Overview

Unlike the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray with a 6.2-litre LT2, the all-new C8 Z06 version has been finally revealed with a 670 horsepower 5.5-litre V-8 engine and winged wide-body supercar design. This Z06 returns to purity with the flat-plane crank double-overhead-cam (DOHC) V-8, which is also the highest-horsepower naturally aspirated V-8 ever installed. It revs up to 8600 RPM and will take you from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds. Though there's no manual, Chevy sticks to the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. As the 2022 Corvette starts at around $60,900, we expect the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will likely cost around $90,000 when it goes on sale.

Unlike the previous Z06 versions, the engine is now located behind the driver. Also, the new Corvette Z06 is wider than the Stingray and uses bigger air intakes and a wide rear wing. Inside, buyers will be happy with the best amenities and technology borrowed from the Stingray. However, purists will love the sharpened performance, thanks to new aerodynamic elements, lower weight, and upgraded brakes and tires. With production starting in summer 2022, the Z06 will arrive as a 2023 model year. The Corvette Z06 competes against the likes of Mercedes-AMG GT and Jaguar F-Type R Coupe.

Buying Advice

The only trim of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 packs all necessary features one looks for in a sports car at the price point. It is capable to satiate all your needs and in addition, adds zeal and adrenaline to the drive, which makes it an unquestionable choice in the market. With an abundant feature load, the 2022 Corvette Z06 proves itself to be a niche variant that upholds everyday usability within the whims and fancies of its quirky elements. While price is yet to be released, the sports car will be the bang for the buck, always.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

" With 670 horsepower, 1.22G around a skidpad, and an 8,600-rpm redline, it's undeniably impressive. " thedrive.com

The C8.R race car after conquering the Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona, and Detroit, has finally rived to streets in the form of all-new Corvette Z06. With all upgrades including suspension, aerodynamics, and lighter architecture, the biggest change is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in production that will take this supercar from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds. As compared to the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 in the previous Z06, the 670 hp plane crank DOHC V8 in the latest Z06 gets 20 hp more.

There is a lot going on in the exteriors as well to push the limits of this new C8 version. Chevy originally planned to release the Z06 as a late 2022 model, but with the Covid-19 pandemic, it finally comes to life as the 2023 Corvette Z06. With the specs in consideration, this may not be the most powerful Corvette ever, but better than the current C8 Stingray in every way. With the production set to start in 2022, the 2023 Corvette Z06 will be on sale at a price range below the $100,000 mark. This Chevy's mid-engine supercar will compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and Jaguar F-Type R-Coupe

The only trim of the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 packs all necessary features one looks for in a mid-engine supercar at the price point. While price is yet to be released, the sports car will be the bang for the buck, as always.

Features

The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will in all probability be a single-trim offering that will pack all features one expects at the price point starting around $100,000. While it will come equipped with a mid-engine s most of the interior and technology features will be borrowed from the top-range Stingray, the Z06 variant will differentiate itself with its distinctive exterior design cues, its engine option, and an evolved cabin.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was originally slated for release by the last quarter of 2021, however, with delays dues to Covid-19, it is slated as 2023 model. With the official release of the 2023 Corvette Z06, this track-focused Corvette will eon sale early next year. While interested buyers, and even us, would want the Z06 variant to launch as early as possible, as per schedule, the production will start from Summer 2022.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

In the truest sense, the buyers in the segment will not make a buying decision keeping fuel economy into consideration. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06’s efficiency has not yet been rated by the EPA, however, one assumption we can make is that it will not be a pocket-friendly vehicle that saves running costs. With over 600 horses of power silently sitting under its hood, the Z06 will be a guzzler that will make as many trips to the gas station as possible.

The 2022 Jaguar F-Type R-Coupe is the most efficient vehicle in the segment with a combined mileage of 18 MPG of fuel. It manages a range of 296 and 444 miles in the city and on the highway, respectively. However, it features a smaller engine option, as compared to the 2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, that can store 19.8-gallons of fuel.

Interior
8.5/10

"The Bow Tie brand went above and beyond to ensure that the mid-engine Corvette's interior could not be called boring. " - CarAndDriver.com

The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will sport a utilitarian and ergonomic cabin design that serves the best interest of the buyers. The Z06's cabin has the same basic layout as the standard C8 but uses upgraded material to make it even more special. For the $100,000 pricing, the interior is wrapped in leather with suede touchpoints, as well as carbon-fiber trim options are available. Chevy offers three choices of seat design, seven interior colors, and six seatbelt colors to choose from. The enthusiastic experience it provides will also be extended by a centrally placed touchscreen system: an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 being performance-focused will feature similar space as the Corvette C8 Stingray and add a better set of sport seats that are heavily bolstered and provide better support. Like all other high-quality materials, it comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and soft-touch plastics for the dash. The squared-steering wheel of the all-new Corvette Z06 feels good to hold and adds quirkiness into the cabin.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette can seat two passengers only, as is the segment standard. While on the move, the 2022 Corvette Z06 sports refinement is comparable with the 6.2L V8 engine-equipped base coupe variant. External noises are impressively masked and the only evident sound that seeps into the cabin is the growling exhaust note, and well, who would mind that?

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and Jaguar F-Type R-Coupe can seat two passengers. In terms of space that each passenger receives, the AMG GT manages the highest head-, shoulder-, and legroom for the occupants, while the F-Type R-Coupe does fall in second place but is better than the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

What remains common amongst all three vehicles, however, is the use of high-quality materials to ensure top-notch craftsmanship. With low-lying seats in all contemporary vehicles, a sports car-like aura remains intact. However, the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 manages higher cargo capacity at 13 cubic feet, which induces an element of practicality into the car.

Some of the salient features of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 include:

  • Ventilated front seats
  • Leather Upholstery
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Rear windscreen defroster
  • Light tinted windows
  • Sport seats

How intuitive is the infotainment system of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06?

The infotainment system on the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will include an 8-inch touchscreen system that comes equipped with Chevy’s Infotainment Plus 3 system and consequently, it will be user-friendly and responsive with minimal lags in the response timings.

Like the base 2022 Corvette Stingray, it will feature, as standard, Apple CarPlay, BlueTooth Connectivity, and Android Auto. While an 8-inch driver-focused touchscreen will take center stage inside the cabin, a 12-inch display unit is also available as a part of the gauge cluster. Some of the other standout infotainment features include:

  • Speed-Sensitive Volume Control
  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio
  • 10/14-Speaker Bose Premium Sound System (Standard/optional)
  • USB connection
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot
  • Wireless Charging pad
  • Voice Command Compatibility

Exterior
9.0/10

" The whole car has been reworked for greater performance, starting with the exterior." - RoadAndTrack

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 sport a rather aggressive fascia with more aerodynamic elements and larger air vents that allow better drivability at higher speeds. This 2023 C8 Z06 has been reworked for greater performance, starting with the exterior. Dimensionally, the fenders have been widened by 1.18 inches up front and 1.57 inches in the rear. This additional space caters to new forged aluminum wheels measuring 20 by 10 inches up front and 21 by 13 inches in the rear. Stock the Z06 is specced with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S ZP rubber, measuring 275/30ZR20 upfront and 345/25ZR21 in the rear.

The aerodynamically upgraded Z06 gets a front splitter and a modest rear spoiler. This setup increases downforce, but the available carbon-fiber aero package will make the Z06 look like its racecar sibling - C8.R. It adds a larger front splitter, dive planes on the front corners, underbody strakes, and the wide wing. While the curb weight might alter with changes in build quality, the new Corvette Z06 is lighter than the Stingray, thanks to aluminum and carbon fiber construction. the standard Corvette is 182.3 inches long with a wheelbase that measures 107.1 inches. It is 76.1 inches wide and 48.1 inches tall with a ground clearance of 5.4 inches.

In terms of overall dimensions, however, both vehicles are smaller than the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette and the Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar even sport lower ground clearances of 3.8 and 4.2 inches, respectively.

Some of the standout exterior features of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 include:

  • Performance Tires
  • Rear Spoiler
  •  LED Headlights
  • Enlarged fenders
  • Aerodynamic vents
  • New exterior colors

Safety
8.5/10

The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06’s safety suite is not yet known, however, with a number of features being derived from the Chevrolet C8 Stingray, the Z06 might feature a similar set of specifications, which might feel less for a car in its segment. However, it will definitely feature improved brakes for better performance in the deceleration tests.

The 2022 Corvette Z06 has not yet been rated by federal agencies like NHTSA or IIHS. its performance is expected to be appreciable whenever tested. Though we expect Chevrolet to add additional safety features, some of the salient specifications include:

  • Blind-Spot Monitor
  • Cermaic Brembo brakes
  • Occupant Sensing Airbags
  • Side-impact bars
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Traction and Electronic Stability Control

Competition
8.0/10

2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs 2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT

As a successor to the legendary Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the AMG GT had abundant expectations riding on its shoulders and with the introduction of 2021 MY, it seems to be getting only better at its job. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT continues to be one of the most sought-after options in the segment that combine power and performance with an appealing design.

Compare the 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT to the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and you will get a competition, you’d want to closely observe. While the latter has higher performance through its more powerful engine option, the Mercedes-Benz offering provides more space to its competitors on the inside. Amongst the two, its a fine line that causes both vehicles to differ and consequently, the final buying decision will depend on the appetite for features, performance, and the corresponding price tag.

 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs 2022 Jaguar F-Type R-Coupe

The 2021 Jaguar F-Type R-Coupe with its refreshed design gains ground over its competitors, for it now looks bewitching an enchanting. It ascends over the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 by providing a more feature-rich experience at an almost similar price. It also sports higher space on the inside and provides a standard AWD option.

However, in all major performance aspects, the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 maintains a competitive edge. Its engine produces higher power and torque outputs and it also features enhanced ceramic brakes to improve its capabilities. The Chevy Corvette Z06 with its mean design has undeniable road presence and is marginally larger in size. Amongst the two, we would opt for the Corvette Z06 that gives you the real supercar feel at the price point.

Final Verdict

The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 as fate may have, will be launched at a price mark of $100,000 and is set to provide an enlightening experience with its naturally aspirated mid-engine V8 unit. Available for the first time with the Corvette C8, the Z06 will continue to be a nimble and versatile vehicle like its predecessor.

Though a majority of its aspects and feature-list still haven’t been confirmed by Chevrolet, we expect them to represent top-notch craftsmanship and the brand’s idea of catering to every need of the buyer. Our only point of contestation is if Chevy would improve and enhance the number of driver-assistance features with the track-focused Z06. Irrespective, by delivering formidable performance at a price lower than its competitors, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will make for an alluring option.
