • Safety Canopy (side curtain airbags)

2024 Ford Mustang vs. 2023 Dodge Challenger

The 2024 Ford Mustang and 2023 Dodge Challenger are both iconic American muscle cars, each catering to distinct buyer preferences. The Mustang, known for its sleek and sporty design, has showcased many updates in its latest iteration. On the other hand, the 2023 Dodge Challenger, having established itself as a robust and brawny performer, maintains its powerful engine options and retro-inspired styling.

Sadly, the Challenger and Charger will be discontinued after the 2023 model year. However, an electric version of the Challenger will compete with the 2024 Mustang Mach-E. The 2024 Mustang Mach-E will help future generations reignite their Mustang Mania. So, as of now, the 2024 Mustang should be on your bucket list if you are hunting for a muscle car for the upcoming year.

2024 Ford Mustang Vs. 2024 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2024 Ford Mustang and 2024 Chevrolet Camaro are fierce competitors. Both models boast powerful engines and striking designs, captivating enthusiasts worldwide. The Mustang flaunts its iconic heritage with modern upgrades, offering a range of potent engine choices and advanced technology features. On the other hand, the 2024 Camaro delivers a thrilling driving experience with its agile handling and robust performance options.

The Mustang focuses on refinement and comfort, accommodating daily driving needs while retaining its performance-oriented roots. Meanwhile, the Camaro emphasizes a track-focused approach, catering to adrenaline-seeking drivers with its sharp cornering and responsive handling. Both are the best options in the segment, however, people valuing iconic heritage with raw power may go for the Mustang, while people who just love the track-like experience everywhere, go for the Camaro.

Final Verdict
8.5/10

The 2024 Ford Mustang has been thoroughly redesigned. With a host of technical upgrades, trims, retuned powertrains, and safety features on offer, there's nothing that can come close in true sense. The Ecoboost trims are for the economy-conscious, while the GT and Dark Horse trims are for adrenaline-seekers. If you have made your mind of owing one after the complete review, we back your decision, as you won't regret it once.
