... Toyota Camry and loved the car, which led me to purchase a 2019 Camry. It has been the worst car I have ever owned!!!! It has transmission issues since day 1, bluetooth/stereo issues, the WORST NAVIGATION SYSTEM EVER (not user friendly at all and gives really bad directions), and every time I turn around something else is going wrong. SAFETY ISSUE: In stop and go traffic, traveling at slow speeds, if changing to a faster lane, having the gas floored,Read More

The Toyota Camry is an excellent midsize car that is affordable and has plenty of features. With a powerful engine, composed ride quality, and plenty of standard features, the positives are all there. In terms of reliability; the mileage is one of the best out there. However, there have been issues with the Camry in terms of reliability. Plenty of users have complained about the Camry brakes and fuel system, but the most concerning of all is the incorrect deployment of airbags. As of this date, officially, there have been 6 different recalls, 4 of them being the similar kind, and 186 complaints overall. With the Kia Optima and the Hyundai Sonata being Toyota’s competition, how does the Camry fair against its competitors? Let’s find out.

2019 Toyota Camry User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Problems

  • Engine -. Various users of the 2019 Toyota Camry have stated that the engine has stalled while in operations. When cross-checked with the dealership or any other expert, it was indicated that this was due to a problematic fuel pump. There have also been complaints about oil leaks. Toyota has launched a recall on this matter, with the fuel pump referring to NHTSA ID: 20V012000 & 20V682000.
  • Brakes -. For plenty of users, the brakes fail to comply with the needs of the user. At times, the brakes would not work when put into action by the user. Unusual need to depress the brakes a bit more than needed previously, random brake warning lights, and so forth. Some users have got it examined by the dealership, to which they indicate there would be a problem with the vacuum pump. Toyota is already aware of this flaw and has made recalls; referenced by NHTSA ID 21V890000 on this matter.
  • Steering - Users have stated that the steering has frozen, or stopped to comply with the user's needs at times during operations. Users also had problems with the power steering as well. So far no injuries have been reported by the complainants.

Electrical Problems

  • Accelerator - Acceleration delays, improper response to compression of the gas pedal, car jerking when accelerating at low speeds, are the common problems faced by various users. So far no injuries have been caused due to this.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - This was the most concerning problem faced and has been faced by multiple users. It was stated that during times of accidents, the airbags failed to deploy, especially the side front airbags. However, another type of airbag failed to do so as well. Major injuries were faced by multiple users and minor by others. This can be due to the wrong calibration with the OCS system, a recall has been done by Toyota on this matter and you can refer to NHTSA ID 19V567000 for more details.
  • Seatbelts - The pre-tensioner of the seatbelts failed for one user, and had to be replaced.

Should you buy the 2019 Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is a highly rated car in the affordable midsize sedan segment, but with the major problems revolving around safety, it would be wise to reconsider. The airbags, brakes, and fuel pump failure are not something to take lightly, as this can potentially happen mid-operation and can seriously harm the occupants of the vehicles. We would suggest you go for an alternative like the Kia Optima or the Hyundai Sonata, both of which have fewer complaints and recalls, combined with the Toyota Camry.
