Overview

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis is a midsize sedan offered in 4 trims, starting off at a base MSRP of $34,200. For that price, it mainly competes with the Acura TL, the Ford Fusion Sport, and the Dodge Charger R/T. Between 4 trims, the Genesis sedan offers 3 powertrains. The base engine is a 3.8L V6 capable of making 333 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque. If more power is required, there is also a 385 horsepower-making 4.6L V8 engine and a 429 horsepower-making 5.0L V8 engine. All these engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Genesis reaches 60 mph from zero in 6.4 seconds on its base engine, which gets pumped up to 5.3 seconds with the 5.0L V8 engine. Depending on the powertrain, the Genesis can manage a combined fuel economy between 18 and 22 mpg. While we're on the topic of choices, the 7 striking colors the Genesis comes in really pull you towards itself.

Buying Advice

In our opinion, your money deserves the 3.8 trim as it has plenty of power, it’s practical, and it offers a good value for money. Moreover, the Premium and Technology packages are both worth an upgrade considering their feature offerings.
