Overview

The Chrysler 200, one of the latest entrants to the midsize sedan segment, is witnessing a rise in demand in recent times. Coming in as a premium alternative to some mundane and run-of-the-mill options in the segment, the 2014 Chrysler 200 does stand out of the pack. To make things more interesting, Chrysler has thrown in the S package as seen with the bigger 300 for the higher Touring and Limited trims whilst conforming to take off the drop top from the trim line by the end of this year.

For 2014, the Chrysler 200 sedan is made available in three standard trims. The base engine options still continue to be the 2.4L naturally aspirated 4-pot mill whilst leaving an option to equip the powerful, tried, and tested 3.6L Pentastar V6 unit. The power is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic. The base listing price is around $21,795 and at this price, the 2014 Chrysler would be sharing market space between popular sedans like the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, and the Hyundai Sonata.

Buying Advice

Equipped with the right engine, the Chrysler 200 is a fun car to own and drive on a daily basis. However, the low fuel economy number and the unimpressive predicted reliability rating, two traits primal for this class of cars, would come in as a deal breaker for many. Though we love the quirky and unique bodywork of this midsize sedan, the usable cabin space is limited, which does come in as such a bummer given its nice ride quality and noise insulation. Though the Chrysler 200 has been seeing a rising demand with each succeeding year, we are quite not sure if it has what it got to take the prime names in the segment like the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord, both of which boast alternately set benchmarks for this class of sedan.
