Overview

The 2022 Lexus RC F coupe is among one of the best-looking sports coupes out there and, while it never did good in terms of numbers, the limited chunk of people who bought the RC F have never complained about a thing. It is more like a high school crush than a car. You know that it has got some attitude and there will be some issues with it but you still want to hang out with her. That's the same case with the Lexus.

Buying Advice

There is only one trim on offer and you don't have much choice here. However, we recommend you opt for the carbon fiber package for a much more enhanced driving experience.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 RC F is achingly gorgeous, has a melodious V8 and quite a luxurious cabin as well. But on the contrary that engine is quite thirsty and it also doesn’t feel as premium as the Germans. But while all of this is going around, we still love the RC F. 2022 Lexus RC F will rival the likes of BMW M4 Coupe, Audi RS 5 Coupe and Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe.

Features
7.0/10

The 2022 RC F is only available in one trim and that comes with a monstrous 5.0L V8 engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels only, with the prices yet to be unveiled. We are expecting the car to be priced similarly to the 2021 model which right now retails at $65,775. Further, the feature list is also expected to be carried forward from the 2021 model.

Feature-wise the car comes equipped with 19-inch dark chrome BBR wheels, a 10.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Alexa; race-inspired cockpit, leather upholstery, a 10-speaker audio system and Automatic LED headlights with LED DRLs. Additionally, you can opt for a carbon package that gets a carbon-fiber roof, carbon fiber front splitter, carbon fiber rear diffuser and a carbon fiber decklid spoiler.

Release Date

Just like its price, Lexus has not yet taken the wraps of the release date of the 2022 Lexus RC F Coupe, leaving enthusiasts in anticipation for a longer period of time.

Fuel Economy
6.5/10

Big NA V8s are not exactly what one would call fuel-efficient and we don’t even think that someone buying a 2022 RC F will be really concerned about how fuel-efficient it is. But for the sake of numbers, the car is supposed to deliver 16 MPG in the cities, 24 MPG on the highways and 19 MPG combined according to the EPA. With a full 17.4-gallon fuel tank, one can expect more than 300 miles of driving range which is not a lot but considering it’s a V8-powered sports coupe, these are some good numbers.

Surprisingly this time around it's not the BMW that is the most fuel-efficient here and, even more surprisingly, it seems like Mercedes has got their hands on whatever witchcraft BMW folks were using and now they are the most efficient ones here averaging 21 MPG. Both Lexus and Merc come fitted with large fuel tanks at 17.4 gallons which push their driving range well over 400 miles easily. The Audi RS5 is better than most of its competitors, however, its less voluminous fuel tank creates a bearing on its performance.

Interior
7.0/10

The 2022 RC F will have the interior styling as the 2021 MY and it is quite a decently put-together cabin layout. There is not a lot of clutter and you’ll get all you need in the right places without the need of digging around much. The quality of materials used is quite good. The lower part of the dashboard does have some scratchy hard plastic bits which are quite expected at this price point. Just like every other sports car out there, the Lexus also claims to have a 2+2 cabin. The back seats are best for carrying luggage as they are just not suitable even for kids.

The front seats though are surprisingly spacious and quite practical as well. You do get a feeling of sitting quite low to the ground and that is basically the whole idea of being into a low-slung sports car. These are sports bucket seats so they are contoured in a way to give you utmost comfort. They of course are power-adjustable and even get lumbar support. The rear seats are not a place even where kids would like to sit. Also because the trunk itself is quite small, it is a good idea to use those two extra seats for some additional storage space.

* 2021 MY data used for reference

The 2022 Lexus RC F has pretty much the least spacious cabin here and while all others can really seat four people, the RC F is a strict two-seater. Also, the RC F comes with the smallest boot here at 10.1 cu ft and on the complete opposite spectrum is the BMW M4 which is the most spacious car here and also has the biggest boot of 15.5 cu.-ft. The Mercedes-AMG and Audi RS5 Coupe also have ample space on the inside and even the rear seats are practical and usable.

The RC F’s interior is beautiful and some standout interior features are:

  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Power-adjustable seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Simulated leather upholstery
  • Optional power-adjustable steering wheel
  • Optional heated steering wheel
  • Optional ventilated front seats

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2022 RC F is expected to have a massive 10.3-inch infotainment display which is not a touch screen but instead, you’ll be able to control it via some buttons and a mouse on the central console. The display itself is very bright and crisp and this system comes with optional navigation and its own interface to connect to a mobile phone which means it misses out on wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. One can also use voice commands to control the system and its various functionalities.

The available Enform App Suite pairs with smartphones to provide access to apps like Slacker and iHeartRadio. It also provides fuel prices, stock tickers, and sports scores. One can also view the navigation and some other important statistics via the buttons placed on the steering wheel. For your music needs, you have a 10-speaker Lexus Premium Audio System. That said, some standout infotainment features:

  • 10.3" infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Amazon Alexa
  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Bluetooth
  • 10-speaker Lexus Premium Audio System
  • Optional 17-speaker premium surround-sound system
  • Optional navigation

Exterior
4.0/10

The 2022 Lexus RC F looks smoking hot and that's the least we can say. A car that costs north of $65,000 is supposed to look good as well and we certainly love the way Lexus is designing all of its modern cars. They look athletic, agile, sporty, menacing and quite purposeful as well. The massive spindle grille at the front is now pretty much signature to all the Lexus cars and it looks quite beautiful as well.

The overall silhouette of the RC F is very sporty and focused. We certainly loved how it has evolved in the past few years. The 2022 RC F comes with 19-inch BBS alloys and while they make the ride quite uncomfortable and firm, they look damn too good.

The 2022 RC F has the smallest wheelbase of 107.5 inches here and that pretty much justifies its least spacious cabin. Also, it is a pretty compact car with nearly the least dimension figures. Plus it is quite light on its feet as compared to the RS5 and C63 coupe that weigh around 4,000 lbs.The Lexus has the best-in-class ground clearance from the ground of 5.1 inches. The BMW M4 sports the longest wheelbase of 112.5 inches, despite its shortest length.

Given the striking looks, some standout exterior features are:

  • Heated and powered side mirrors
  • Automatic LED headlights
  • Air diffuser
  • Integrated spoiler
  • Carbon fiber exterior elements
  • Lip spoiler
  • Shark fin antenna
  • 19" alloy wheels

Safety
6.0/10

The IIHS has given the 2021 RC F “Good” rating in all of the crash tests and because the 2022 MY is not going to be a lot different from 2021 MY, we are expecting the same rating to continue for 2022 as well. Further, the car also comes with a lot of active and passive safety features like an Automated emergency braking system, Pedestrian detection, Forward collision warning, Pre-Collision System, Intelligent High Beams, Traction Control system, Stability Control and Airbags. Some of the standout safety features are:

  • Automated emergency braking system
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Forward collision warning
  • Pre-Collision System
  • Intelligent High Beams
  • Traction Control (TRAC) system
  • Stability Control
  • Driveline traction control
  • Stability control

Competition

2022 Lexus RC F coupe vs 2022 BMW M4

The M series cars from BMW are maybe among the most obvious choices for most of us while we look for a performance coupe. Now while the M4 is a brilliant car, the new M4 with that bunny grille instead of kidney grille is not something we really loved. Also, the RC F definitely looks a lot better than the M4. And while the BMW M4 is a bit better in terms of performance, the RC F is certainly not a lot behind. Considering the RC F is quite a lot cheaper than the M4 and comes with a bigger and better sounding engine as well, it is the RC F that has our money.

2022 Lexus RC F coupe vs 2021 Audi RS5 Coupe

Just like it is the case with BMW M4, the new Audi RS5 certainly doesn’t look as special as the older car used to be. The RC F certainly looks a lot better than the Germans and that is one of the reasons why it has our money. But practically as well the RC F is a better value for money proportion than the Audi RS5. The only two things that Audi does better than the Lexus are interior space and fuel efficiency. On pretty much everything else, the RC F has an edge.

2022 Lexus RC F coupe vs 2021 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe

The AMG C63 is pretty much the best-looking German here and also the only proper coupe after the Lexus. Also, it is the only competitor car here to have a V8 under the hood. While it does not have a good-sounding V8 as the naturally aspirated ones from Lexus, they are still pretty sweet. Honestly, it is quite a tough choice between the C63 and the Lexus. For us, it is certainly the C63 AMG that has our heart and soul.

Final Verdict
6.2/10

There is no denying the fact that if you go ahead and buy the 2022 Lexus RC F, you’ll have some of the best times of your life driving this baby around. It is just a very gorgeous, well-built, insanely powerful and quite a lot beautiful-to-drive car. It is something you are never going to regret as the Lexus RC F is a car that will always make you smile. Further, the reliability of being a Toyota sub-brand is also with you so peace of mind is guaranteed.
