Overview

The 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid fares well in the midsize sedan segment. Adding $6,055 to the price of the standard gasoline variant, the Sonata hybrid carries a base price of MSRP $25,850 and is offered in a single trim. The engine on service here is a familiar 2.4L inline-4 engine supported by an electric motor powered by a 270V battery pack. Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, it makes 206 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque. The combined fuel economy improves from 28 MPG on the standard gasoline variant to 36 MPG on the hybrid variant, making the increase in sticker price worth it. The performance of the Sonata hybrid remains at par with the gasoline variant, with the car accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds. Hyundai offers the same 6 colors for the Sonata hybrid. The Sonata mainly competes against the Ford Fusion Hybrid, the Kia Optima Hybrid, and the Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Buying Advice

As the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Sedan comes in a single trim level, you get only two optional packages to decide upon. Not to mention, getting the Ultimate package will set you back by $5,500, whereas the Leather package adds some decent conveniences for $1,500, so choose wisely.
