Overview

The 2019 Honda Civic Sedan enters the space with an updated trim level after adding the all-new Sport trim beside the older LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring configurations. Having the Honda Sensing Technology standard for this season across the lineup, the Honda Civic MSRP starts at a reasonable $20,505 for the same 158 hp 2.0 L and 174 hp 1.5L Turbo I-4 powerhouses. And this narration stays unchanged for its line leader mileage of 42 MPG as well.

2019 Honda Civic Sedan Buying Advice

The Honda Civic 2019, though, remains the same in major domains but the upgrade in its safety gears is undeniable. Making the Honda Sensing available at all trims makes the 2019 MY a superior choice over its predecessors for sure, even if that means spending an extra $670.

The Honda Civic Sedan 2019 horsepower rumbles against the impressive practicality of other 5-seater sedans such as the Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, and the Nissan Sentra. But its interior fashion of leather and cloth upholsteries along with a cargo capacity of 15.1 cu-ft is going to bolster its argument against them just like its top speed range of 115 MPH-130 MPH.

2019 Honda Civic for sale

The 2019 Civic LX has been listed at a price of at least $265/month for 72 months which can increase to a monthly payment of  $492/month for 36 months. While the Civic EX 2019 can be availed of at a minimum of $275/month for 72 months.

Buying Advice

The EX trim of the 2019 Honda Civic is the best one to have among all as it is an upgrade in terms of safety over the lower trim and comfort convenience. Also, it is at par with the higher one in entertainment and interior involvement to a large extent. So, it comes to be a mix of everything at a reasonable price tag.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2019 Honda Civic Sedan can be considered decently reliable in its quality and build composition with its J.D power rating of 81. That being said, its inclination towards enhanced safety with Honda Sensing right from the Civic LX configuration is also commendable while the interior tech-ends are as useful as they have ever been regarding the segment.

In terms of spending, the Honda Civic LX 2019 has a fuel expense of $7,826 along with a maintenance of $3,336 and repair of $1,658. While the depreciation cost goes at $9,698 for the same after 5 years of ownership. In addition, such investments could as high as $12,381 in resale value depreciation and $1,996 for repairs for the Civic Touring 2019 Sedan.

Features
8.0/10

The 2019 Civic Sedan boasts a 5-trim level option on offer starting with the LX edition that gets the 4-speaker audio system, 5-inch infotainment display, and Honda Sensing. Spending an extra $1,700 brings the all-new Sport trim into the limelight that features 18-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch infotainment system, and HondaLink.

The Honda Civic EX is next in line with starter assets like the Honda LaneWatch system, heated front seats, and an 8-speaker audio unit over the lower trims with an investment of $24,455. The price tag of EX-L gets even higher at $25,655 for virtues such as Leather upholstery and a power-adjustable front row. While the Touring configuration enshrines heated rear seats and a 10-speaker premium sound system for $28,355 MSRP.

8.5/10

The 2019 Honda Civic MPG has been rated at 25/36/29 MPG by the EPA in the city/highway/combined for its 158 hp 2.0L I-4 engine when coupled with manual transmission. But the 174 hp 1.5 T I-4 not only has a better power surge, but it is also more efficient too as the fuel economy fares at 32/42/36 MPG respectively.

Interior

"Rethink what you know about the Honda Civic- its no longer the small car you may remember." -TheCarConnection

The Honda Civic 2019 interior has been packed with premium leather seats for the EX-L and Touring trims while the rest gets nothing more than those cloth seats. Moreover, there is an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat along with a power-adjustable passenger seat for the same EX-L and Touring editions. While the 2019 Honda Civic LX has to go with a mediocre 6-way driver and 4-way passenger manual adjustable ones just like EX and Sport trims.

Coming on the comfort side, the Honda Civic EX specs heated front seats with driver's power-adjustability. In the meantime, the Touring is a space of power heating at 2nd row too exclusively but the dual-zone automatic climate control goes handy for EX, EX-L, and Touring, all. We have got a cargo capacity of 15.1 cu-ft as well to keep our baggage and suitcases.

Apart from these, Honda comes with a 4-speaker audio unit to rile up your musical sense for the LX and Sport configuration.

Adding 4 more speakers to the standard one makes up for the 8-speaker audio that has been made available for the 2019 Honda Civic Sedan EXL CVT and EX. While the Civic Touring fits in a 10-speaker audio unit with an integrated Honda Satellite Navigation. And for infotainment, the LX is the only one to feature the 5-inch infotainment display that upgrades to the 7-inch inside the ambiance of Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring.

"The 2019 Honda Civic's shape is daring and innovative." - Kelley Blue Book

The Civic specs to be a slightly different sedan from last year with the updated lower front end. But the automatic projector halogen headlights for the 2019 Civic LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L go unchanged. And the LED headlights continue to replace them for the Honda Civic 2019 Touring along with exclusive 18-inch wheels having Gloss Shark Gray inserts. Honda fixes rear lip spoiler on the back as well from Sport configuration onwards.

Moreover, the Grey Honda Civic sedan is further enhanced in looks with other radiance options that have shades over 7 colors such as the Silver and Green ones. That being said, the Honda Civic wheels include the likes of the 16-inch steel, 16-inch alloy, and 17-inch alloy wheels for the rest of the lineup as well. However, the sunroof and power heated side-view mirror is availed of for the EX and other trim levels only.

As far as the ground clearance is concerned, the Corolla his 1.7 inches higher than the Civic while the Sentra is 1.4 inches, making both of the rivals' underbody panels safe from the undulations of the tracks.

Safety
8.5/10

The 2019 Honda Civic safety rating has continued to be an overall NHTSA 5-star and IIHS "Good" in the respective crash tests. Though it blinks with a "Poor" rating in its headlight functionality by the IIHS that could have exempted it from the "Top Safety Pick" award this year, its newly standardized Honda Sensing Technology makes up for all those shortcomings quite easily. Some of the notable safety features have been mentioned below:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Electronic Brake Distribution
  • Lane departure warning and lane-keep assist
  • Honda LaneWatch
  • Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control.

Competition
9.0/10

2019 Honda Civic vs 2019 Mazda 3

The 2019 Honda Civic sedan features to be equally efficient in comparison to the 2019 Mazda 3 but it struggles in having better overall range despite the fact that the latter has got more power. However, it seems to have more cabin space and cargo capacity along with parallel touches altogether. Holistically, both of them are equally desirable.

2019 Honda Civic vs 2019 Toyota Corolla

The Honda Civic 2019 is surely faster than the Corolla in terms of acceleration but that takes a toll on its fuel economy, thus daily commute range. Not just that, its cabin is also relatively smaller than the Corolla but has got better cargo capacity to get your luggage. Speaking of technology, there is not a major gap as such, thereby, making stand at the same level in this parameter. However, on the whole, Corolla 2019 gets the preference.

2019 Honda Civic vs 2019 Nissan Sentra

The 2019 Nissan Sentra feels sluggish in its maneuvering when it is pitted against the Honda Civic 2019 Sedan. Apart from that, they don't really make up for any difference as they return same economy along with same seating space for the 5-seater and interior tech-ends to a large extent. Therefore, one can go for either of them.

Final Verdict

The 2019 Civic Sedan is spot-on as per the segment with its impressive fuel economy, safety assets, and power performance. The available upgrades across the trim lineup are also noteworthy and so is the interior technology for engagement. Therefore, Civic Sedan should be given consideration for a family of 5.
