Overview

The 2024 Ford Maverick is a pickup truck from Ford that is the perfect blend of performance, practicality, and efficiency. With a modern and sleek design, and a compact form factor, the 2024 Maverick caters mostly to those who venture into the urban jungles more than the real ones. In short, this is the perfect truck one may use as their daily driver from home to office and vice versa.

The Maverick, since its inception, posed as the hybrid of truck and cars, and if the versatility and appearance are considered, then it does the job very well. The cabin is spacious, and the sense of practicality gets enhanced with the spacious bed and clever cargo management features. Contending in the compact truck segment, the 2024 Ford Maverick is priced from $23,400 to $34,855, competing directly with the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz, however, indirectly the 2023 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab and the 2023 Nissan Frontier too are rivals of this truck, being priced almost similarly.

Buying Advice

We would like to recommend the XLT Maverick, for being the most VFM in the lineup, loaded with both manual and automatic features, something that you crave for in an entry-level compact truck. The same engine has been implemented throughout the trims, meaning the same output and the same configuration, but the XLT seems to be the best of both worlds; it’s affordable and powerful at the same time, while being efficient. However, for better convenience, get the Lariat. This boy gets everything, however at the same time, costs way too much.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Acclaimed as the game-changer in the compact truck segment, the 2024 Ford Maverick is one of the best family haulers money can buy that can also exude a sense of practicality with its contemporary yet pragmatic design, a proportionate bed, and a spacious interior. The truck is configured with front-wheel drive as standard that improves its efficiency, keeps it stable over snowy roads, however, AWD is also available for some extra grands. Crafted with quality materials, the interior consists of pretty much everything, while keeping the deck and the area neat and clean. The seats are comfortable, however the firm suspension may be problematic to some, although in the long run on tough and bad roads, this kind of suspension only makes the ride comfortable. Along with this, the 2024 Maverick is also built robustly, and armed with a range of safety features to keep the people sound. In layman's terms, the 2024 Ford Maverick is a versatile and practical truck that appeals to a wide range of consumers looking for a capable, efficient, and affordable pickup option.

Features

Contending in the compact Pickup-truck segment, the 2024 Ford Maverick is one of the most acclaimed trucks in the market, for its fuel efficiency, practicality, affordability, and compact form factor. In the USA, especially in the big cities, space is getting squeezed every single day, however, with Maverick you won’t have much problem maneuvering and parking the truck. With all these features, the 2024 Maverick is also equipped with lots of features, starting from the XL, that includes both manually and electronically operated features that makes the life a living heaven. For the ease of driving, cruise control is there, as standard, and the heated steering wheel, and the power adjustable seats come very convenient at times. Priced from $23,400 to $36,450, the 2024 Ford Maverick is available in 3 trims - XL, XLT, & Lariat, and is configured with both FWD and AWD.

Engine and Performance
6.6/10

Introduced in 2010, the given 2L EcoBoost is a proven engine, serving the USA for over a decade now. Known for its exhilarating power delivery while being fuel efficient, the 2024 Ford Maverick is one of the best trucks available in the USA for drivers. Crunching 250 hp at 6000 rpm, and 277 pound-ft of torque @ 3000 rpm under the hood, the 2024 Maverick can clock to 60 mph in just 6.9 seconds. Mechanized with FWD, the truck drives more like a car, is quite stable on the snow, and returns a good mpg. The 2024 Ford Maverick comes with a responsive and efficient 8-speed automatic to operate lag-free. Mechanized with multiple measurements, the 2024 Maverick not only makes good power but also is quite stable over bad roads, where towing and hauling is kind of a headache. The Truck can tow 2000 pounds with the base model, however, with the 4K tow package, the same can be increased to 4000 pounds.

Making 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque under the hood, the 2024 Maverick is quite a powerful compact truck in the segment. Clocking 60 in 6.9 seconds is a big deal for any truck, especially when it’s entry-level, yet the Maverick manages to do so. Coming with a top speed of 126 mph, the SuperCrew takes 15.3 seconds to complete the ¼-mile lap at a speed of 91 mph. Compared to that, its direct rival, the Santa Cruz, is neither as fast as the Maverick, nor does it make that much power. However, in terms of practicality, Santa Cruz 2024 really beats the Maverick in a hard way, with towing up to 3500 lbs of weight.

Both Tacoma and Frontier are midsize trucks, and thus they are supposed to tow more than the Maverick. Well, while Frontier truly proves itself to be a proper midsize truck with an exceptional tow rating and hauling capacity, the 2023 Tacoma can only tow as same as the Santa Cruz 2024, while making the least power among the quad. The ‘23 Tacoma takes around 7.6 seconds to cross the 60 mph bar, and the same for the ‘23 Nissan Frontier is 7.4 seconds. Both trucks, however, perform similarly to others, in the long run.

2024 Ford Maverick Ride and Handling

Due to its unibody construction, more like the Honda Ridgeline, driving the truck is pretty much easy compared to its counterparts. The 2024 Maverick is configured with front-wheel drive, which makes it quite fuel efficient. Coming with accurate steering, and compact size, the truck provides a nimble handling experience on every type of road, and no roads in some cases. Maneuvering this truck with loads through tight spaces is pretty much easy, and the truck drives quite well and is composed on the highway, even at high speeds, making the journey comfortable. The 2024 Maverick is built tough with a well-balanced chassis, and tuned suspension system, that collectively minimizes body roll while driving over the potholes and bumps, providing a plush ride for occupants. The standard Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) further enhances the Maverick's driving dynamics by offering precise and responsive handling. Whether navigating city streets or winding country roads, the steering provides good feedback and control, allowing drivers to effortlessly maneuver the vehicle with ease.

2024 Ford Maverick Braking Performance

There's one common factor among the Maverick, Santa Cruz, and Ridgeline. All three of them are cars in disguise. The silhouette is of trucks, but acts like the cars we use as daily drivers. They perform like a car, ride like a car, and brake like a car. The 2024 Maverick is no exception, and is equipped with a range of braking systems, along with 11.8-inch ventilated discs at the front, and 10.9-inch discs at the rear axle. This Ford compact truck is mechanized with ABS, BA, and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), which adjusts the distribution of braking force between the front and rear wheels based on driving conditions, automatically. Weighing a bit over 3600 pounds, the truck is heavy, no doubt, but the given mechanisms make it stop in around 132 ft distance. Although it's quite a bit long distance, the features manage to enhance stability and maximizes stopping power, particularly in challenging road situations.

Covering the most distance, while being the lightest, the '24 Ford Maverick is no doubt one of the lethargic trucks in the group, followed by Frontier and Tacoma. The nearest competitor, the '24 Hyundai Santa Cruz, is equipped with 12.8-inch brakes on both axles, which being larger in size, and being coupled with similar braking aids, the truck manages to stop at 119 ft, significantly lower than the Maverick. The Frontier is the heaviest among all, while equipped with considerably smaller brakes, yet covers less distance than that Ford. Overall, each and every truck here performs better than the Ford Maverick, when it comes to braking performance, one of the most important aspects to consider. Ford really should pay attention to this deficiency if they really intend to win the market.

Fuel Economy
6.6/10

Due to being configured with front-wheel drive, and unibody construction, the '24 Ford Maverick returns quite a good mpg rating. Known for easy driving in the urban jungle, this truck can run for 23 miles around the town with its EcoBoost engine. On the highway too, it's a pleasure to drive a truck that can cruise for 30 miles per gallon. Driving any car is a bliss when we don't have to visit the gas stations every now and then. The '24 Ford Maverick can cruise for 495 miles at most, while with combined driving, the figure changes to 412.5 miles. And with the attainable range around the town, you've no need to visit gas pumps for quite a few days, probably two, three weeks, unless you cover a long distance on a daily basis.

While the 2024 Ford Maverick scores the least in the braking performance, when it comes to efficiency, no one beats the truck. As mentioned before, it drives like a car. Equipped with the smallest tank, the truck provides the longest range among all, in every aspect, whether per gallon figures are counted, or overall range. The '24 Santa Cruz scores the 2nd, returning an mpg rating of 22/26/23, and a range of 460 miles at most. In the midsize segment, the Frontier provides a better range and efficiency although it makes the highest output. The Toyota Tacoma 2023 scores better in city running but falls short of every other aspect. The whole efficiency scenario is kind of the opposite of what we expected.

Interior
6.6/10

Being the SuperCrew, the 2024 Ford Maverick is quite spacious inside, while being crafted with quality materials. A modern and versatile interior is designed for comfort and convenience, in the all-new Maverick. Proper storage outlets are there, and the seats, being cushioned and wide, provide comfortable support to the passengers. The 2024 Ford Maverick can seat up to 5 people, however, it's advisable to limit the number to 4 only for better experience, unless the situation demands so. Although a bed is there at the back, there is considerable under-seat storage to place long items. The rear seats can be flat-folded. Additionally, there are several compartments and pockets strategically placed throughout the cabin for storing personal belongings. Depending on the trims, the seats are multiple-way adjustable, either powered or manually. The Lariat also offers heated bucket seats and a heated steering wheel for a more comfortable experience. Dual-zone climate control is there, along with an external temperature display, and to get in and out of the truck, a remote and proximity keyless entry has been given.

Every truck mentioned here is quite spacious, holding up to 5 people inside comfortably. While the midsize ones are limited to 4 people only, the compact ones walk an extra mile to occupy 5 passengers. On the first row, Maverick provides better headroom and legroom, while the shoulder area is better in Tacoma, followed by Frontier and Santa Cruz. Coming to the 2nd row, all 4 offer cramped seating. That's why we've suggested sitting only 4 in the compact trucks. Among the quad, the same scenario can be observed, with Tacoma offering a wider area, while both Maverick and Santa Cruz top in the headroom, and legroom, respectively.

Infotainment System of the 2024 Ford Maverick

Without an infotainment system, any journey seems aimless and boring, be it in a truck or car. The 2024 Maverick base model, in terms of the same, is not any Spartan, but not better too. The XL trim offers a 6-speaker music system, an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and a pair of 12V DC power supplies at the front and rear consoles. With trim upgradation, the number of features increases. In short, for the best experience, either get the mid or top trim, if you want everything factory loaded, otherwise get the base trim, and customize it with the packages available. The Ford Co-Pilot 360 is available for extra $650 bucks, get that, and save the bucks for the lateral modifications.

  • 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Ford Co-Pilot 360

Exterior
6.6/10

When we get to see the RAM trucks, or the GMC, or the Ford F-Series, all of them appear quite bold, masculine and extremely desirable. Well, things are not the same with the Maverick. The 2024 Ford Maverick does not look like the Alpha or Sigma personality, rather it's more of the sweet, nice guy that you can't ignore. It's not bold, but rather kind of sober. There's a touch of sophistication at every sight. The front fascia features a distinctive hexagonal grille painted in black, coupled with the iconic Ford emblem. The sleek LED headlights exude both style and exceptional visibility. The hexagonal-styled indicators are placed between the grille and the headlights, making the face bolder, and sharper while being sober. The sculpted hood lines add a touch of sportiness and exude the performance capability of Maverick. Coming to the sides, the sleek lines contribute to the dynamic control of the truck while the large alloy or steel wheels boost the confidence. Although a truck, the silhouette is designed in a way that makes the truck quite fuel efficient, as we've seen in the above section. At the rear, the '24 Maverick equips a moderately long bed of 4.5 ft, with 4.4 ft of width, and 1.6 ft of height, capable of holding regular household items, and that of the small business. In short, it's not as big as we find in the regular cab, but convenient enough to run a small business. However, a slightly bigger bed would be better appreciated.

Driving without proper safety measurements in today's society is nothing less than attempting suicide. In the USA, we have quite a big chunk of freaky drivers who drive like the last day on Earth. And among them, if the vehicle you are driving is not armed with a tough body and a range of safety features, then it may end up very badly. The 2024 Ford Maverick, thus is loaded w/ an array of safety specs, while scoring 4-star in the test conducted by NHTSA. Being unibody constructed, this compact truck is quite robust in between the panels. Talking about the measurements, the 2024 Maverick is armed with 7 airbags for all 5 insiders and mechanized with proper traction and stability control to make the drive safer in wet and snowy conditions. It does not corner like a pro but is quite stable at high speeds. To keep eyes over the surroundings, a blind spot monitor has been given, along with active lane keep assist to keep the truck on the right lane so that it does not hit the other cars. For proper parking, there are sensors installed on the rear bumper, and to make it more convenient, you may install a camera too. Go wherever you want, the 24 Maverick will keep you safe.

  • 7 airbags
  • Blind spot monitor
  • Active lane keep assist
  • Traction and stability control
  • Rear parking sensors
  • TPMS warning lamp

Competition
7.5/10

2024 Ford Maverick Vs. 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz

Both competing in the compact truck segment, the 2024 Santa Cruz and the 2024 Maverick are excellent offerings from two of the biggest automakers in the USA. The 2024 Maverick, if talking about the power delivery, is more powerful and literally delivers an exhilarating and thrilling experience, whenever pedaled. However, the same truck falls short of the tow rating to the Santa Cruz. It seems the Maverick XL is made more for hauling rather than towing. However, a tow package is there for $745, install it if you have requirements. Coming inside, both are comfortable with a seating of 5 people, although 4 is better, however, we found the Marverick is more comfortable than that of the Hyundai. At the same time, there are probably no truck makers in the USA that can beat the Hyundai in terms of features. Between the two, the Hyundai Santa Cruz appears more like an SUV with an open-back, while the Maverick is designed like the conventional trucks that we are habituated with. In short, both are great at respective terms, get your priorities right, and buy the most suitable one.

2024 Ford Maverick Vs. 2023 2023 Toyota Tacoma

While one contends in the compact truck segment, and the other is presented as a midsize truck, the 2024 Maverick and the 2023 Tacoma, although are not direct competitors, but in terms of power output, the Maverick scores better than the Tacoma, while the latter is a better choice for hardcore trucking. Be it hauling or towing, Tacoma always has an upper hand, but having unibody construction, it’s more pleasurable to ride in the Maverick, although that of Toyota is wider. Both are loaded with specs, and features, and are also priced almost similarly, but when it comes to hardcore towing and trucking, the 2023 Tacoma Double Cab is always a better choice. And if your job is limited to urban jungles mostly, stick to the Maverick.

2024 Ford Maverick vs. 2023 Nissan Frontier

Nissan markets the Frontier as a midsize truck with the capabilities of a full size counterpart. Well, they don’t lie. Indeed, the Frontier acts as one of those. The power output is great for towing and hauling, and among all the mentioned trucks, the Frontier tows way more than any of them. If comparing it with the Maverick, then the latter is nowhere near the Frontier, although they are priced quite closely. Being a compact FWD truck, the 2024 Maverick is priced around $24K, and the 2023 Frontier is $5K more than the same. Ride quality is better with the Frontier, although the unibody structure and cushioned seats work like a bliss with the Maverick. Basically, in every aspect, the Frontier rules. But get this only if you have that much requirement, otherwise the 2024 Ford Maverick works just fine, in fact better than many cars and SUVs. The Maverick is purely for those who are looking for a family car with the practicality of a truck, and it does that job very well.

Final Verdict

The 2024 Ford Maverick is one of the few family haulers that combines the best of both worlds. It packs an exciting engine that while delivering an exhilarating power, is fuel efficiency too. The cabin is spacious, and loaded with amenities. Built tough and being armed with a range of safety features, the truck is quite safe too to drive at high speeds, although maintaining the safe speed is advisable. This compact truck while being a truck, meant for business, is also a perfect family mover, with a spacious cabin, loaded amenities and a proportionate bed to carry things. If this 2024 Ford Maverick ticks the boxes of your requirements, better get it over other cars and SUVs.
