Overview

The 2023 F-type comes equipped with a thunderous engine, a stunning exterior designed by Sir Ian Callum himself, and a tonne of driving character, which is everything you'd expect from a Jaguar compact coupe. It used to be offered with a turbo-four or a supercharged V-6, but currently, there is only a supercharged V-8 with a choice of 444 or 575 horsepower configurations. The Lexus RC F, the Porsche 718 Cayman, and the Chevrolet Corvette are the major rivals that the F-type competes with but they feel more agile than the hefty, heavy Jag. Additionally, the inside is beginning to look old and provides little room for guests or cargo. However, you'll be delighted to be seen in this stunning piece of automotive sculpture, be it whether you opt for the coupe or the convertible.

Buying Advice

More numbers don’t always mean the vehicle is the best pick and hence, we stick to the base P450 as the RWD system gives the car a very raw character and 444 horsepower is ample enough to make the drive very fun.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Since such vehicles are focused on performance, buyers looking to have the most fun out of the coupe should choose the Jaguar F-Type R, which carries the same engine as the regular F-Type but is tuned to produce more power. If the budget does not allow for the maxed-out variant, users can stick to the base variant or the Jaguar F-Type AWD variant called the P450 R-Dynamic. The starting price for the 2023 model will be $74,675 and the R Coupe will sell for $109,775.

Features
7.0/10

Buyers are given a choice of three variants of this coupe and the line-up begins with the base P450 which sells for $74,675. There is also a Jaguar F-Type AWD variant called the P450 R-Dynamic and buyers can access this model for $85,175. Those looking for the absolute best in terms of design as well as performance can pick the F-Type R which has a sticker price of $109,775. Jaguar hasn’t been shy in terms of loading this car with features right from the base variant and users will get to see the F-Type carrying leather and simulated suede-wrapped seats, a digital instrument panel, power-adjustable sport seats, 10-inch touchscreen, and much more. Those looking to have a rush of wind or get their wigs blown off their heads can pick the convertible version which Jaguar offers that comes with a soft-top and looks equally stunning. Buyers who wish their F-Type came with additional tech and features can further load their cars by choosing options such as the climate pack, blind-spot assist pack, or individually add heated and ventilated seats with 12-way adjustability. Music junkies need not shed tears as Jaguar has them covered by offering a premium Meridian surround-sound system that can be included for an additional cost.

We Recommend

More numbers don’t always mean the vehicle is the best pick and hence, we stick to the base P450 as the RWD system gives the car a very raw character and 444 horsepower is ample enough to make the drive very fun.

Release Date

Despite not having a clear date on when the 2023 F-Type would hit the dealers, reports suggest the vehicle would go on sale at the end of 2022 or early 2023.

Fuel Economy
6.2/10

The official figures for the 2023 F-Type have not yet been disclosed yet, but we do not anticipate a change from the 2022 model's numbers. This implies that all-wheel-drive P450 and R variants are rated at 18 mpg combined, while rear-wheel-drive P450 will continue to offer 19 mpg combined. The 18.5-gallon gas tank helps the sports coupe carry enough fuel to tour more distance than its rivals before running out of juice.

Both the Chevy and the Jag are capable of carrying the exact same amount of fuel and surprisingly have the same expected range in combined conditions. However, the Porsche has the best individual gas ranges, making the car that saves a lot of money and resources but falls in terms of overall range due to its smaller gas tank.

Interior
6.2/10

The driver-focused cockpit of the 2023 F-type is made of an interesting combination of materials, like stitching, faux-suede accents, and chrome trim. Additionally, there are many options for finer headliners, center-console trims, and additional gloss-black components. Upgraded 12-way power performance seats with various leather or suede upholstery choices are available over the six-way power sport seats that come standard. Both the coupe and the convertible have a small interior for the driver and passenger, and the trunk is absurdly tiny. Sports seats are standard on the F-Type R, and despite their lack of padding, they provide adequate adjustability and decent support for your back, thighs, and lower back. There is adequate lateral support, which is helpful for driving aggressively but not to the point where the seats feel constrictive. The effective seat ventilation system prevents the thin seats from feeling soggy in warm weather.

The Lexus is the only car that comes in a 4-seat configuration, making it the more practical sports car, but if a 2-seater is what you’re looking for, the Corvette would feel a bit roomy when compared to the F-Type even though both these cars offer the same legroom. Things change in terms of the cargo space as Porsche takes the lead with the Jaguar closely following. The Chevrolet offers a total of 12.6 cu-ft of cargo space that’s made up by combining the rear and front storage spaces similar to that of the Porsche. The Lexus falls back with the smallest trunk but none of these cars will be able to accommodate more than a couple of pieces of baggage with the space they offer.

Some standout interior features on the 2023 Jaguar F-Type include

  • Paddle shifter
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Automatic climate control
  • 12-way power adjustable seats with memory function
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Leather and faux suede upholstery

How intuitive is the 2023 Jaguar F-Type infotainment system?

The infotainment system in the F-Type is a significant advancement over previous versions, although it still needs some improvements. The 10-inch touch screen features tactile buttons for the primary audio and climate settings, beautiful digital gauges to go along with it, and fairly intuitive menus. Overall, using the system while driving is not too difficult. The touchscreen's slow input response is the only key problem with the system. The audiophiles get to use a 10-speaker audio unit which can be upgraded to a 12-speaker setup on the higher trim. The system supports both Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto by default and comes with additional connectivity features like Bluetooth and USB port.

Some of the standout infotainment features on the 2023 Jaguar F-Type are

  • 10/12-speaker audio system
  • 10-inch touchscreen
  • 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Bluetooth and USB port
  • Satellite radio

Exterior
6.2/10

The F-Type embodies the curves and flows from its granddaddy, the E-Type. The modern interpretation has worked very well and makes the F-Type one of the best-looking sports coupes out there. The hood on the F-Type features two functional air intakes and the only visible change this car received over the years since its introduction is redesigned headlights that hold sharp DRLs and LED projectors. The R-Dynamic gets black exterior trims with metal tread plates while the more committed R trim gets sharped bumpers and a rear diffuser with red brake calipers that clearly differentiates it from the other variants. All the F-Type rides on 20-inch alloys that come in different trim-specific designs.

Both Lexus and Chevrolet are the longest cars here and they also carry a rather high ground clearance for the class, making it less of a worry when driving over a bump. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said regarding the F-type as the car stay very low to the ground.

Some of the standout exterior features include

  • LED headlights and taillights
  • Quad exhaust tips
  • Power folding exterior mirrors
  • LED DRLs
  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Puddle lamps

Safety

The F-Type gest driver assistance features as standard except for the blind-spot monitor, which can be picked up separately. Neither the NHTSA nor IIHS reports are available for this car as it is usual for performance vehicles to not be sent for external crash tests in order to save money. The car despite being light due to its aluminum construction is very strong and rigid like any other vehicle made using a regular metal body.

Some of the standout safety features available with the 2023 Jaguar F-Type are

  • Emergency braking assist
  • Blind-spot monitor
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Forward collision warning
  • Hands-free parallel park assist
  • Lane keep assist

Competition

2023 Jaguar F-Type vs 2023 Lexus RC F

The Lexus RC F is a much more affordable and complete sports coupe compared to the Jaguar F-Type. This car comes standard with a larger set of features and safety aids while it takes a leap ahead even in terms of performance. The major issue with the Lexus is its tiny storage unit but the cramped rear seats would mostly be used to store luggage than to accommodate passengers. However, the Jaguar looks and sounds way too good in comparison and is the car that most likely would turn heads in public.

2023 Jaguar F-Type vs 2023 Porsche 718 Cayman

If you’re all about achieving the top speeds, the Jaguar definitely is the car to go for but the Porsche is the most affordable car here and feels like a very fun car to drive with track-worthy handling. The German manufacturer has kept the car very light, making it nimble and easy to tackle hard corners when compared to the Jag.

2023 Jaguar F-Type vs 2023 Chevrolet Corvette

The Corvette undoubtedly is the best value for money deal and has acceleration that is on part with certain hypercars. The Chevrolet Corvette despite packing a lot of power and performance is also easy to drive with great feedback from the steering wheel and suspensions. The Jaguar sits way too low to the ground, restricting the routes it can commute on unlike the Corvette, which comes with ample ground clearance, making it practical.

Final Verdict

The Jaguar F-Type boasts a timeless design and will hold its reputation as one of the best-looking and sounding vehicles to ever be made. This sports coupe definitely carries all the figures and equipment to put a smile on the occupant’s faces but the tech does feel dated when compared to the market standards and what the rivals carry. The Jaguar is also more expensive than its rivals and isn’t as engaging in comparison. The Jaguar feels more like a car that would feel happier on twisty country roads than on a race track. The car sure does hold a very unique character but if you’re looking for a track-oriented drive, the Jaguar isn’t the best bet.
