Overview

With its gorgeous looks and a head-turning design, the 2021 Jaguar F-Type has earned itself a well-deserved poster-car tag. Available in only two trim options, its price tag starts from $61,600 for the base trim and goes all the way up to $73,100 for the top-spec trim. For that much money, it offers a sonorous sounding four-cylinder engine with razor-sharp handling to enjoy the twisties at high speeds. The 2021 model year has not undergone any major changes but gets many subtle updates like the new refreshed styling.

Buying Advice

With the standard Jaguar F-Type being powered by the same 2.0L Turbocharged Inline-4 engine regardless of the trim, the base trim offers the most value here. It gets all the essential modern-day features like the 10-inch infotainment touchscreen and the 12.3-inch gauge cluster. Along with all that, if anything is missing that you might want, the optional list of features comes to the rescue.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Jaguar has also discontinued the SVR trim for the 2021 model, but the 296 hp 4‑cylinder continues to be the entry-level engine. Other powertrain options include a 380-hp supercharged V-6 engine and a 575 hp supercharged V8 engine that also feature an Active Sports Exhaust system. As no major overhaul has been done, the interior still feels a bit claustrophobic, and the car gets the same finicky touchscreen unit. This Jag goes up against its potential rivals such as the Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupe, Lexus RC 350 F Sport, and the Porsche 718 Cayman.

Features

The 2021 Jaguar F-Type is available in a total of 2 trims: P300 and First Edition. The base P300 trim is priced at $61,600, and it now features the new 12.3-inch fully-digital gauge cluster. It is powered by the 296-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine which only comes with the rear-wheel-drive setup. As standard, the base trim offers leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats, a 10-inch touch screen, navigation, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, and much more. The First Edition P300 trim costs about $73,100 and adds features like aluminum interior accents, 20-inch wheels, ventilated seats, and a 12-speaker stereo. As standard, it is also powered by the same 296-horsepower turbocharged engine.

Along with two trim options, Jaguar also offers many additional packages. The Black Exterior package costs about $1,100 and adds gloss black exterior accents. The Black Interior package costs just $310 and adds gloss black interior accents. Other optional features include a Switchable active exhaust that starts at $225 and the Configurable Dynamics that starts at $564 and can adjust the throttle, transmission, steering, and suspension according to your needs.

Which trim should you buy?

With the standard F-Type being powered by the same 2.0L Turbocharged Inline-4 engine regardless of the trim, the base trim offers the most value here. It gets all the essential modern-day features like the 10-inch infotainment touchscreen and the 12.3-inch gauge cluster. Along with all that, if anything is missing that you might want, the optional list of features comes to the rescue.

Fuel Economy
7.5/10

The Jaguar F-Type only offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit with the standard F-Type. While it is not as capable or powerful as its V6 and V8 powered cousins, it sure is efficient. It manages to offer 23 MPG in the city, 30 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined. It is the most fuel-efficient sports car you can get in its segment. Thus, it is more pocket-friendly than all its rivals and redeems some points that it loses out to them in terms of performance.

However, Jaguar is rumored to discontinue the four-cylinder unit with its next iteration. With a fuel tank capacity of 16.6 liters, it offers the best in class range as well. It is followed by the Porsche 718 Cayman that extracts another benefit from its lightweight construction. The Lexus RC 350 F Sport remains the least efficient car you can buy in comparison to all its rivals.

Interior
7.5/10

Jaguar has added a few bits to the interior of the 2021 F-Type as well. The biggest addition is the 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster that now makes the cabin much more appealing. Rest remains the same inside the cabin, which means there is still a lack of real estate to stretch out. The dashboard is quite driver-centric and features aluminum accents to enhance the sporty appeal. Most touch-points are covered with faux-suede leather and chrome elements that add to the premium touch.

The sport-bucket seats offer excellent overall support and hold you well while taking on sharp corners. The frontward visibility is good, but the rearward visibility is hindered by the sloping roofline and a small rear window. Overall, the cabin exudes a premium feel and offers a healthy amount of storage space. However, the space on the inside still feels a bit cramped, especially when compared to its rivals.

The looks of the Jaguar F-Type certainly make it to the list of its pros. No matter which angle you look at it from, the drop-dead gorgeous looks of the F-Type are sure to attract many eyeballs. The sleek headlights at the front with a low-slung front grille give it quite an aggressive look. The chrome surround around the big air intakes also helps in enhancing the bold appeal of the car. The side profile is well-proportioned with smooth surfaces and retractable door handles. At the rear, the quad-exhaust and sharp tail-lamps make sure that you do not mistake it for any other car.

As expected, the Jaguar F-Type and the Porsche 718 Cayman are the smallest cars here in terms of physical dimensions. If you want the best road presence, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupe and the Lexus RC 350 F Sport would be the better picks. The F-Type is the widest car here which helps in leaving a bold footprint. When comparing the ground clearance, Mercedes offers the least while Lexus offers the most, measuring 3.5 and 5.3 inches, respectively. Standout exterior features include:

  • 18” alloy wheels
  • Light Tinted Glass
  • Fixed rear window w/ defroster
  • Speed sensitive rain detecting variable intermittent wipers
  • Trunk rear cargo access
  • Perimeter/approach lights
  • Power Spoiler
  • LED Brakelights
  • Cornering Lights

Safety
8.1/10

Being a luxury sports car, the 2021 Jaguar F-Type has neither been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, it gets oodles of safety tech to protect its occupants in case of a crash. There are many passive safety features as well such as the forward collision warning and automated emergency braking. Features such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are still optional. Key safety features include:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Forward automatic emergency braking
  • Rearview camera
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Reverse automatic emergency braking
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Adaptive headlights

Competition
9.0/10

2021 Jaguar F-Type vs 2021 Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupe

The 2021 Jaguar F-Type is not a match for the 2021 Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupe’s cabin. It is much more spacious as well as luxurious than the one that the Jag has on offer. The AMG C 43 also offers more features as well as a much more powerful twin-turbo powertrain. It is also cheaper than the F-Type. However, when it comes to looks and fuel efficiency, the F-Type is certainly in a league of its own.

2021 Jaguar F-Type vs 2021 Lexus RC 350 F Sport

The 2021 Lexus RC 350 F Sport offers a spacious cabin along with a comfortable ride. It also gets a better predictability rating along with racy styling. It also costs much cheaper than the F-Type. However, it lags behind the F-Type in terms of performance and the exclusivity factor. It also is not as efficient as the Jag and certainly needs more updates to compete with the best in its class. The F-Type is just a more refined product out of the two.

2021 Jaguar F-Type vs 2021 Porsche 718 Cayman

The 2021 Porsche 718 Cayman is hands down the best performing car in this comparison. Its powerful engine mated to a slick-shifting gearbox makes it a much more fun-to-drive car. Both cars come with sharp handling characteristics, but the Porsche is more dexterous out of the two. The Porsche 718 Cayman does not feel as cramped on the inside as the F-Type. The Jag, on the other hand, costs less and offers better fuel efficiency.

Final Verdict
8.5/10

The 2021 Jaguar F-Type is the most gorgeous car you can get for the price. With its refreshed styling and more standard features, it now feels much more cutting-edge than its predecessor. It is also a joy to drive on winding sections, thanks to the responsive steering wheel and sports-tuned suspension. However, the 4-cylinder mill fails to match the performance of its rivals. Also, the snug seating can make many feel a bit claustrophobic on the inside.
