Overview

The 2022 Jaguar F-Type receives many important updates this year. It is now available with just a V8 motor, with a new P450 model included in the lineup for the very first time. The R-Dynamic model is now offered as a trim of the base P450. The 2022 F-Type Coupe is currently on sale and has a starting price of $69,900. It is powered by a 5.0L supercharged V8 engine, the same as the F-Type R but detuned to 444 hp and 428 lb-ft. of torque.

<p>The 2022 F-Type is capable of propelling from 0-60 MPH in just 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 177 MPH. Its interior styling may be outdated for some people but it is appealing and spacious. It also offers a decent trunk volume and a host of the latest driver-assist systems.&nbsp;Talking of the rivals, the 2022 Jaguar F-Type goes up against the likes of the <a href="https://www.carhp.com/chevrolet/corvette-stingray-coupe-2022" target="_blank">Chevrolet Corvette Stingray</a>, the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.carhp.com/lexus/rc-f-coupe-2022" target="_blank">Lexus RC F</a>, and the <a href="https://www.carhp.com/audi/rs-5-coupe-2018" target="_blank">Audi RS 5 Coupe</a>.</p>

    Buying Advice

Unless you want a swanky-looking exterior with a ton load of features on the inside, we feel that the base P450 Jag offers a lot for its price. The $10,000 premium that the R-Dynamic model demands, is justified for consumers looking for a bit more exclusivity but for the most part, the F-Type P450 base fits the bill perfectly well. We also advise adding a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert for $550.

    Comparative Analysis against Competition

The turbo-four and supercharged V6 are out as Jag focuses on V8 power exclusively for its flagship sports car- Cnet

Jaguar has given the F-Type the much-needed oomph that it was missing for so many years for its latest 2022 model year iteration. Now that the coupe is only powered by a V8, the F-Type genuinely feels value for money. Very few comfort features have been set back to match the price tag. It still remains a stylish, luxurious sports car that offers searing acceleration.

The F-Type is surely a high maintenance car but that's common with the cars in its segment. The exact annual ownership cost of the F-Type is unknown at the moment but we speculate it can be anywhere near $15,000. When it comes to reliability, the F-Type has not been rated yet by J.D. Power but Jaguar has earned enough reputation over the years to be a reliable brand.

    Features

A big touchscreen and bigger warranty help the F-Type stay relevant among higher-powered competitors- The Car Connection

Jaguar has removed the P300 and P380 models from the lineup, meaning that customers going for the 2022 F-Type will have the option of choosing between the P450 and P450 R-Dynamic. The 2022 F-Type's price ranges between $69,900 and $79,900, excluding a destination fee of $1,150. The F-Type R is also available for an astounding $103,200.

Owing to its high base price, the base P450 is packed with a lot of standard features. The P450 R-Dynamic trim adds black exterior trim, 12-way power front seats, auto-dimming, power-folding exterior mirrors, and metal treadplates with R-Dynamic branding. The optional features and accessories have also been limited this year.

    Fuel Economy
    7.2/10

The modestly tuned V8 is not that much worse than last year's V6- Carbuzz

With the V8 motor coming in as standard across the lineup for the 2022 Jaguar F-Type, don't expect outstanding MPG figures from this supercharged Jag. It manages to return 17 MPG in the city, 24 MPG on a highway, and 19 MPG combined. With the AWD system equipped, the fuel economy drops down by 1 MPG.

These fuel ratings are on par with other V8 rivals. Jag equips the F-Type with a massive 18.5-gallon fuel tank to have a good enough range that should help it go the distance and it was right. The F-Type delivers up to 380 miles in its most efficient form while the AWD variant can drive up to 333 miles, which is decent for a sports car.

In terms of rival comparison, the turbocharged unit of the Audi RS5 gives it a clear advantage over its rival on the MPG front. It is the most fuel-efficient car in this competition but delivers the least range, courtesy of its small fuel tank. The Lexus RC F's fuel efficiency is slightly lower than the F-Type but it locks its horn with the Chevy Corvette Stingray.

    Interior
    7.2/10

Last year, Jaguar updated the F-Type's styling to give it a more futuristic design — a theme that continued into the cabin- Edmunds

This is where the Jaguar F-Type earns its hefty price tag. The interior screams attention to the tiniest of the details. There isn’t any genuine leather used, but even the faux leather used is of nice quality and feels soft. The steering wheel doesn’t have any design tricks like on many performance cars we are used to seeing but the leather wrapping on it does make it more comfortable to hold.

The seats are extremely comfortable and it's quite easy to find a comfortable driving position. The side bolsters hug you nicely to keep you from juggling around. The front seats are now 6-way power-adjustable in order to make up to its base price while the previously standard 12-way power front seats are available for $1,000 extra. The cabin is spacious and can accommodate two adults comfortably.

Every F-Type comes standard with a 10-inch touchscreen that features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This system is complemented with sleek graphics but confusing menus and a slightly laggy interface. The standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is highly configurable. The quality of the switches on the F-Type is immaculate. These aren’t your usual press switches, these are more of a flip-style switch.

Talking about cargo space, you get 14.4 cu-ft., which is not that great but still better than many sports cars. It's enough space to carry baggage to a small trip. The storage spaces inside this cabin are going to be scarce as it is a coupe. Still, you have your glove box, cup holders, and some storage under the armrest with USB ports and a MicroSD card slot. Some other interior features are:

    • 12-way power front seats
    • Multi-function leather steering wheel with paddle shifters
    • Automatic climate control
    • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
    • 10-inch touchscreen with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

The 2022 F-Type carries the same visual appeal comprising sleek body lines together with some prominent haunches- Forbes

The Jaguar F-Type is hands down one of the best-looking sports coupes in the market. We genuinely hope that Jaguar doesn't change this design for at least a decade, it is so timeless. The headlights are especially the hottest piece of discussion on this car. The sharp blade-shaped DRLs coupled with four square LEDs give Jaguar a run for their money. The hood has two functional air intakes. Its low ground clearance aids for better acceleration.

The car gets wider at wheels and narrows down just a little bit in the midsection, a design masterpiece indeed. The coupe sits on 20-inch wheels as standard. The R-Dynamic variant adds black exterior trim along with metal tread plates with R-Dynamic embossed on them. The taillight section has kept the overall signature F-Type design but has made it sharper. Two sets of twin pot exhaust tips round off the rear design.

For a sports coupe, the Chevy Corvette Stingray has a high ground clearance. The Audi RS 5's wide wheelbase speaks for its roomy cabin, at least for a coupe. The Lexus RX F is less wide than the F-Type, which can be considered as an advantage, especially while cruising on narrow roads. Some major exterior highlights of the F-Type are:

    • LED auto high-beam headlights
    • LED taillights
    • LED DRLs
    • Puddle lamps
    • Power-folding, auto-dimming heated exterior mirrors
    • 20-inch alloy wheels

    Safety
    8.0/10

Jaguar provides its sports car with an assortment of standard and optional driver-assistance technology- CarAndDriver

As the ritual goes, automakers don’t allow their pricey performance machines in the crash tests. It's the same case with the 2022 Jaguar F-Type and hence, NHTSA and IIHS ratings are not available. The F-Type is constructed with an aluminum unibody chassis for lighter weight but with the same strength as the steel counterparts.

The F-Type is a host to several standard driver-assist technologies which suggests that passenger safety sits at the top of their list. A few of them are available as options. Besides this, a suite of six airbags is also installed in this sports car for additional safety of the passengers. The list of safety features available are given below:

    • Driver attention assistance
    • Traffic sign recognition
    • Rearview camera
    • Front & rear parking sensors
    • Blind-spot monitor
    • Rear cross-traffic alert
    • Emergency brake assist
    • Forward collision warning
    • Hands-free parallel park assist
    • Lane keep assist

2022 Jaguar F-Type vs 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The Chevy Corvette Stingray is the cheapest sports car with a V8. It offers an agile acceleration while its driving dynamics are also great. It has an eye-catching interior but the Jag's cabin feels more luxurious for the price. The list of safety features and cargo space offered in the Corvette is also behind. If you are short on money and want an agile sports car, the Corvette is a great deal.

    2022 Jaguar F-Type vs 2022 Lexus RC F

The Lexus RC F is one of the more affordable sports coupes offered by the Japanese carmaker. It is way more powerful and it's Fuji Speedway Edition can easily beat the F-Type as well. Unlike the F-Type, it offers a long list of standard features but its trunk capacity and rear-seat space are the lowest in the class. When it comes to safety, the RC F, once again, has the upper hand with ample safety techs.

2022 Jaguar F Type vs 2022 Audi RS 5 Coupe

As with any other Audi, the RS 5 Coupe tends to be the most sensible and practical choice among all these cars. It offers seating for 5, has an excellent infotainment system, delivers great gas mileage, and has impeccably built interiors. It also comes with standard AWD as well. However, the RS 5 feels a bit less classy when you make it stand next to an F-Type and feels slightly out of place, in terms of sports coupes.

    Final Verdict

The 2022 Jaguar F-Type finally gets rid of the chink in its armor with the puny V6 or inline-4 motors no longer in the fray. With the $8,900 price increase from last year's model, the F-Type feature and engine updates make it a drool-worthy proposition. And to top up this cake, Jaguar also offers superior warranty coverage on the F-Type as well, hence offering complete peace of mind to its owners and which is why the F-Type is now one of the best sports coupes to buy in the market right now.
