Overview

The 2014 Hyundai Genesis is a midsize sedan offered in 2 trims, starting off at a base MSRP of $39,700. For that price, it mainly competes with the Acura TLX, the Infiniti Q50, and the Chevrolet Impala. Between 2 trims, the Genesis sedan offers 2 powertrains. The base engine is a 3.8L V6 capable of making 311 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque. If more power is required, there is also a 429 horsepower-making 5.0L V8 engine. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Genesis reaches 60 mph from zero in 6.4 seconds on its base engine, which gets pumped up to 5.3 seconds with the 5.0L V8 engine. Depending on the powertrain, the Genesis can manage a combined fuel economy between 18 and 22 mpg. While we're on the topic of choices, the 5 striking colors the Genesis comes in really pull you towards itself.

Buying Advice

While both the trims are nicely optioned, you can make a clear-cut decision based on the kind of power you’re looking for in your next sedan. We would recommend going with the base 3.8T unless you want a V8 growling under the hood.
