Overview

The Porsche Cayenne has always been a fun-to-drive SUV with multiple powertrain options. The 2023 Porsche Cayenne is no different and it embodies the typical Porsche-DNA. For the 2023 model year, Porsche has not made any considerable changes to the Cayenne lineup. The Porsche Cayenne's 0-60 sprint time of sub 6.0 seconds is enough to throw some light on its performance.

The Porsche Cayenne 2023 price starts at an MSRP of $72,200, making it more expensive than some of  its competition. However, the sleek aesthetics, interior design, comfort and handling justify a higher price tag. It competes with the German Big 3, including the Audi Q8, BMW X5, and the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450. Check out the video by YoungerCars to learn more about the 2023 Porsche Cayenne.

Key observations in the video:

  • Multiple drive models
  • Instantaneous response from paddle shifters
  • Integrated 4D chassis control
  • Slide and recline rear seats
  • Grunty exhaust note

Buying Advice

The 2023 Porsche Cayenne comes with an extensive list of standard features for the SUV. The Cayenne is available in a single trim configuration. So, it's a no-brainer to opt for the same. However, if you are into more power than the Cayenne S,E-Hybrid and GTS would make more sense. However, we would recommend the 2024 Porsche Cayenne, which comes with a new exterior design, improved power output, and an optimized chassis with two-valve suspension.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2023 Porsche Cayenne is the ultimate balance of sportiness and practicality. In the J.D. Power Consumer Rating, the 2023 Cayenne scored an average score of 80/100. Also, as per NHTSA records, the Cayenne 2023 has not undergone any recalls or received any complaints.

Certainly, this Porsche SUV can be considered quite reliable. In terms of finance and leasing options, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne starts at $72,200. The Cayenne can be financed at a low APR of 7.49% for a period of 72 months on approved credit. The same car can be leased for a term of 39 months with a monthly payment of $1000. The mileage limit is 10,000 miles per year, and a down payment of $8,000 will be due at signing.

In the usual Porsche sense, the Cayenne also gets access to tons of customization options via Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. However, the available options and packages are not affordable and can add several thousands of dollars to the final price, depending on your choice of features.

The Porsche Cayenne returns the lowest mpg in the competition. But the buyers of Porsche can take a small hit on the efficiency as it compensates well with a bigger fuel tank and its excellent performance. The Audi Q8 returns a slightly better fuel economy compared to the Cayenne. Bimmer comes with the best fuel efficiency in the competition. But it is the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 that offers the best range in the class with its combination of good fuel economy and a bigger fuel tank.

Interior
8.5/10

The 2023 Porsche Cayenne interior will not disappoint anyone. The driver seats are comfortable and come with multiple adjustment options to find the perfect driving position. The front seats can be equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The rear seats are also comfortable, with a good amount of legroom and headroom for the passengers. Inside, the Porsche Cayenne can be had in black, truffle brown, and slate gray, while two-tone color combinations include black and Mojave Beige, truffle brown, and cohiba brown, to name a few.

Just like the interior color combos, the interior trim can be made of carbon fiber, aluminum, or even natural wood. The quality of the interior is impressive, thanks to the use of high-quality materials inside the cabin. The controls for the driver fall within easy reach of the driver. The 202 Cayenne cargo capacity of 27.3 cu-ft is also decent for its class, and you can fold down the rear seats to open more space of up to 60.3 cu-ft. The power-operated liftgate can be paired with the optional comfort access for accessing the cargo area with a foot gesture.

The exact interior dimensions of the Porsche Cayenne are not known, but there is enough space inside the cabin. The only area where the Porsche Cayenne lacks is the cargo area, which is the least in the competition. The Audi Q8 is also closer to the Cayenne in terms of cabin space and cargo area. The Merc gets good space in the cabin and the best cargo area in the class. But when you fold down the rear seats of all these SUVs, the BMW X5 offers the best cargo area in its class.

The 2023 Porsche Cayenne offers a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display on the dashboard of the SUV. The user interface of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is intuitive and responsive. You can control most of the features inside the cabin from the screen itself. The Porsche Connect Plus includes wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and WiFi hotspot connectivity as well. You can upgrade to a 14-speaker Bose audio system and a 21-speaker Burmester audio system. You can also get optional screens in the rear seats for the entertainment of rear-seat passengers.

Some standout interior features of the 2023 Porsche Cayenne:

  • 8-way power-adjustable front seats
  • 40-20-40 split folding rear seats
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Optional rear seat screens
  • SiriusXM radio

Exterior
8.5/10

The 2023 Porsche Cayenne comes with an aggressive and sporty look. It looks more like a coupe than an SUV. The large air intake on the front not only improves the dynamics of the Cayenne but also brings dynamism to the overall design. The rear of the Porsche Cayenne gets a sculpted tailgate, a spoiler integrated into the roofline, and sleek connected LED tail lights. You will love the reaction of the people when you take it out on the road, as people are going to turn their heads to give proper respect to the design. Those who expect a more intimidating look for an SUV will not be happy with the Cayenne, for sure.

Competition

2023 Porsche Cayenne vs. 2023 BMW X5

The 2023 BMW X5 is a strong contender against the Porsche Cayenne. It gets more space in the cargo area and scores slightly better than the Porsche Cayenne in terms of practicality. It also goes neck to neck with the Porsche Cayenne in terms of luxury inside the cabin. The Bimmer also comes loaded with modern technology features. The performance and handling of the X5 will not disappoint the buyers. But when you keep it against the Porsche Cayenne, it can not keep up with the sedan-like driving dynamics of the Porsche Cayenne.

2023 Porsche Cayenne vs. 2023 Audi Q8

The 2023 Audi Q8 is closely related to the Porsche Cayenne in many ways. The Audi Q8 also comes with a ton of standard features online and the space inside the cabin is also quite good for the class. The Audi Q8 is tuned more toward offering a comfortable driving experience. While the 2023 Porsche Cayenne is a sportier choice. Even when you look at the exterior of the car, the Porsche Cayenne is the one with a sportier stance. The engines are potent enough in both these SUVs. But the Audi Q8 can not beat the sporty handling and driving dynamics of the Porsche Cayenne.

2023 Porsche Cayenne vs. 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 is obviously a more practical choice of the two for those who want a better space inside the cabin. It also comes with great comfort for the passengers in the front and rear. The relaxed and comfortable driving experience is great for people who are not fond of pushing their car hard. It also comes loaded with all the modern technology inside the cabin. However, those who want the fun of driving will prefer the 2023 Porsche Cayenne for sure. It comes with better driving dynamics and performs better than the competition.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

The 2023 Porsche Cayenne is a perfect blend of a Porsche-DNA and an SUV. The SUV's body style gives it more flexibility and practicality, while being a Porsche it still remains fun to drive in any situation. The 2023 Porsche Cayenne performs well in all areas. It has enough space to keep passengers in both rows comfortable. The cargo area is also quite decent. However, the biggest reason to buy the 2023 Porsche Cayenne is the performance and driving dynamics of the car. However, the redesigned 2024 Porsche Cayenne offers better core features like a more powerful engine and distinctive aesthetics.
