Overview

The Nissan Maxima is enthroned for its classy interior, sporty handling, visceral power, and a suite of driver assistance features making it a perfect blend for a full-size sedan. The Nissan feels much lighter on its wheels than other sedans which makes it a capable partner for driving in hilly road conditions. Along with that, it is poised with a floating roofline, upscale quality materials, and a smooth flowing curve profile.

Buying Advice

We will recommend the Platinum trim, as it adds a full list of added features that justifies its price tag which includes a power-adjustable steering column, heated rear seats, wood interior trim, leather upholstery with diamond-quilted inserts, and rear power sunshade.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2023 Nissan Maxima doesn’t offer any significant changes from the 2022 Nissan Maxima, however, it is a part of the eighth Maxima generation that has been introduced in the year 2016. Furthermore, Nissan has announced that the 2023 Maxima will be its final model year. Nissan Maxima hasn’t released any information related to the pricing or trim levels but we expect it to be the same as the brand’s current structure which may start around an MSRP of $40,000 and can range up to $45,000 for the top trim. In this segment, it will always face competition against the likes of the Chrysler 300, the Dodge Charger, and the Volkswagen Arteon.

Features
7.0/10

The 2023 Nissan Maxima is a carryover model of the Nissan Maxima 2022 that was fully redesigned in the year 2016, which means that it should retain the trim specifications and features that have been included in the previous build. There are a lot of potent features offered in the Nissan Maxima which consists of three different trims which are SV, SR, and Platinum. The base trim starts at an estimated MSRP of $40,000 which can range up to a maximum of $45,000. It comes along with a standard set of specifications such as 18-inch machine-finished alloy wheels, chrome quad-tipped exhaust finishers, dual-zone automatic temperature control with rear vents, tilt/telescoping steering column, heated front seats, and leather-appointed seats.

The VW Arteon outperforms all its adversaries with better fuel economy of 24 MPG in the city, 34 MPG on the highway, and 28 MPG combined. Furthermore, it offers a range of 592 miles on the highway so that you don’t have to unnecessarily think about refilling gas and enjoy a quality ride. However, it lurks at the bottom with a low gas tank capacity of 17.4 gallons. On the other hand, the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger offer an equivalent and a much better fuel tank capacity of 18.5 gallons. When comparing all the statistics, we can say that the 2022 Volkswagen Arteon has better fuel efficiency than its adversaries.

Interior
6.0/10

The Nissan Maxima can offer a seating capacity of up to five passengers with a well-executed cabin that is full of upscale and soft-touch materials, simple controls, and top-notch features. Furthermore, it offers a V-shaped dashboard that connects to an extended center console while the shift paddlers and flat-bottom steering wheel provide a sportier touch on the inside. It offers best-in-class front seat legroom, and the front seats are spacious and comforting with adequate side bolstering that keeps occupants in place while driving around corners.

The rear seats are taller and adults may feel uncomfortable with much less headroom and legroom. The trunk of the Maxima measures 14.3 cubic feet, which is less than several midrange cars followed by some other large cars, however, the rear seats may be folded to increase the available space and pack simple stuff easily. Some standard specifications include heated front seats, leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver's seat, and a four-way power front passenger seat.

16.3 cu-ft

16.5 cu-ft

27.2 cu-ft

The Volkswagen Arteon offers the maximum cargo capacity of 27.2 cu-ft, which you can easily find in a small SUV, although that volume is achieved by the Arteon with greater cargo length and less height. On the other hand, the Nissan Maxima has the least cargo capacity of 14.3 cu-ft than its adversaries, it lags behind in both small-item storage as well as in trunk capacity. However, the space offered in the front headroom and legroom is much better than its rivals while the same cannot be said for its second row which offers a cramped space.

Some key interior features are

  • Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control with rear vents.
  • Heated front seats.
  • Satin Chrome faceted interior trim.
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel.
  • Leather-appointed seats.
  • Tilt/telescoping steering column.

How intuitive is the 2023 Nissan Maxima Infotainment system?

The 2023 Nissan Maxima retains the infotainment features from the 2022 Nissan Maxima. It comes with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen as standard which is user-friendly and simple to use, while it also offers redundant buttons on the center stack for quick access to common adjustments such as audio and volume controls.

Some of the salient key infotainment features include

  • A 7-inch advanced driver-assist display.
  • A 8-color touch-screen display.
  • Nissan Connect with Wifi-hotspot.
  • AM/FM/CD audio system with eight speakers.
  • Apple CarPlay integration and Android Auto compatibility.
  • One USB-A port and one USB-C port.

Exterior
7.0/10

The Nissan Maxima beholds a bold and stunning aerodynamic profile with a seductive shape that draws the attention of most buyers. With the brand's powerful V-shaped grille, angular headlights, four exhaust outlets, and jagged taillights, the sedan offers one of the sportier looks in the class. The Maxima has a floating-roof look thanks to the black C-pillar and swooping lines. It is also equipped with an adequate wheelbase that measures 109.3 inches which makes it more stable while accelerating at high speed.

The highest ground clearance can be seen in the Nissan Maxima that measures 5.3 inches which helps the vehicle go off-road, along with that wheels get more vertical room to absorb road shocks. On the other hand, the Chrysler 300 offers a large wheelbase that measures 120.2 inches and has better exterior dimensions when compared to its adversaries. Furthermore, its material quality is good and its stunning front grille look always come across the street in style.

Some key exterior features are

  • 18-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels.
  • Chrome quad-tipped exhaust finishers.
  • Heated outside mirrors with LED turn signal indicators.
  • LED headlights with LED signature daytime running lights.
  • Taillights with integrated LED signature.
  • Intelligent auto headlights.

Safety
8.0/10

A variety of standard features are available in the 2022 Nissan Maxima which continues to remain the same for the 2023 Nissan Maxima which comes with a standard set of specifications including emergency braking, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control. Competition

2023 Nissan Maxima vs 2022 Chrysler 300

The Chrysler 300 and the Nissan Maxima both have fantastic looks and strike an excellent mix between comfort and performance. When compared to the Chrysler 300, the Nissan Maxima uses a user-friendly touch screen with excellent resolution and large icons to make it possible for drivers to see the display properly without straining their eyes. NissanConnect is easy to use because of its straightforward menu structure. On the other hand, the Chrysler 300 offers a better trunk size capacity and better exterior dimensions, however, it compensates with a low engine performance than its counterpart.

2023 Nissan Maxima vs 2022 Dodge Charger

The Nissan Maxima uses an overhead cam architecture instead of the outdated pushrod style of some of the engines in the Dodge Charger for smoother operation, higher efficiency, and fewer moving parts. Furthermore, the 3.5 DOHC V6 in the Maxima generates 8 more horsepower and 1 lbs.-ft. greater torque than the Dodge Charger. The Maxima offers front and rear vented disc brakes while the Dodger Charger rear brakes are solid not vented.

2023 Nissan Maxima vs 2022 Volkswagen Arteon

The Volkswagen Arteon offers better fuel economy when compared to the Nissan Maxima, and offers a powerful 2.0L Inline4 engine that offers an equivalent 300 hp, and better engine torque of 291 lb-ft. On the other hand, the Nissan Maxima offers better exterior styling and a luxurious cabin than its counterpart.

Final Verdict

Yes, we recommend the 2023 Nissan Maxima offers a more polished, smart interior, generous technology features, and strong performance making it a competitive edge in its class and is ranked in the top five sedan recommendations for the year 2023 making it difficult to match against its rivals.
