Compared to rivals, the Titan is very limited in terms of trims and configurations available. Starting with the base S model, standard features include cloth upholstery, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, satellite radio, and a suite of driver assistance features including automatic high-beam headlamps, driver drowsiness monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and more. Hence, it is a pretty well-equipped car even in the base trim and promises good value.

Which trim should you buy?

Since the mid-range trims offer a limited amount of feature upgrades, the base S model is the pick of the lot with standard features like a capable 8-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto integration, satellite radio, and more. It also gets plenty of driver assistance features as standard. If you're planning to use it as a work truck, the S utility pack is recommended which adds an overhead console, spray-on bed liner, trailer.

2022 Nissan Titan Crew Cab Release date

In terms of the release date, there has not been much information from the brand. We are expecting that the 2022 model of the Nissan Titan will reach showrooms by the fall of this year. Deliveries are also expected to start by then. However, the manufacturer has not yet unveiled all of its cars nor provided press cars. So, in the absence of a clear confirmation as to when deliveries are about to start, one can only hope for cars by the end of this year.

After discontinuing the efficient diesel engine with the recent refresh, the 2022 Nissan Titan Crew Cab is only available with one engine option, a 5.6 L Naturally Aspirated V-8 engine producing 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. The engine offers plenty of performance when paired with the smooth 9-speed automatic transmission. Because of its V8 configuration, there’s plenty of grunts lower down in the rev range, and the Titan picks up speed effortlessly. Towing capacity is impressive at 9,310 pounds with the right options, while the bed capacity is limited to 1,650 pounds.

The sprint to 60 MPH is done in just 7.3 seconds and crosses the quarter-mile in 15.6 seconds. The transmission is very quick with shifts, and reliably chooses the right gear most of the time. Like most pick-up trucks, the suspension is set up for hauling cargo and going off-road, resulting in a stiff and uncomfortable ride on the tarmac. Nissan still hasn’t figured out the ride and handling balance of its competitors, making it feel inferior in comparison. The steering also feels too light and unrefined, limiting the overall handling capabilities. Four-wheel-drive is available as an option on all models.

Right from the base trim level, the Nissan Titan overpowers all of its rivals with a powerful V-8 engine compared to the V-6 setup of its rivals. But, the GMC Sierra 1500 manages to match it, and the others are not far behind. Surprisingly, the Nissan Titan offers better than average braking performance compared to the class average, despite the smaller braking hardware. The curb weight is also considerably higher than its rivals. 

Because of its standard V-8 powertrain, efficiency figures are limited to just 16 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway, but the large fuel tank is a saving grace, resulting in a highway range of above 500 miles. Unfortunately, there are no efficient powertrains on offer like the turbodiesel that was available with the previous generation. We would still say that it can survive in its competition.

While the V-8 engine gives the Titan an advantage in terms of performance, its fuel efficiency is significantly lower than its rivals. The RAM 1500 returns the most efficiency followed by the Ford F-150. Nissan's biggest saving grace is that the GMC returns slightly lower numbers in terms of fuel efficiency. The Ford and the RAM score very respectable numbers due to their smaller engines.

Like most pickup trucks in its segment, the base models get a 6 seater setup with bench seats in both rows. Cabin quality and design are surprisingly good for its class, but you will find some hard and low-quality plastics. The elegant dashboard is well contoured with a well-designed center console that integrates the touchscreen infotainment well. Nissan continues to use a column-mounted shifter instead of a shift by wire system, giving it an old-school look.

Nissan has also provided plenty of storage spaces around the cabin. The 2022 Nissan Titan Crew Cab also offers some clever amenities like a spring-assisted tailgate, in-bed cargo boxes for safe storage, and more. Higher trim levels get bucket seats at the front with Nissan’s unique zero-gravity design, offering excellent support and comfort. Coming to the rear seats, leg-room is at a premium compared to rivals, limiting overall comfort levels for taller passengers.

Cabin space is similar across the board, and all four pickup trucks get average quality cabins that are the norm for this price range. But, the Titan is slightly limited in terms of rear legroom compared to the RAM 1500 and Ford F-150. These trucks also have better quality materials used in the cabin as well, when you compare it with what you find in the Nissan Titan. Some notable interior features include:

Nissan hasn’t skimped out on any essential features, and all models of the Titan get a modern NissanConnect infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen display, which is upgraded to a bigger 9-inch display on the higher trim levels. The interface is slick and easy to use with physical shortcuts and knobs for easier access without distracting the driver. All the modern features are provided, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, satellite and HD radio, Bluetooth, a 6-speaker audio stereo, and more. SL and higher trims also get a premium sound system from Fender along with features like built-in navigation, wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot, and more. Some notable infotainment features include:

With the recent design refresh, the Nissan Titan received a more modern and boxy fascia that shares a lot of design cues with its stablemates. But, it pales in comparison to modern pick-up trucks, especially in the base model with a bland grille design and standard headlights. The Pro-4X model tries to look more aggressive and rugged with black elements, skid plates, and red tow hooks. Higher trims get chrome elements, alloy wheels, and LED lighting to boost the appeal, but it still looks bland compared to rivals

In terms of dimensions, the Nissan Titan is noticeably more compact than its rivals with a shorter wheelbase and overall length. You’re also limited to just one configuration whereas all rivals offer three or four. All other pickup trucks offer different bed options and a longer wheelbase as well. The Nissan is also on the heavier side, mainly due to the fact that it has a massive engine. Some notable exterior features include:

When pitted against the best-selling pick-up truck in the U.S, the Nissan Titan gets some advantages like a powerful V-8 engine, and a more extensive standard feature list. But, the Titan is more expensive right from the base model. Your choices are limited, and the Titan is only available with one engine and one-bed length throughout the range, limiting options to potential customers. The Ford F-150 on the other hand offers a lot more choice, better-towing capability, and a modern cabin with better amenities.

Despite the similar performance, the standard V-8 engine on the Titan is arguably a better option of the two. The standard towing capacity is also a lot better with the Titan at 9000 pounds, which is comparable to the 6.2L V-8 on the Sierra 1500. However, the GMC Sierra also offers several powertrain options including an efficient turbo-diesel engine, and larger bed options, giving you more choice. The base models are also priced lower than the Titan.

The RAM 1500 is usually touted as the most comfortable pick-up truck on the market thanks to its independent suspension setup. On the comfort front, the RAM 1500 is also available with an air suspension setup with plenty of towing features. Interior space is also better in the RAM 1500 with plenty of clever storage spaces and features. But, the Nissan Titan is not far behind and also offers good value with a standard V-8 engine. Overall, if you’re looking for a comfortable all-rounder pick-up truck, the RAM 1500 is a better choice.

The new Nissan Titan Crew Cab is best described as a pick-up truck that tries to do everything but comes up short in many key areas. In the highly competitive full-size SUV segment, the Titan goes up against some tough competitors, all of which offer some unique features or traits like the RAM 1500 with its comfortable ride, Ford F-150 with performance, and more. While the Titan is capable of a lot, there are better rivals out there. Despite it all, however, if you’re looking for a reliable pick-up truck with excellent warranty packages, or a standard work truck, the Titan is a good choice.
