Overview

Based on the GLA, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA is one of the latest products in the brand’s line-up. The car will not only be the most affordable electric vehicle from the German automaker, but it will also serve as a practical option for anyone who is looking for a car for urban usage. Just like the GLA, the EQA too will be launched with a long list of features, comfortable and a premium cabin, and an extremely attractive exterior design. Moreover, the EQA is also expected to be the most premium offering in the segment.

Buying Advice

The EQA in the Premium trim would be the best option. AWD can be opted for extra power and grip along with added stability. The Premium trim is expected to be priced around $62,000 and comes as a mid-level trim. The detailed list of options is not available yet, but the Premium trim would be properly equipped.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The EQA starts at around $57,00 and comes with a single-motor electric powertrain coupled with a 66.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 1-speed direct-drive transmission. In a segment dominated by the already established Tesla Model Y the EQA along with the Ford Mustang Mach E and EVs from the Volkswagen family are now the latest competitors. Well, with that being said, what can we expect from the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQA? Read on to find out.

Features

The EQA is expected to come in three variants, namely Progressive, Premium, and Advanced. But the detailed trims feature list of the exact pricing is not available at this time. The EQA is also expected to come in a range-optimized version as well as in an AWD configuration later on. As of now, we will be covering the EQA-250 FWD version, which will be the first one to launch.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

While the performance figures from the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA are not very impressive, the overall range offered by the car on a single charge is definitely one of the best in the segment. The car gets a claimed range of 265 miles from the 66.5 kWh battery pack, which is definitely appreciable. A quick comparison of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQA with its rivals can be seen in the table below:

The new Model Y definitely comes out to be the most efficient car in its class, and in addition to this, also offers the convenience of fast charging to further make it a practical choice for urban dwellers. However, the EQA isn’t too far behind either when it comes to the overall range. The 2021 ID.4 Pro also follows with the third-best range, while the Ford Mustang Mach-E has the least range.

Interior
6.0/10

Mercedes-Benz is known for its premium and luxurious interiors that can be instantly felt as soon as you step inside the cabin. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA will be no different. In addition to a modern dashboard layout and large screens at the center, the 2022 EQA also boasts premium quality parts and components with segment-leading fit and finish levels. There will be soft-to-touch plastics, high-quality leather, and a number of other features inside the cabin. The front seats are expected to be offered with power adjustability, while the steering wheel too will offer the same.

In addition to this, just like the GLA, the cabin of the EQA is expected to be spacious and comfortable. Moreover, the visibility from the inside is expected to remain one of the best in the segment. On the features front, the upcoming EQA is expected to be offered with features like ambient lighting, wireless charging, sunroof, etc. The seats will be ventilated and heated, while the cushioning and overall support from these seats too will be impressive. All in all, the cabin of the 2022 EQA will definitely be the most premium and comfortable cabin in its class.

Considering the fact that the EQA would be the most luxurious and premium SUV in the comparison, it might as have the best cabin with the best interior elements and available customization options. The cargo area measurements of the EQA are not available yet for a comparison of luggage space. Some of the notable interior features offered are mentioned below:

The audio setup is expected to remain premium with impressive audio quality. The base variants are expected to sport smaller 7-inch screens. Some of the highlight features are:

  • 12.25-inch infotainment screen
  • 12.25-inch Digital gauge cluster
  • Augmented Reality for navigation
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Bluetooth Connectivity

Exterior
5.0/10

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA appears to be one of the most elegant-looking in its segment and gets a subtle yet aggressive stance. The blacked-out parts at the front, in addition to the LED treatment throughout, give it a unique identity and differentiate it from the standard GLA. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA also boasts a premium build quality and is offered with almost all the bells and whistles. From the sides, the 19-inch alloy wheels are the center of attraction and complement the overall design of the vehicle.

The lower variants of the EQA are expected to feature smaller 18-inch wheels, while 20-inch alloys may be available in the higher trims. The EQA definitely looks more like a normal, stylish SUV rather than a futuristic plain-looking EV. This might attract more buyers considering the fact that many of the EV’s, from Tesla in specific, look so plain and too simple. More details about the car will be available post the launch.

In terms of dimensions, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA is at par with the segment standards, but cars like the Mach-E are definitely larger and have a more imposing road presence. However, the EQA is one of the best-looking EVs in the segment with an overall sleeker and elegant exterior. The curb weight of the EQA is not available yet for comparison, but as of now, the Volkswagen ID.4 is the heaviest among the competition. Some of the exterior highlights include:

  • LED headlights and Taillights with fiber optic light bars
  • Piano black grille panel
  • Power-folding side mirrors
  • 18/19/20-inch alloy wheels
  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • Aluminum Roof Rails

Safety
2.0/10

The 2022 EQA is built upon the GLA’s platform, which has already proven to be an impressively safe vehicle. High-strength/low-alloy (HSLA) and ultra-high-strength & press-hardened sheet steel are used in critical areas of the structure such as the roof pillars, floor and roof cross-members, door beams, and various other body reinforcements of the platforms. As expected from a Mercedes, the EQA is expected to feature a plethora of safety features, including active brake assist, attention assist, blind-spot assist, and crosswind assist. The platform is a tried and tested one, and no one has any doubts about the impeccable build quality of any Mercedes. The following are the other safety features expected to be in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA-

  • Adaptive braking technology
  • Brake Assist (BAS)
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
  • Electronic Traction System
  • Electric parking brake

Final Verdict

If you are in the market to buy a compact electric vehicle that offers high levels of luxury, a roomy cabin, and an exclusive character, the 2022Mercedes-Benz EQA may just be a great choice. The car not only looks good but will also drive well and will definitely offer a premium experience to the buyers. However, for those who want to have a car that offers better performance, rivals like the Tesla Model Y are better. All in all, the EQA is definitely a superb overall vehicle in the segment filled with more luxury and quality than the competition.
