Overview

Expensive cars are an immersive experience to deal with extra money problems. The understanding enriches scrumptiously when going with your partner in a car with an open roof. Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible makes it more romantic but, costs a much lower price than what one expects. Its joyful and nimble handling fastens the momentum with a light body material ornamented. Concentrating over 400 horsepower from the H6 engine, this belongs to the same personality as the Porsche Cayman Coupe. A two-seater car it composes enough comfy seats that handle the gentle performance on the highways. Leaping ahead of the instantaneous 911 sports car in affordability, this entitles a budget-friendly Porsche to buy in 2023. It looks less refined than the competitors, and this less refinement can also be targeted in the entry-level four-cylinder engine.

For the 2023 generation, Porsche has not noted any intention to bring any changes to the 718 Boxster Convertible. It will be a carry-over model of last year that begot a few exterior shades along with more choices for the leather to suit inside the cabin. It competes against the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the BMW 4-Series Convertible, and the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible.

Buying Advice

We believe that going for the optional feis is ures truly worth the price. It handles LED headlights for better visibility and ventilated seats to counter the heating waves of America. Bose or Burmester sound systems might not as useful when one enjoys the fun of an open roof in a moving vehicle. Except for minor driver-assistive aids given the standard by the Porsche, adaptive cruise control, blindspot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking, are some of the prominent features we believe to be present in every car costing over $60k.

Engine and Performance
9.9/10

A turbocharged flat four-cylinder engine is the only powerhouse that strengthens the open-roof Porsche. It gives rise to 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission, reactive to most of the Porsche, it is also an RWD model with no scope to opt for the AWD architecture. With all this armor, the convertible holds the strength to rush a 0-60 mph mark in between 6 seconds. Possibly it can accomplish a quarter-mile run in around 14 seconds. Driving expressions are just like the Porsche cars, but the engine feels a little motivation and refinement. It screams at high speeds. Steering is responsive and sends feedback from time to time. A compact luxury car ensures gentle comfort and the size supports the car making its way even into narrow lanes. City driving is good until one faces speed bumps because where these cars suffer. On the highways, it is not as fast as other vehicles, but the acceleration is not complaining either. Transmissions are good. 3.31 first gear ratio falls up to 1.1 till the fourth and 0-81 is the melting point of six-speed manual transmissions. The car takes 3 seconds to get back in reverse form.

This convertible car market is a bit confusing. One needs a strong understanding to choose the right car according to the budget. Chevrolet Camaro is the most affordable convertible car that begets a stunning competitive performance to the Porsche 718 Boxster. BMW 4-series convertible shows more price than Camaro but brings lesser power and top speed. Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible 0-60 number is fulfilling, but the 718 Boxster Convertible price does not suit the offerings. The Corvette Stingray is the most expensive convertible on our list that begets the highest engine performance. It is the fastest convertible to buy under $75k in 2023. The New 718 Boxster convertible hp is satisfying.

2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible Ride and Handling

The ride quality is smooth and composed. A little plastic interior feels a bit depressing, but comfortable seats easily catch you when the turbocharged engine softly punches back. Its small size helps it steer around the city streets with almost no problems. No argument, it barely feels sending a bit of body roll. When turning across the corners, it delegates an appraising performance. It carves a turning diameter of 36.1 ft. suspensions are properly working. Strut suspension on all four wheels is fitted to support the weight of the vehicle. While it also absorbs surface impact and ensures a smooth ride. Porsche sends five drive modes on the 718 Boxster Convertible. The Normal mode is built to propagate solaceful driving manners. On switching to Sport mode, it fetches a spirited driving experience. The Sport+ mode exaggerates the Spot mode by offering more sharp steering response, throttle output, and transmission shifts. Individual mode brings controls and personalization to the driver's hand.  If you want the 'Normal' soft suspension without losing the sharp shifts and throttle response you get with 'SPORT+,' or you want all of the comfortable 'Normal' settings but with the 'SPORT' exhaust noise, the 'Individual' setting is for you. The Wet mode adjusts the vehicle's settings to help you drive better in the rain and adverse conditions. Standard 18-inch wheels move with tires of dimensions P235/45ZR18.

2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible Braking System

In the name of the braking system, Porsche does not offer anything for free. Though brakes work with a generous understanding of stopping wheels with ease. The anti-lock braking system on all four wheels helps them from locking under panic or harsh braking conditions. Post-collision safety system saves the passengers from additional damages that are anticipated to occur after a crash. An optional automatic emergency braking system helps the car to stop immediately when it detects the brakes are used to gain a sudden stop.

Being the most affordable convertible to buy in 2023, the Chevrolet Camaro is a bit heavy than both Porsche and Corvette Stingray. The 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible's curb weight makes it the least-weighted convertible. Being a four-seater convertible, the BMW 4-Series is the heaviest convertible in the comparison. Porsche’s braking distance is the least among its rivals. The front wheels of the Camaro are equipped with extensive brake calipers helping it stop relatively in the competition. The rear wheels of the BMW 4-Series are evolved in the same making it stop faster than Camaro despite additional weight. The brake caliper size of the most costly convertible is shorter than that of the least-priced convertible. Taking a look over its curb weight, a literate saying consults that it stops very competitively in the segment.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

This Porsche is going to save a bit of your cash by spending extra on refueling. This 718 Boxster ears more mileage numbers than its brothers wearing a bigger engine and having better performance numbers. This earns a combined mpg of 22, ensuring 20 mpg in the city and 26 on the highways. When it fully occupies its fuel tank of 14.2 gallons, this might Porcshe render a combined range of 312.4 miles. City and highway miles of range are 284 and 369.2 respectively.

BMW 4-Series is the most efficient convertible vehicle. Thanks to its least-powered engine, it maintains the biggest mpg. As containing the largest engine and large power figures, the Corvette Stingray fetches the lowest fuel economy. Looking in the city and combined basis, the Porsche 718 Boxster mpg is ahead by two marks of than Chevrolet Camaro, while on the highways, it lacks by the same gap. Due to the lowest fuel-carrying capacity, the Porsche 718 Boxster's miles of range is the dullest.

Interior
9.9/10

This cute-looking car boasts a nicely qualified interior. Even adorned with partial leather upholstery, this looks stunning and surpasses several alternatives, anyone would make mind buying for a luxury-looking cabin. A strong presentable inside does not have much to count, but everything looks very well placed. Clicked touching the ground, the car is a bit uncomfortable due to the low seating position. The doors open shortly and maintain the proportion of cars. Like the competition, it does not carry a butterfly wings door opening mechanism. The two doors are adorned with gentle quality material and hold few controls for seat adjustments. Seats are two-way power-adjustable. They are comfortable and we recommend not going further or long distances depending solely on the comfort of the seats. Porsche sends a heating function by default with a power-adjustable backrest. Offered in 12 interior shades, we like to see it painted in black.

The spoon-shaped dashboard exhibits four big AC vents. Covered in a hard-touch material, it is solid and premium to the touch. Below the center placed two AC vents, consolidating a 7-inch touchscreen that proves Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Manual tilt and telescopic steering column fetch several controls for volume up and down and other media controls. The Center console provides a good streamlined layout and offers various controls. A short armrest, manual gear shifter, climate control, and instrumentation switches cover the console.

Front row seats of the Chevrolet Camaro are roomier than the BMW 4-series. Both vehicles are four-seater convertibles. The most minimized convertible, Porsche 718 Boxster has enough room to make people feel unfatigued. Trunk space on Porsche 718 Boxster is the lowest in the segment. BMW despite sending four seats fetch more trunk area than both Chevy and Porsche. The most expensive convertible offers the largest trunk space.

Highlights of the interior aesthetics–

  • 2-way heated front seats
  • Manual tilt and telescopic steering column
  • Front cupholder
  • Keyless entry and ignition
  • Homelink garage door transmitter
  • Illuminated locking glove box
  • Driver footrest
  • Full cloth headliner
  • Daynight auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Full carpet floor cover

How intuitive is the 2023 Porcshe 718 Boxster Infotainment system?

A standard 7-inch touchscreen system works for the entertainment of two people. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For the people who still listen to CDs, Porsche also felicitated this CD player. Two USB ports for two people: easy. The screen is a bit old looking but offers a nice touch response and a typical Porsche infotainment interface. Other controls are within reach. The excessive collection of buttons on the center console sometimes creates delusion when steering the vehicle. The Standard 6-speaker audio system does not sound up to expectations. Meanwhile more advanced Bose or Burmester sound system is available. Shoppers can also opt for a navigation system and WiFi hotspot compatibility.

Highlights of the infotainment system–

  • Porsche communication management
  • SiriusXM satellite radio with a three-month subscription
  • 7-inch touchscreen display
  • Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • 110w 6 speaker audio system
  • Speed-compensated volume control
  • Radio data system
  • 2 USB ports
  • Handsfree Bluetooth connectivity
  • Streaming audio

Exterior
9.9/10

The exterior simply looks like bringing a Porsche 911 without a roof. It is ironic. It is fulfilling and it is eye-gazing. The proper-looking sportscar feel comes from when looking it scores attention on highways. It's a simple and elegant design, not just fashionable but also provides an aerodynamically affluent car. The front curvy hood, showing its gratitude towards the ground, begets a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Two gigantic-looking headlights are not offered even with LED functions. Porsche charges extra for them. The front spoiler contains air intakes and parking sensors to define the air inside and help the car steer in tight parking lanes respectively. The Porsche badge mashed beautifully with a plain curvy hood. The side profile is limited with a black trimmed outside rearview mirror with power foldings, and two small-sized doors. Light-tented glass holds its emotion with a semi-naked interior cover. The convertible roof can be opened or closed under 10 seconds, which is an effective time for a convertible. Additional air intakes beside the rear wheels pass through to condition brakes. Among the 18 exterior color choices, we prefer flexing on Carmine red. Standard 18-inch wheels suited with summer performance tires of fraction P235/45ZR18. Superior models get 19 and even 20-inch wheels. The rear profile is what it should look like. It badges Porsche written on tail lights connecting lines. Boxster has written underneath. Two visible exhaust tips finish off the explanation.

Chevrolet Camaro is the largest convertible with the least money. BMW 4-Series is the heaviest convertible that contains four seats. It also preserves the longest wheelbase. The Porsche 718 brings the shortest wheelbase. Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible ground clearance is lesser than Stingray, helping it stay more connected to the ground during a furious acceleration. In all the dimensions, the Porsche is behind every other convertible vehicle.

Extracts of the exterior–

  • 18-inch wheels with summer performance tires
  • Clearcoat paint
  • Tire mobility kit
  • Body-colored front and rear bumper
  • Black window trims
  • Light tinted glass

  • Auto on-off projector beam low and high-beam headlights

Safety
8.0/10

If you are buying the 718 Boxster just for the dream of procuring a large number of driver-aids and safety features, then you are wrong. The car has not much to offer in the name of safety features and driver assistance by default. Electronic stability control uses automated computer-controlled braking of individual wheels to assist the driver with maintaining control of the car in crucial conditions. Standard front and rear parking sensors support the Porsche to get parked in tight parking spaces. The optional adaptive cruise control maintains a prominent distance between the Porsche and the vehicle moving in front of it.

Salient features of safety system–

  • Standard front and rear parking sensors
  • Available adaptive cruise control
  • Available blindspot monitoring
  • Post-collision safety system
  • Dual front side-mounted airbags
  • Front head airbags
  • Airbag occupancy sensor
  • Stability control
  • ABS and driveline traction control
  • Tire pressure monitoring
  • Dusk sensing headlamps
  • Remote anti-theft alarm system
  • Engine immobilizer

Competition
7.0/10

2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible vs. 2023 Chevy Corvette Stingray

Chevy is a much more appealing choice. With a few extra thousand dollars, one can get a V8 engine, thriller acceleration, and tons of features, with a nice striking look. 718 Boxster gains more mileage, thanks to its low-powered four-cylinder engine. It is slow. Corvette begets more stylish as well as hi-tech looking interior that often seen absent of the cars of these types.

2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible vs. 2023 BMW 4-Series Convertible

BMW is one of the most luxurious convertible budget-friendly cars that offer to seat four. It sends more power and runs on an eight-speed automatic transmission. The lightweight body of Porsche boosts itself to run competitively fast. BMW offers a more sophisticated interior and dashboard layout. The Interior of Porsche is poor looking

2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Convertible vs. 2023 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

Camaro is the most stylish convertible under budget. It has more cargo space and segment-leading top speed. Porsche stays strong with its five-year cover or up to 50,000 miles of limited warranty. Meanwhile, the Camaro brings it only 36,000 miles or up to three years of coverage. Porsche looks more like a sports car, while the Camaro passes through muscle tension.

Final Verdict
8.7/10

No, not really. There are several choices available on the market. It is a good option if the motto is to only buy a Porsche. This brings a lightweight body, comfortable ride, joyful handling, respectable fuel economy, and the brand recognition of Porsche. Some downs include an unhealthy engine, less standard features, and pricey senior trims. Want a convertible to overtake the biggest legends of supercar industries, spending extra bucks on a Corvette stingray won't hurt you. The BMW 4-Series costs even less and proposes four seats and trunk space. The Camaro is the most affordable which is a lot better than Porsche.
