Overview

Toyota’s family favorite midsize sedan was redesigned and enhanced just last year. However, the 2019 Toyota Camry does receive some improvements. Some much needed features like Apple Carplay, WiFi hotspot and three year support to Safety Connect are offered. The 2019 Toyota Camry XLE and XSE trims get access to an 8-inch touchscreen display and wireless charging as standard. The 2019 Toyota Camry price starts at $24,095 and an additional $955 is applicable as destination charges.

Featuring a 5-trim lineup of L, LE, SE, XLE, and XSE, the 2019 Toyota Camry MSRP can be an expense of $25,050-$30,680 this season. Having said that, it simply translates to the fact that the range-leader 2019 Toyota Camry XSE will cost you $5,630 more than the 2019 Toyota Camry L for enhanced specs and assets.

We Recommend

Considering the list of features and specifications, the Camry XLE trim stands out to be the most suitable trim. Also, the available V-6 engine makes it more performance-oriented.

Every Camry model gets a 2.5-liter engine with 203 horsepower. The optional V6 engine with 301 horsepower is available with the XLE and XSE trims. The 2019 Camry interior boasts practicality with a trunk space of up to 15.1 cubic feet. With a fuel economy of up to 34 mpg (combined), Toyota’s sedan is pocket-friendly. However, the 2019 Camry Hybrid mpg of 52 mpg (combined) is superlative. The Camry 2019 offers better performance than the Ford Fusion, better fuel economy than the Chevrolet Malibu and better rear seat legroom than the Nissan Altima.

2019 Toyota Camry for sale

The 2019 Toyota Camry L can be leased for a term of 36 months with $346/month and $2,505 due at signing along with an annual mileage limit of 10,000 miles. The same model can be financed for a term of 48 months for as low as 3.49% APR with $532/month and $2,505 down payment. The final APR can be lower or higher depending on the credit score profile of the customer, term duration and additional offers.

For budget-oriented buyers, the used 2019 Toyota Camry can be availed of with a base price of $11,950. Going for older model years like the 2018 Toyota Camry could be a matter of $12,000 and Toyota Camry 2017 can cost as much as $9,785 along with a listing of up to 23,754 in total

Buying Advice

The base trim Camry would have been a great choice if it had those better alloys and powered seat adjustments. The XLE trim with the optional V-6 engine would be a good buy as it gets all the creature comforts, a bigger touchscreen, better suspension, paddle shifters, and a heads-up display. Why not get the more economical 2.5L? Well, it is a great engine for daily drives but having that extra V-6 power is always better than compromising power for better fuel economy.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2019 Toyota Camry is mostly carried over unchanged after it was put through considerable changes last year. With adequate performance from sizeable engines, a capacious interior space, and also top-notch Toyota reliability, the 2019 Camry is still the go-to practical midsize sedan for a majority of buyers along with its arch-rival, the Honda Accord. For 2019 the Camry also gets Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and a 3-year Safety Connect Subscription as standard options for all trims. But as they say, nothing is perfect, Toyota has left some crevasses in their features list as well and those might reflect on your purchase decision. The 2019 Camry is standing up against the Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Malibu, and Nissan Altima.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Fuel efficiency would be the foremost reason for buying a Toyota Camry. The base 2.5L engine provides the best-in-class city and highway mileage of 28 and 39 miles to the gallon respectively. The Camry Hybrid powertrain returns a staggering 51 MPG in the city and 53 MPG on the highway. Camry however lacks a little on the fuel tank capacity having the smallest one in the segment at 14.5 gallons. Still, it has a better overall range than the competition.

The Chevrolet Malibu manages to return great city fuel economy and it isn’t far in terms of highway economy compared to the Camry. What Malibu lacks in the fuel economy department, it balances out with the overall fuel capacity. Ford Fusion and Nissan Altima both have the biggest fuel tanks of the lot which puts the combined driving range of the Altima over 600 miles.

Interior
7.0/10

The interior of the 2019 Camry is filled with soft-touch materials. The doors and dashboard are covered in a mix of hard plastic and soft-touch materials for the hand rests. The dashboard design of the 2019 Toyota Camry is futuristic. The infotainment system is situated in a Y-shaped design cutout and has a glossy finish and all the controls are present in this little area. The seats are cloth upholstered on the base trim and are only manually adjustable. The upgraded leather seats get power adjustments and have minimal bolstering to support the driver and passenger.

Headroom and legroom on the first row are plenty but the seats are situated low to the floor making your knees bend quite a lot. Second-row seats are flat for the most part but on such cars, practicality makes more sense than individual comfort. The interior storage spaces on the Camry are your usual ones like a center storage space for the smartphone along with charging. Cup holders for every passenger and sleeve pockets behind the seats. The door bins are not really practical, just there for the sake of being there.

The standard cargo-carrying capacity of 14.1 cu. ft with the 2019 Camry is average in this class but seats can be folded to create more space. The seat folding mechanism is flawed on the Camry as the passthrough gap is narrow and the seats don’t fold flush with the cargo bed; there is a significant step over. So, the actual usable space is very limited after the folding of seats also.

The 2019 Camry comes with 2 display options, a 7.0-inch touchscreen and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay as standard. Android Auto will be added later on. The touchscreen works well and is responsive but the glossy finish sometimes makes it difficult to see in bright conditions. The base sound system is good enough and an optional JBL sound system which is rather great is available on higher trims.

Exterior
7.0/10

The 2019 Toyota Camry certainly looks striking. The front end of the car is the star here with that big grille and a slim headlight setup. The hood has quite a lot of body lines but they lead to nowhere; it’s the only overdone part of this car. When you don’t actually have much power under the hood, show it on the hood, that’s the idea maybe. The rear fascia is also pleasing to the eye. Overall it’s a clean design. The elongated tail light setup and CAMRY badging in the middle do look nice. On the higher trims, the bumper has a body-colored air diffuser and twin port quad-tip exhaust tips.

Overall, the 2019 Camry has an elegant exterior design for the Base trims and the higher trims get sportier treatments, pleasing everyone. A good ride height gives the driver a good view of the road ahead but the 2019 Camry has a relatively low height. The low height might improve aerodynamics but will hinder all-around visibility. Ford Fusion has the widest stance in the segment, making it look staunch, more muscular, and aggressive.

IIHS has given Camry the Top Safety Pick+ award as it has got a Good rating in every category tested, including the optional frontal crash prevention systems. The ratings are incredible. Let's see what active safety features the 2019 Camry has installed so as to avoid such instances altogether.

Competition
7.0/10

2019 Toyota Camry vs 2019 Ford Fusion

The Toyota Camry is one of the most popular sedans worldwide because of its reliability and comfortable driving experience. And for 2019 the driving dynamics have certainly improved. The Ford Fusion has a weak base engine; along with fuel economy being disastrous. But the Fusion still looks great and if you can get the 2.0L turbo engine it closes the performance gap by a lot.

2019 Toyota Camry vs 2019 Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima is a well-equipped sedan even in its base trims. The design of this car leans towards elegance. The set of standard safety features and infotainment features is better than the Camry. The seats on the Nissan are better with a lot more bolstering as standard. The Nissan Altima is a well-weighted contender for the Camry, even better than in some aspects.

Final Verdict

The Toyota Camry has been a great sedan since its introduction and over the years it has improved a lot. The dull feeling steering wheel is now gone and the car feels better to drive. The design language has improved especially in the XLE and XSE trims. Fuel economy is the point of focus for the buyers in this segment and the Camry impresses everyone and bests its rivals. The infotainment system is a bit lackluster but one can’t deny the whole package, and the value it brings to the table just for a small thing. The 2019 Toyota Camry is a true family sedan that is better than ever before.
