Overview

The GMC Terrain's truck-like exterior can easily capture people's attention because it stands apart from the typical compact crossover, ever since the second generation of Terrain was released in the year 2018 it is regarded as one of the best in terms of internal space and has maintained its quality of continuous manufacturing. It is currently in its second generation and passengers are protected from a majority of shocks providing a comfortable ride, and simple yet user-friendly infotainment.

Buying Advice

We would recommend the SLT trim interior leather upholstery and additional amenities than the standard trim giving it a substantially finer look and justifying the additional $4,000 MSRP over the base trim. If you want extra driver assistance functions, such as adaptive cruise control, think about adding the Pro Safety Plus option.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2023 GMC Terrain doesn’t offer any significant changes from the 2022 GMC Terrain and it will be likely a carryover model following the most recent iterations while it is a part of the second Terrain generation that was introduced in the year 2018. The GMC Terrain 2023 model comes in four different trim levels while the AT4 and Denali trim has been separately written on our website, so we will discuss the SLE and SLT trim. The price range for the 2023 GMC Terrain should be comparable to that of the currently available model which starts at an MSRP of $29,795 to a maximum of $35,395. In this segment, it will always continue to compete against the likes of the Honda CR-V, the Hyundai Tucson, and the Toyota RAV4.

Features
7.5/10

The 2023 GMC is a compact five-passenger SUV that is expected to be a carryover model and continues to carry the current brand structure which is offered in four different trims which are SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali, however, we will discuss only the SLE and SLT trims in this article the rest two trims are written separately on our website. The base GMC Terrain SLE trim starts at an MSRP of $29,795 and it offers a list of potent features and specifications including 17-inch aluminum wheels, heated power side mirrors, daytime running lights, cloth interior, a 7-inch touchscreen system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, automated emergency braking, and a six-speaker stereo as standard.

The release date information regarding the 2023 GMC Terrain hasn’t been known yet officially. Fuel Economy
6.5/10

The EPA estimates the GMC Terrain offers a mileage of 25 MPG in the city, 30 MPG on the highway, and 27 MPG combined with an FWD drivetrain, while the AWD drivetrain offers the same MPG in the city while it offers 28 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined which falls a little short of what other top compact SUVs receive. The 2022 Honda CR-V offers a better mileage of 28 MPG in the city, while the Toyota RAV4 is a better fuel-efficient option giving a mileage of 35 MPG on the highway, and 30 MPG combined. Furthermore, it offers a range of 508 miles on the highway which results in a hassle-free drive experience without worrying about filing it at a gas station. On the other hand, the 2023 GMC Acadia outperforms its adversaries with a much better fuel tank capacity of 14.9 gallons in its class. On comparing all the statistics, we can conclude that the 2022 Toyota RAV 4 is a better fuel-efficient vehicle when compared to its adversaries.

Interior
6.5/10

The latest Terrain has an uncomplicated cabin that draws inspiration from GMC vehicles. The cabin is straightforward to operate thanks to big dials, labels on the controls, and large dials. The gear shifter is one distinctive feature of the Terrain's interior. To change gears, choose the drive or reverse, and put the car in park, it makes use of a variety of push- and pull buttons. The Terrain's shoddy build quality and scratchy plastics prevent the SUV from feeling like an expensive choice.

For a small SUV, the Terrain's luggage space falls short of average. When the back seats are folded down, the space behind the second-row seats expands to 63.3 cu-ft. For further convenience when storing longer goods, the front passenger seat may be folded down. Inside the GMC Terrain, there is seating for five passengers. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and fabric upholstery are included as standard equipment on all versions. Taller people may sit in either row with ease, and the chairs are comfortable for prolonged trips. However, the tilted dash makes it difficult to see forward.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson offers one of the most spacious load capacities among small SUVs. The area behind the back seats is 38.7 cubic feet, and when these seats are folded, it is 74.8 cubic feet and wide cargo space makes it simple to load and unload heavier, bulkier things. Furthermore, the interior has a whole new look and the dashboard forms a broad arc around the driver and front passenger. Second, on the list is the 2022 Honda CR-V offers a 39.2 cu-ft trunk behind the back seats and a 75.8 cu-ft trunk with the back seats folded flat. On the other hand, the 2023 GMC Acadia boasts unmatched interior comfort and space in its class.

Some key interior features include

  • 4-way manual driver seat with a manual recline.
  • Premium cloth seat trim.
  • Single-zone automatic climate control.
  • Urethane steering wheel.
  • Flat-folding front passenger seatback.
  • Keyless Open.

How intuitive is the 2023 GMC Terrain Infotainment system?

Terrain's infotainment system is simple to use and responsive to orders, and it benefits from clear visuals, logical menus, and the newest in-car connection technologies. It is expected to have the same standard specification as the GMC Terrain 2022 including a seven-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth.

Some of its key infotainment features include

  • 4.2-inch diagonal multi-color driver information screen.
  • 7-inch diagonal GMC infotainment system.
  • 12-volt auxiliary cargo area power outlet.
  • SiriusXM 3-month Platinum trial subscription.
  • 4 USB ports with auxiliary input jack.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto capability.

Exterior
6.5/10

GMC changed the Terrain's appearance for 2022 and the GMC Terrain of 2023 should have the same general styling as the SUV that is currently on sale. The SUV's headlights, taillights, and front fascia all underwent revision, and completes the alterations are new wheel designs. The headlights of the current Terrain are C-shaped and are placed next to a huge grille. The SUV has rough body cladding along the side and transparent glass on the C-pillar to give the impression of an extended body. The Terrain has a unified design thanks to its C-shaped taillights and it has a menacing front look that swiftly transitions into a stylish back end with a blacked-out rear pillar that gives the roof the appearance of floating.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 offers the highest ground clearance that measures 8.4 inches which makes it easy to drive on uneven places while it also controls stability when accelerating at high speeds. On the other hand, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson outperforms a much higher wheelbase of 108.5 inches which gives stability while driving at corners and better ride comfort than other adversaries with a shorter wheelbase. While comparing the exterior dimension we can say that the 2022 Hyundai Tucson is a much better option when compared to its rivals.

Safety

GMC offers a suite of driver-assistance systems that are included as standard while others can be added as options. Some of the standard specifications include a forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian recognition, and automatic high-beam assistance. The 2023 GMC has not been rated by the NHTS or IIHS while the 2022 GMC Terrain received the highest rating of Good in five safety crashes while four stars in the rollover test from the NHTSA.

  • Rearvision camera.

Competition

2023 GMC Terrain vs 2022 Honda CR-V

In comparison to the Honda CR-V, the back seat in the GMC Terrain could feel a little bit more cramped. If you don't need to transport much in a single trip, the GMC Terrain's smaller load capacity over the Honda CR-V is acceptable. It is marginally trickier to enter and exit confined spaces in the GMC Terrain than in the Honda CR-V due to its wider turning radius. The more extended standard warranty of the GMC Terrain will give you greater peace of mind which makes it a preferable option to opt from.

2023 GMC Terrain vs 2022 Hyundai Tucson

You'll find it simpler to enter and exit the GMC Terrain in a small parking space because it is a touch narrower than the Hyundai Tucson. The GMC Terrain outperforms the Hyundai Tucson in terms of transferring the power from its engine to its wheels due to its significantly greater torque. Due to the Hyundai Tucson's more generous head and legroom compared to the GMC Terrain, passengers in the backseat will have much more room to spread out.

2023 GMC Terrain vs 2022 Toyota RAV4

The RAV4's engine is stronger and more fuel-efficient than the Terrain's, and it boasts one of the biggest cargo capacities in its class. And to top it off, choosing the Toyota over the GMC will save you money and also offers 1.5 inches of higher ground clearance than that of the Terrain for improved off-road performance.

Final Verdict

The GMC Terrain offers smooth handling and an off-road-oriented trim. Customers will like the GMC's roomy interior and generous offering of standard equipment while its weak base engine, fuel economy, and cargo space are something lacking in its class.
