Overview

The new Audi TT RS Coupe will be a carry-over model of the current generation Audi TT RS Coupe. The TT RS Coupe is a higher performance model of Audi’s style statement TT Coupe series. The Audi TT Coupe series has always been more popular because of its styling than the performance and when you get the RS Coupe, it becomes a more sensible all-around package. The Audi TT series got some significant changes in terms of the standard features list with the 2021 model year and the 2022 model will remain mostly the same.

Buying Advice

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe already comes well equipped with a standard features list. It gets everything that you need as standard. Since it comes in a single trim level, there should not be much confusion in that regard. The only optional package that we recommend going for is the optional wheels package. You can customize your TT RS Coupe based on your preference.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe is expected to start at an MSRP of $73,000 and comes in a single well-equipped trim. If you are looking for a Coupe that turns your eyes when you get out on the road and performs like a proper sports car, then the 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe is a sensible choice in the segment. The 2022 TT RS Coupe competes against the likes of the 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman, Chevrolet Corvette 1LT Stingray Coupe, and the BMW M2 Competition.

Features

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe comes in a pretty well-equipped single trim level option and starts at an expected MSRP of $73,000. The Audi TT series received updates in terms of the standard features list with the 2021 model year. It added some standard features to the Audi TT series making it a better overall package.

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe gets a good list of standard features as there are no major changes as such in the trim levels. The standard features with the 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe include a 2.5 Liter Turbo I-5 engine, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, Dual-zone automatic climate control, 12.3-inch driver display, and infotainment, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and Wireless charging pad.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

The standard Audi TT Coupe was a benchmark for the segment in terms of fuel economy considering it is a sports car. Since the 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe is a sportier version of the same with a significant boost in terms of performance, we do not expect great fuel efficiency. But the 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe surprises everyone with its impressive fuel economy for a sports car with such an impressive performance. The Audi TT RS Coupe delivers 20 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and an impressive 24 mpg of combined fuel economy. It comes with a 14.5-gallon fuel tank capacity which allows it to deliver a highway range of over 420 miles on a full tank.

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe comes with the most fuel-efficient engine in the segment. Especially, when it comes to highway efficiency, the 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe is way ahead of the other rivals. Another car from the VW family, the 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman Coupe takes the second spot in terms of fuel economy in the segment. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette 1LT Stingray Coupe comes with the least fuel-efficient engine in the competition but offers the largest fuel tank, which allows it to offer the best highway range in the segment.

Interior
8.0/10

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe comes with a luxurious cabin and kudos to the engineers at Audi for designing such a beautiful cabin. It is one of the cabins where it becomes tough to find any flaw. German automakers are known for luxury inside their cabins and the Audi badge means you will not miss in that regard at all. The front row is spacious enough to accommodate the driver and the co-passenger comfortably in the seats. The seats provide you with good support and they hold you in place while cornering.

The driver gets good visibility of the road ahead and the sporty driving position makes the experience even more enjoyable. The controls for the driver are well thought of and fall within the reach of the driver. The only downside of the Audi TT RS Coupe’s cabin is its practicality. It lacks in the storage department inside the cabin and the rear seats are also very cramped. The rear seats are not a comfortable place for adults and remain the best for small kids.

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe offers good space in the front row for the driver and the co-passenger. The cargo area is the smallest in the comparison but the margin is not that much. The 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman Coupe has not revealed the interior specs of the car but comes with the largest cargo area in the segment. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette 1LT Stingray Coupe comes with the most spacious front row in the segment but has no second row. The 2021 BMW M2 Competition offers a good balance in terms of cabin space. Standout interior features in the 2022 Audi TT RS are:

  • Heated 8-way power-adjustable front seats
  • 50-50 folding rear seats
  • Manual Tilt/Telescoping Steering Wheel
  • Remote Keyless Entry and Push Button Start
  • Automatic Air Conditioning
  • Air Filtration

How intuitive is the 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe’s infotainment unit?

The infotainment is one of the major highlights of the 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe. It features a 12.3-inch Audi’s virtual cockpit touchscreen which is a multi-functional screen. The same screen also acts as the infotainment screen for the Audi TT RS Coupe. The user interface of Audi’s infotainment has been known to offer one of the best experiences of any infotainment unit in the automotive industry.

The screen feels super-smooth in daily operations and is bright enough to be clearly visible even in direct sunlight. It gets all the latest features to keep you entertained inside the cabin. However, you won’t be looking into the screen while driving an RS series coupe from Audi’s lineup.

The connectivity options for the infotainment system of the 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe include Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and Audi Smartphone integration. It does not skimp on the necessities in 2021 and offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless connectivity of your smartphone with the infotainment. Standout infotainment features include:

  • 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit touchscreen system
  • Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity
  • Audi Smartphone integration
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 12-speakers Bang & Olufsen Sound System

Exterior
7.5/10

The exterior design is one of the key reasons why most people consider the Audi TT RS Coupe. The Audi TT series is based on the Volkswagen Golf platform and looks spectacular from the outside. The design language of the Audi TT RS Coupe doesn’t feel overdone and is rather very subtle. The front resembles the flagship R8 supercar to a certain level. The signature headlights look sleek and attractive. The design seems to be an evolution of the original Audi TT Coupe since its launch.

The side and the rear continue the subtleness in their design. The Audi TT RS Coupe is a relatively small car which makes maneuvering it easier. The quad exhaust gives a sporty look to the rear. The twenty-year-old design of the Audi TT series does not look outdated and still attracts many buyers with its simple design.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette 1LT Stingray Coupe is the longest car and also has the longest wheelbase. The 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman Coupe has the shortest wheelbase which is quite visible in its interior space. The 2021 BMW M2 Competition manages good space between the wheels. Standout exterior features are:

  • LED projector headlights
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Rain-sensing wiper
  • Black Grille
  • Power Spoiler
  • LED brake lights

Safety
8.0/10

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). That is why we can not comment on the safety scores of the car. Still, you do not need to worry about the safety of the car when you drive an Audi. Audi always takes care of the safety of their passengers very seriously. Audi TT RS Coupe gets all the basic safety features that you expect in the segment. The available driver assistance features are not up there with some of the other rivals. Safety features include are:

  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Driveline Traction Control
  • Audi side assist Blind Spot
  • Audi parking system plus
  • Low Tire Pressure Warning
  • Back-Up Camera

2022 Audi TT RS Coupe vs. 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman Coupe

The 2022 Audi TT RS Coupe and the Porsche 718 Cayman Coupe belong to the same family. The Audi TT RS Coupe is ahead of the Cayman in terms of outright acceleration and also gets an extra row of seating.

However, the rear seats are not that practical so it is not such a big advantage. The handling of the Porsche 718 Cayman makes it a better choice against the Audi TT RS. Both the cars have their own advantages and the decision depends on your personal preference.

2022 Audi TT RS Coupe vs. 2022 Chevrolet Corvette 1LT Stingray Coupe

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette 1LT Stingray Coupe is one of the best performers in the segment. The Chevy is way ahead of the Audi TT RS in the performance department and the handling of the Chevy is also impeccable.

The exterior design is subjective but the Chevy Corvette Stingray looks stellar as a sports car from the outside. The Audi TT RS makes a better car in terms of luxury and interior design which feels more upscale.

2022 Audi TT RS Coupe vs. 2021 BMW M2 Competition

The 2021 BMW M2 Competition is the most affordable coupe in the competition and also offers a more practical package.

The Bimmer offers a good choice for those who are looking for a stylish car that drives like a sports car on a budget. The Audi is better than the Bimmer in terms of performance. The interior quality of the Audi TT RS Coupe also feels more premium.

Final Verdict

The new Audi TT RS Coupe remains a great choice for the segment even twenty years after the introduction of its original design. The subtle changes to the car over the years have kept it well against its rivals in the segment. The premium interior materials and sporty handling make it a joy in the everyday drive. If you are looking for a sports car that looks attractive and performs well in everyday driving, then the Audi TT RS Coupe deserves to be on your list.
