Overview

The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is carry-forwarded with no major changes except for two new exterior colors and an Appearance package for the Standard trim. It is now available for sale at $51,465 for the Standard trim and climbs up to $79,350 for the top-most Black Label trim. It equips the same 400-hp 3.0L twin-turbo V6 that delivers seamless acceleration. The Aviator is also available as a hybrid model and is a perfect choice for fuel-conscious people. The 2022 Lincoln Aviator offers a stylish exterior, a luxurious cabin, and a pair of potent powertrains like the larger Navigator

The interior of the Aviator is trimmed with high-end materials and offers a roomy cabin. Although the third row is a bit tight, the cargo room is one of the strongest points of the Aviator. The cabin is also a host of the latest technological features. The 2022 Aviator is one of the safest SUVs in its class with top safety techs. In the popular midsize luxury segment, the Lincoln Aviator competes with its rivals including the Cadillac XT6, the Audi Q7, and the Volvo XC90

Buying Advice

The Lincoln Aviator is a well-equipped car right from the base trim but Lincoln has kept a few advanced and luxury features for its top trims. Thus we recommend going a step up from the base trim and choosing the Reserve trim. It adds a panoramic sunroof, ambient interior lighting, quad-zone automatic climate control, 20-inch wheels to name a few. We also advise you to buy the Co-Pilot360 1.5 Plus package for more essential driver-assist features.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Lincoln Aviator provides an upscale interior design, a comfortable ride quality and strong acceleration- Edmunds

Lincoln has a marvelous lineup of luxurious SUVs to choose from. Among these, the Aviator is a popular pick. It offers compactness that the full-size Navigator fails to, but manages to add an extra row of seating over the two-row Nautilus. It is offered with a potent powertrain, stunning exteriors, and opulent interiors for the whole family. It epitomizes luxury not only through its cabin but also its performance.

Since it's a Lincoln, the running costs will obviously be high. It is estimated to be close to $12,000, which is average for the segment. This cover's the vehicle's maintenance, depreciation, fuel, repair, etc. Lincoln is currently offering a special lease deal for the Aviator. You can lease it for as low as $641 per month for 48 months with $5,897 due at signing. You could also finance it at a 5.9% APR rate for 72 months.

The Standard model is already handsomely equipped- Carbuzz

The Lincoln Aviator is available in three trims, just like last year: Standard, Reserve, and Black Label. Pricing starts from $51,465 for the Standard trim while the range-topping Black Label trim can go up to $79,350. The Aviator is loaded with plenty of features even in the base model. The Black Label is considered as a flagship model and hence, certain attractive and opulent interior themes are available.

Some optional packages are also available for the Standard and Reserve trim. The Elements package includes a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats for the Standard trim and can be bought for $1,000. The $2,400 Dynamic Handling package adds an adaptive suspension with a feature called Road Preview that uses a camera mounted on the windscreen to see what lies ahead and prepared the suspension accordingly.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

When it comes to gas mileage, the Aviator isn't great, nor is it terrible- Carbuzz

The fuel economy is always at stake when we concentrate on luxury and massive SUVs with brawny engines underneath the hood. The Lincoln Aviator is no different in this case. The 3.0L twin-turbo V6 base setup is one punchy motor and also gulps decent gallons of fuel to cruise around roads. The Aviator offers 18 MPG in the city, 26 MPG on the highway, and 21 MPG combined.

Opting for the AWD system sees a drop in fuel economy by 1 MPG. These numbers aren't bad for an SUV of such opulence and potential. When the 20.2-gallon fuel tank is filled up to the brim, the Aviator covers 424 miles in mixed proportions, which is decent for a midsize luxury SUV. There’s also a plug-in hybrid variant that can be availed for a few additional silent miles.

From the above table, it is evident that the Volvo XC90's fuel efficiency is the best in this competition. The Cadillac XT6 delivers more range than the Audi Q7 courtesy of its large fuel tank and good efficiency. Considering the amount of power the Aviator develops, its fuel economy is really good.

Interior
9.0/10

The Aviator is big on the inside, which results in plenty of cargo capacity- Edmunds

The Lincoln Aviator comes in a 6 and 7-seater variant, but what remains constant is the use of striking materials and premium comfort. The 6-seater captain’s chairs variant offers a center console in the middle. The optional interior themes are top-notch and are well furnished with fancy metallic accents and wood trims to compel luxury. The front seats are extremely comfortable and that is because they offer up to 30-way power adjustability.

Everything from the cushion to the backrest to the lumbar to the headrest is adjustable electronically. The Aviator will exceed the expectations for the segment with the best cabin space in the first two rows. The second-row seats do slide fore and aft for adjusting the legroom of third-row occupants. These seats also get standard heated functionality only on the Balck Label trim. The third row is strictly for children, that too for shorter distances.

The Aviator's SYNC 3 infotainment system includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interface is intuitive and it is simple to use thanks to its simple menu structure. The traditional climate and audio controls make the Aviator's features easy to use. A dual-screen entertainment system is available for rear-seat passengers. The top two trims get 14 and 28-speaker Revel premium audio systems with prodigious sound quality.

Coming to practicality, the Aviator offers18.3 cu-ft. behind the third row. The second-row seats are split with a 40/20/40 split so that you can perfectly accommodate a mix of cargo and occupants. This expands the cargo space to 41.8 cu-ft. Even the second-row seats fold flat to expose 77.7 cu-ft. of cargo storage, which is one of the best in the segment. Some cool interior highlights are mentioned below:

  • Power tilt & telescopic multi-functional leather, heated steering wheel
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Illuminated scuff plate
  • 30-way power front heated and ventilated seats
  • Heated second-row captain chairs

Exterior

Each beholder will see the beauty or otherwise in the 2022 Aviator- Kelly Blue Book

The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is expected to have no changes in the exterior aspects. The Aviator is one of Lincoln's nicest-looking models. It is elegant and classy but sporty and aggressive at the same time. The chrome grille decorating the front fascia is no less of a jewel on the Aviator. The LED headlight looks stylish but the optional adaptive pixel LED headlights are really worth an upgrade. The 2022 Aviator will add new color options that will include Gilded Green and Bronze Smoke.

The Aviator comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels but 20,21 and 22-inch are available. Dimensionally, the Aviator is one large vehicle stretching at 199.3 inches. This gives it pretty good interior space. The long-wheelbase provides the Aviator with exceptional refinement in the driving, while apt ground clearance offers outstanding handling. At the back, the taillight bar in the middle that goes across and connects two taillight modules looks very clean. Down below, you get quad exhaust tips.

The Audi Q7 is the bulkiest SUV in this competition and yet, its acceleration is mind-blowing. The Cadillac XT6 sits low to the ground at 6.7 inches. Cadillac did so for easy entry and exit from the vehicle. At 195 inches, the Volvo XC90 is the shortest vehicle here. However, it does not affect its interior or cargo space. Its short length comes in handy will parking at tight spots. Some other exterior features are:

  • LED auto high-beam headlights
  • LED DRLs
  • LED fog lamps
  • LED taillights
  • Power-folding, heated exterior mirrors
  • Aluminum roof rails
  • Chrome grille with active grille shutters
  • Chrome window trim

Safety
9.0/10

The Aviator gets love from the NHTSA, but it gets a rock from the IIHS- The Car Connection

The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is yet to be tested by the safety organizations, but the outgoing model has some great ratings to back. It has been rated with a superior 5 stars in the NHTSA crash test ratings. Something similar was seen in the IIHS crash tests where the Aviator was rated with first-class ratings and the Top Safety Pick title too.

In addition to the ratings that will surely be carried over to the 2022 Aviator, there are a plethora of standard active safety features to avouch for unrivaled safety. These features are bundles under Ford's Co-Pilot360. The Co-Pilot360 1.5 PLus package is also exclusively available for the Reserve trim that adds more driver aids. These include:

  • Pre-Collision Assist
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Reverse Brake Assist
  • Lane-Keeping System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Evasive Steering Assist
  • Traffic Jam Assist
  • Lane Centering Assist
  • Speed Sign Recognition
  • Active Park Assist Plus
  • Pedestrian Detection
  • Head-Up Display
  • 360-Degree Camera
  • Rearview Camera
  • MyKey
  • Front & Rear Parking Sensors

Competition
9.0/10

2022 Lincoln Aviator vs 2022 Audi Q7

The Aviator leads the Audi Q7 with a decent power gap and better cargo space but the latter's athleticism and higher towing capacity give it an edge. In a comparison of the interiors, both the rivals are plush, but Audi’s dual-screen infotainment and virtual cockpit are far better than the infotainment in the Aviator. If one wants some aggression in both aesthetics and on-road manners, then the Q7 should satisfy those needs very well.

2022 Lincoln Aviator vs 2022 Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 and the Aviator are closely matched in delivering seamless power delivery and hugging the roads around the corner. Yet the power figures of the Aviator lead to that of the XC90. Inside, both are opulent and plush with high-quality materials and have great technology bits to make life more convenient. However, the XC90 offers one of the largest cargo rooms in the segment and is also more fuel-efficient.

2022 Lincoln Aviator vs 2022 Cadillac XT6

Both are typical American luxury SUVs, yet again, the punchy powertrain of the Aviator will attract more crowds. The Cadillac XT6 is also well-versed in offering luxury in their interiors. However, the Aviator wind more points with a larger infotainment screen and more trunk volume. Both SUVs earn top safety ratings and pack the latest driver-assist features but the Aviator's fuel efficiency is better than the XT6.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is a tremendous force, stands out from the crowd by offering the most powerful and reliable standard engine in the midsize luxury SUV segment. It offers subtle driving, luxurious interiors with impressive infotainment features. It also stands strong in terms of safety and is backed by first-class crash test ratings and a long list of features.
