Overview

Having a long-lasting legacy in the sports car division, thePorsche 911 Carrera is an iconic car and an entry-level model in the 911 lineup. Being the base version, the pricing starts at $102,550, which is expensive, but considering the fact that it is aPorsche, it is still reasonable. It is practical and fast at the same time. It balances the best of both worlds. Not every supercar has this attribute. When a car enthusiast buys the first supercar, there are high chances that it could be a Porsche. It sums up how well the car is built. For 2022, the Porsche 911 Carrera sees Porsche's latest infotainment system software, which also includes Android Auto. Apart from that, it remains unchanged from the previous year.

Buying Advice

Since there are only two trims on offer, the trim that makes the most sense is the Carrera 4 trim which offers a standard all-wheel-drive system and costs you around $5,000 which doesn’t seem so expensive when it comes to buying a Porsche. Porsche also offers additional packages such as the Sport Chrono package and Premium package. Some of the features you get in the Sport Chrono package are a Dash-mounted analog and digital chronograph, Steering wheel-mounted drive mode dial, Launch control, Active suspension mounts, Tire temperature display, and Porsche Track Precision App. On the Premium package, you get features like Adaptive headlights, Bose audio system, Surround-view camera system, Blind-spot monitor, Ambient interior lighting, and Ventilated front seats.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

On the upside, the Porsche 911 is an adept all-weather supercar and offers one of the best all-drive systems ever fitted to a car. Talking about the transmission, the Porsche PDK dual-clutch transmission is another best thing to talk about in the 911. It delivers smooth and seamless shifts in the blink of an eye. Coming to the looks, it still hangs on to traditional round headlights and the signature design cues. It also gets new sleek and long taillights that look arresting. Moving on to the interior, everything is simple yet magnificent inside the cabin, and the selection of materials is on point. Moreover, it rivals the likes of other praiseworthy cars like the Nissan GT-R, Jaguar F-Type, and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

Features

Since the 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera is a performance exotic car, it is available in two trim levels distinguished from each other by the drivetrain options and plenty of other optional packages. The standard equipment list is very extensive and includes plenty of creature comforts like dual-zone climate control, Adaptive suspension, a 10.5 touchscreen infotainment system with premium audio, seat heating, navigation, and a lot more. As the name suggests, the Carrera 4 trim offers four-wheel drive as standard and is expected to have a price tag of around $107,000, whereas the base trim costs around $102,550. Speaking of optional extras, you can have Custom paint colors, Sunroof, Sport exhaust system, a larger fuel tank, Carbon-ceramic brakes, and so on.

2022 Porsche 911 Carrera Release date:

The 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera is expected to be released in the US market by Fall 2021.

Fuel Economy
6.8/10

Sports cars have no regard for fuel economy. That's why sports car brands equip them with massive fuel tanks. However, the Porsche is quite contrasting in terms of fuel efficiency as it offers the highest fuel economy. The Flat 6 engine on the Porsche 911 Carrera offers 18 MPG in the city, 24 MPG on the highway, and a combined 20 MPG. Being a sports car, this kind of economy is surprising indeed. The paramount factor behind the stellar economy is its lightweight structure. A 17.8-gallon fuel tank allows it to have a range of 316.8 miles in the city, 422.4 miles on the highway, and 352 miles of combined range, which is also the highest in the segment despite having the least voluminous tank.

The Nissan GT-R with all the weight offers a greater fuel economy than the Chevrolet Corvette, thanks to the forced-induction engine in the GT-R. On the other hand, the Jaguar F-Type and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray have the same sized fuel tank, but the fuel figures of the Jaguar remain unspecified. The Porsche 911 Carrera sure has the best MPG figures but also the smaller fuel tank, but that doesn’t stop the 911 from offering the highest range in the segment.

Interior
6.8/10

Although a sports car is at its finest when it comes to technology and performance, it is the interior where you spend all your time, and the Porsche has also nailed it with the interior. Everything inside the interior is basically the same as the last year except for the new larger touchscreen and digital instrument cluster. To start with, the design of the dashboard is simple with clean lines but something about it looks elegant and blows your mind with luxury elements everywhere.

The gear shifting knob is very tiny and looks great as well. The Porsche still brings the classic touch to the interior by placing an analog clock on the center of the dashboard. The seats, on the other hand, are very comfortable, and the bottle holder on the center console looks a bit quirky but it is well-appointed and stands out from other rivals. Unlike some other rivals, all the buttons are simple and easy to use. To sum it up, it is the perfect cabin for people who want a minimalistic yet splendid interior.

Among the competition, the Nissan GT-R destroys the others with its good front room, but the best shoulder room is offered in the Jaguar F-Type measuring 56.5 inches. Some cars in the competition have dedicated some of the interior space to cargo volume. Sadly, the Porsche has the smallest cargo space of 4.6 cubic feet. On the other hand, the Corvette Stingray despite being a mid-engined car offers a tremendous cargo volume of 12.6 cubic feet. Some other standout interior features of the Porsche 911 Carrera are as follows:

  • Heated sport seats with power-adjustable backrest
  • Partial leather upholstery
  • Two-zone automatic climate control
  • Optional Sunroof
  • Upgraded leather upholstery
  • Upgraded seats
  • Heated steering wheel

What’s there to keep you entertained?

As far as the infotainment system goes, you get a few updates which include new updated software. There's a center-mounted 10.9-inch infotainment screen that has been placed vertically and powered by Porsche’s new updated interface.

Additionally, you get a navigation system as standard from the base trim. The infotainment is definitely promising and maintains Porsche standards. You also get certain features to keep you connected with Porsche Connect Plus. Some of the standard features include:

  • 4G/LTE telephone module
  • wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto
  • SiriusXM
  • wireless internet access
  • Real-Time Traffic Display
  • 8 loudspeakers

Exterior
6.8/10

The best thing about the 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera is the way it looks; it recently had a complete redesign in 2020. This new design is restrained but yet astonishing. As a matter of fact, it still follows the signature Porsche styling in its design. The traditional circular headlights are integrated with new LED styling. The sleek and vertical taillights get an immense redesign that runs through the whole rear fascia.

Another cool feature on the exterior is the rear brake lights under the rear windshield, which look stunning at night. On the whole, the exterior design has been improved by miles. The rear dual exhaust, on the other hand, enhances the overall look of the car. It gets 19-inch alloy wheels in the front and 20-inch wheels in the rear. It looks absolutely breathtaking with an optional sunroof. You can also have a Sport exhaust system as an option that looks even more striking.

In comparison, there's no competition for the Porsche 911 Carrera in terms of making the lightest sports cars in the whole segment. It weighs only 3,460 lbs, followed by the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, which weighs 3,535 lbs. Moreover, in terms of length, the Nissan GT-R appears to be the longest car in the competition, measuring 185.4 inches. Being the widest and the lowest car, it is evident that the new Corvette offers greater handling than the previous generation Corvettes. Even though the Nissan GT-R is the heaviest and largest car in the segment, its outrageous power gives it an instantaneous acceleration off the line. Some other significant and optional exterior features include:

  • Custom paint colors
  • Larger wheels
  • Adaptive headlights
  • Dual sports exhaust
  • Power-folding mirrors
  • Sunroof (Optional)

Safety
6.0/10

Well, it seems like the Porsche 911 Carrera is lighter than all its rivals, but that doesn’t mean that the Porsche 911 Carerra isn’t safe. Porsche is the most reliable car in its competition. Like every other high-performance car, the Porsche 911 Carrera has not been tested by the NHTSA and IIHS yet. However, what we know for sure is that it comes with some world-class and highly sophisticated features in handy. Some prominent safety features include:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Keep Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Night Vision Assist
  • Porsche WET Mode
  • Surround View
  • Blind-spot monitor
  • Surround-view camera system
  • Automatic distance control
  • Lane change assist with turn assist
  • Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus
  • Porsche Stability Management

Competition
5.0/10

2022 Porsche 911 Carrera vs 2022 Jaguar F-Type:

The Jaguar F-Type is the closest rival to the Porsche in every aspect. Right from the exterior dimensions to the engine performance, both these cars are neck to neck. Moreover, the F-type offers V6 and V8 powertrains on offer. The V8 would be a better option with its rumbling noise that sounds really great.

In terms of looks, the Jag looks like a wildcat on the loose, and speaking of interior quality, the Porsche looks a bit more premium than the Jag. Also, the Jaguar can seat only 2 people, and interior comfort is not as good as the Porsche 911 Carrera. In a nutshell, the Porsche is a better option than the Jaguar. Nevertheless, the Jaguar is considerably cheaper than the Porsche by $20,000. As a performance car, the Porsche clearly takes the win.

2022 Porsche 911 Carrera vs 2022 Nissan GT-R:

The Nissan GT-R is the Japanese rocket made to destroy the Porsche 911, and it clearly humiliates the base version 911, but the Turbo S version is absolutely mind-blowing in terms of performance. In terms of performance, the 2022 Nissan GT-R is expected to crank out around 600 hp, and the new car would definitely come with the infamous launch control which offers brain-melting acceleration.

Both these cars are completely different as GT-R is the direct rival to the extreme 911 Turbo S. But considering the price, both these cars belong to the same ballpark, and we would recommend the Nissan GT-R over the Porsche for people who love sheer performance and brutality in power. However, if you are a true Porsche and you love the refinement and insane handling, the Porsche is a better option.

2022 Porsche 911 Carrera vs 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray:

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been improved drastically both in terms of performance and handling. The mid-engine placement in the new Corvette Stingray makes it a better car, but it takes away the old GT styling of the Corvette. On paper, the Corvette is better than the Porsche in terms of performance, but in reality, we think the Porsche would definitely keep up with the Corvette.

Apart from that, the Porsche is better in every aspect. The Porsche is more economical, whereas the massive 6.2 L V8 in the Corvette doesn’t seem to be economical. Moreover, the Corvette offers seating only for two people. On the plus side, the Corvette is half the price you pay for the Porsche 911 Carrera, but it cannot match the quality, intelligence, and refinement of the Porsche.

Final Verdict

As you can see, the Porsche 911 Carrera is a desirable car from the German automaker. Not only does it look good, but it also drives well and handles better. It is the perfect proposition of pure performance and driveability. Driving the Porsche not just brings a smile to your face, it also keeps you connected to the car. Porsche is always pure emotion, and the new 911 Carrera is no exception. The art of making a sports car is what Porsche does so right, and the new 911 Carrera is hands-down the best sports car you can find in the market at the moment.
